Hey I wonder if you’d be interested in doing a video on my great uncle, Charles Barman. He was a British soldier in charge of supplying munitions to artillery in the battle for Hong Kong and became a Japanese prisoner of war enduring some awful treatment. He wrote a secret diary whilst imprisoned that is now published by Hong Kong University Press called “Resist to The End.” Check it out, you might be surprised at how this guy has flown under the radar for so long.
Many of the Levi’s jeans possibly still in the world now were made by ME! I worked in their factory in Scotland in the 80s and 90s, and I was a really fast machinist, I could do it all with my eyes closed. Not an exciting job, but it was a job. The ones I made would be classed as vintage or retro now 😂
18:30 The opposite of planned obsolescence. Yes, I sell fewer units, but more people want my units, and my employees are kept busy while the competition either accepts the dregs or tries to improve. When the market is saturated and all I have left is repair and replace, then I find other units to make and sell.
I used to wear Levi’s exclusively until in the 90’s they stopped selling them a truckstops. I asked the store manager why they stopped carrying them. He said Levi stopped it because it wasn’t the image they wanted to portray. So much for the working man image huh???
I wore Levi's for years until the quality of their jeans diminished. They lasted less than a year. My go to lean is now Lee's, I have two pairs and have been wearing them for over three years. It's sad to see a great product fall by the wayside. s
Thanks for the video! I would like to see a Geographics video on Okayama Japan. They are well known for their Denim as well and would be interested to see if there is a connection between the two.

did you not watch the video - denim was invented in france years before - Italian sailors wore them - Levi was great at marketing and the first to put rivets on jeans - we would still have them
Thnk you for thos one Eric would love to see more one on more businessmen or maybe more newspaper editors that built more famous brands maybe one on horace Greeley and william randolph hearst or edsel ford
I think another neat story would be the bank of Italy head who was based in the US Amado Giannini who saved a lot of people's life savings and this was during the 1906 San Francisco earthquake and fire this would go onto become bank of America one of the biggest banks in the us
My first pair of real jeans were Levi’s back in 1975 I believe. Sophomore in high school and only wore them on Fridays. Now, unless I am going to church, that is all I wear…sometimes I wear them to church. First pair was Levi’s, now they are Gloria Vanderbilt or Walmart brand, as I work there and don’t want to ruin nice jeans. None are old as I have lost a good deal of weight and had to replace them often. Interesting video, thanks.
I have two pairs of Levi's that I wear everyday. I wear one pair for two weeks then wash them and wear the other pair for two weeks. I have one pair over ten years old. The other pair is only about a year old.
12:23 you have nothing to apologize for. I am a Jewish tailor and my accent changed to exactly the one you just did as soon as I put on a thimble for the first time.
Curious though were undergarments or underwear typically worn by the working class in the early in the early days of Levi Strauss hygienically it makes a difference?
Now that they've become part of a uniform of one group, people who don't want to be misidentified as part of that group try to find other things to wear. Competition.
Funny how people say "He was a busy man" in reference of a father of a few... Meanwhile, She is actually the busy one and him fathering 6 kids only proves he got laid at least 6 times LOL
Not jeans, although I rarely wash mine, I have a pair of wool pants that I have only washed 1 time in 6 years. They look and wear incredibly and do not smell.
Levi's jeans are over priced in my opinion for the style and the fact that they are made over seas definitely makes me no longer interested in buying them at all
Well, I thought I was going to get through a funny and informative video without your usual racism bull. That lasted about 21 minutes, but then, you can't help yourselves.
Sweet jesus, tell the story from A to Z, don't bounce all over the place. And for god's sake, go over the material before you present it. It sounds like it's the first time you read it.
First job out of school as a machinist for Levi. Learned everything from cutting floor to dispatch. