Personally, I think the MUTOs are really underrated. Think about it: their EMP can knock out any electronic device we have, and we have a _lot_ of electronics. We're a society that's totally dependent on electricity at this point. A creature with abilities like the MUTOs would be catastrophic. Godzilla was an allegory for the threat of nuclear weapons. Likewise, the MUTOs play on our generation's fear of losing all power.
@Scary Specifically, it shuts down his atomic breath. According to the 2014 novelization, part of it involves a bioelectrical spark that ignites his breath; no spark, no atomic breath.
MUTOs may have come into being as a response to an even greater electronic-relying kaiju: Ghidorah. What if the MUTOs existed (or created?) purely as a means to combat against that titan? It would explain why Ghidorah became dormant (or incapacitated) and gradually froze up into a stasis after an encounter with the shock-blocking MUTOs. I could see that Ghidorah may even survive a parasitic impregnation and MUTO-Prime being born from it (just look at how glowy those golden-energized arms and dangly-bits on it are). When the MUTOs completed their objective, well, I suppose all the other kaiju sort of had an anxiety attack (after proto-Godzilla (aka Dagon/Raijin) was taken out, I see that as an "oh, shit" moment for all titans) and all started to "shut down" into their fabled dormancy. A bit off topic: I wouldn't be surprised if Atlantis had created the MUTOs (it would explain why they have an unmistakable cybernetic-kaiju (Gigan?) look) as a similar backstory to the Gyaos (see Gamera: Last Hope for reference) and the Godzilla species were brought up as a means to decommission their out of control "Ghidorah-repelant".
@@rustydragonling Probably not. Godzilla and the MUTOs date back to millions of years ago. Ghidorah only arrived on Earth thousands of years ago, close enough for people to make cave paintings of him.

Like how the Male MUTO was smaller than the Female but could fly, and the Female MUTO was much larger than the Male but had no wings. Such sexual differences are common in many insect species, so it's cool they added that quality to the MUTOS. You normally don't see these kind of things in monster movies, let alone Giant Monster movies. Plus, for one of the more smaller monsters Godzilla has had to face, the MUTO's really did put up a fight with the Big G. At least they were one of his more tougher opponents. And don’t even get me started on MUTO Prime.
Spencer Cade it was powerful enough to overpower an individual Godzilla known as Daigon and killed him by implanting its eggs within his body. It also can emit a hypersonic scream so powerful that it actually shattered Godzilla’s dorsal plates.
Not a fan of Muto Prime. I liked how the Muto were a species of parasites, not predators. They didnt overpower their prey but rather used a clever and lethal reproductive cycle. Prime...is discount giant xenomorph to me
@@JEL625 Well... think about them like wasps. Wasps kill spiders, right? So they're strong enough to overpower spiders; but once they do, they lay their eggs in the spider, and when the eggs hatch they parasitize the spider.
They literally state in the movie that while the radiation might not affect them, the sheer force of the blast would. Or at least that's what they theorized.
I actually really liked the design and concept for the Muto's,, I just think they needed a more interesting texture colour to help distinguish between the male and female and to reflect the insect aspect of their appearance.
It’s really not that hard. Hokmuto is smaller with four legs, wings and two mantis like fore limbs, Femuto is far larger with no wings, six legs, the same mantis like fore limbs, and an egg sac that fucking *glows*
@@dancingcarapace This is more a complaint about the colour pallette of the movie. They're very distinct when compared to each other side by side, but their mostly grey design doesn't help them stand out in a movie where they're usually obscured by dark or dust.
@@PainCausingSamurai that’s actually the point, to make them terrifying since despite their size, they could still have the potential to sneak up on you, which Femuto did to the soldiers trying to move the nuke. A lot of people have complaints of the lighting and shots of the fights, but I recommend watching Cinema Wins’ Everything Great About Godzilla so you can appreciate why for Legendary’s greater world building this works better in the long run.
@@dancingcarapace I'm sure there were legitimate creative reasons for the design they went with, but considering the insect aspect and the mating pair relationship, I feel the MUTO skins could have incorporated more color, patterns, and texture without undermining the general aesthetic of the movie.
@@PainCausingSamuraiyou should of payed attention, because they did add some colour differences. The femuto was much more jet black, but the male muto was jet black but also had a bit more little grey patches. Also,it was a design choice to make them darker to blend in with the dark, gloomy environment of the movie.
I honestly feel like that was Godzilla returning the favor after Ford saved Godzilla. Notice that Godzilla didn't save the other soldiers? Not his concern.
Well, she bowed to Ghidorah, likely recognizing him as an Alpha that couldn't be challenged. When Godzilla demonstrated his superiority over Ghidorah, he by default became the superior Alpha that couldn't be challenged. Though I have a headcanon that MUTO Prime was an Alpha-level Titan like Ghidorah, Godzilla, and Kong. I believe that as long as a Prime is around, the rest of the species will resist the commands of the Alpha and continue their parasitic propagation. So, the MUTOs that appeared in 2014 didn't fall in line because MUTO Prime was still active. Once she was disposed of in the comic interquel, any other MUTOs would've fallen in line along with other Titans and properly followed the current Alpha.
If it wasn't for ORCA, MUTO Prime would've most likely turned to be the Alpha Titan, and one of the few Kaijus who actually got close to killing Godzilla, basically ever. Their extremely powerful and it's sad they aren't talked about more.
"A fierce, if imperfectly documented, battle..." Tastefully understated. I love the Legendary Godzilla, thank you so much for a look into the in-depth the creation process for the Mutos, and for this great series in general!
First thing i have realised aftr watching this video that why the hell Godzilla's fights were in dark!! We missed so many things just because the fight was in darkness. 1.Godzilla's powerful physique 2.his injuries in battle 3.male MUTO's falling arm when the big G slamms him with the tail into a building. 4.female MUTO'S spine and blood after Godzilla beheads her with atomic breath. Also,Godzilla: Aftershock could have been a great movie to fill in the 5 years gap between two Godzilla films. It was good chance to introduce and build up Dr.Emma Russell's character before the events of KtoM as she is an important link for KtoM events.
Honestly I think it was black/ grey for a reason. I think they did this to copy the first debut of godzilla which was in black and grey but instead they did it in a more modern way

I was there for the opening night of this movie… audience went wild for that moment.
The MUTO in King of the Monsters continues Toho's long tradition of having a juvenile of a past movie spawn out of nowhere when in the last movie it was never stablished that the original monster had a child

Do they have thermal vision conformation or is it just a cool look? Like Godzilla’s eyes don’t allways glow blue but the mutos constantly have the red glow look
@@damian5528 Eh, maybe. As said in the video, it's hard to pinpoint exactly where they would fit irl taxonomy, and they're kaiju so it isn't really worth it to think too hard about it. Personally, make what you will of them.
MUTOs are really good new Kaiju! There's a lot of genius in their design that other comments have mentioned (like gender differences and how their abilities resemble our fear of losing power), but most importantly they're just fun to watch. They'd feel right at home in the first three Godzilla eras.
My guess for future original Titans in the MonsterVerse: Charybdis (Titanus Charybdis): A whale kaiju that once had a symbiotic relationship with Scylla. Resembles a hybrid of a blue whale, a killer whale, and a Livyatan melvillei. Poseidon (Titanus Poseidon): A male individual of the same species as the deceased Margygr, he is the alpha of Margygr's species. He was known by the ancients as the King of the Seas and resembles a reptilian merman with piranha-like teeth, an eel's tail, and a roar similar to a conch shell being blown. Fenrir (Titanus Fenrir): A spiky wolf kaiju contained in Norway that can generate lightning as well as sonic howls (resembles Ralph from Rampage). Known by the ancient Japanese as "Raiju" and the Inuits as "Amarok". Sobek (Titanus Sobek): A crocodile kaiju contained in Egypt within the ancient ruins of Crocodilopolis. Also known as "Sebek" or "Suchos". Dakuwaqa (Titanus Dakuwaqa): A massive shark kaiju patrolling the waters of Fiji. Resembling a megalodon or a gigantic great white shark, his body is covered in scars and tribal markings. Known by the ancient Japanese as "Isonade" and the ancient Hawaiians as "Kamohoali'i". Beelzebub (Titanus Beelzebub): A kaiju that resembles a hybrid of a horsefly, a botfly, a cicada, and an Asian giant hornet, it was feared as "the Lord of the Flies" and can weaponize its loud buzzes and communicate with and manipulate flies, mosquitoes, and stinging insects to swarm and do its bidding. Ziz (Titanus Ziz): A rival to Behemoth and Leviathan, this kaiju resembles a griffin, but its bird half looks more like a vulture than an eagle (albeit with dinosaur-like teeth in its beak). Jersey Devil (Titanus Piasa): Similar to popular depictions, but kaiju-sized and possesses a venomous bite. Its behavior is similar to the Velociraptors in the original Jurassic Park as well as the Indoraptor from Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (albeit with bat-like wings). Was identified by the Native Americans as "the Piasa Bird". Fafnir (Titanus Fafnir): A fire-breathing dragon kaiju (with an appearance similar to the dragons in Reign of Fire) contained within an active volcano in Iceland. Iblis (Titanus Iblis): A demonic kaiju contained in Socotra, he was feared in myths as "the King of Demons". He resembles a gargoyle with bat-like wings and only one eye at the center of his face. Kongamato (Titanus Kongamato): A pterosaur kaiju that resembles a giant Dimorphodon (since Rodan already looks like a Pteranodon). Rakshasa (Titanus Rakshasa): A primate kaiju with four arms that resembles a hybrid of a baboon, a chimpanzee, and an orangutan as well possessing tusks like a boar. Sisiutl (Titanus Sisiutl): A gigantic mosasaur kaiju. Communicates using whale-like songs. Pazuzu (Titanus Pazuzu): A kaiju that resembles a gigantic humanoid vampire bat with ape-like features as well as six limbs (two arms, two legs, and two bat wings). Feeds by sucking the blood of other Titans. Was responsible for sightings of the Mothman, the Black Bird of Chernobyl, and Batsquatch (as well as various sightings of winged humanoid creatures). Wendigo (Titanus Wendigo): Resembles modern popular depictions as a skinny, lanky, and gluttonous creature with a deer's skull for a head. Was contained in the Pacific Northwest, and will feed greedily on radiation sources and Titan flesh if it comes across them. Cipactli (Titanus Cipactli): A reptilian hybrid kaiju that lives in the Amazon Rainforest and possesses parts similar to alligators, toads, and eels as well as hair on its body (similar to SCP-682). Known to Brazilian locals as "Cuca". Mongolian Death Worm (Titanus Olghoi-Khorkhoi): A gigantic sandworm kaiju roaming beneath the deserts of Mongolia. Possesses a mouth like a lamprey and the ability to spit venom as well as emit electric shocks. Its feeding behavior is similar to an antlion.
I love the concept of the MUTOs. They’re horribly dangerous and need to be taken out for the sake of life on Earth, but at the same time they’re just living out their life cycle like any other creature. They are both horrifically alien and strangely relatable
When I went to go see Godzilla king of the monsters I had the best crowd cause when the movie was over a full movie theater full with Godzilla fans we started singing the Godzilla song it was nice to be with others like me

Not sure why the military decided to use a nuclear bomb when the male MUTO literally ate a nuclear bomb on live television
The initial blast would kill them or atleast in theory
Eating nuclear material isn’t the same as being hit by the blast of a nuclear weapon.
They literally state in the movie that while the radiation might not affect them, the sheer force of the blast would. Or at least that's what they theorized.

Tbh the muto is like one of my favorite kaiju just because of how awesome they look.

Muto: I CAN DO THE DEADLIEST MOVE!
Godzilla: hold my beer
*Spoilers for King of the Monsters*
Interesting how the very predator of Godzilla's species bows to him at the end of KotM.
Thy Lord, Arceus yeah but you made the comment too short

@@brandonshmandon1799 eh, I guess
I agree. I hate how people hate them just because they're an "American Kaiju."
If it wasn't for ORCA, MUTO Prime would've most likely turned to be the Alpha Titan, and one of the few Kaijus who actually got close to killing Godzilla, basically ever. Their extremely powerful and it's sad they aren't talked about more.
Finally finished watching all the Kaiju Profiles!
1.Godzilla's powerful physique
2.his injuries in battle
3.male MUTO's falling arm when the big G slamms him with the tail into a building.

It’s so weird seeing the 2014 film with the brightness up
My guess for future original Titans in the MonsterVerse:
Charybdis (Titanus Charybdis): A whale kaiju that once had a symbiotic relationship with Scylla.
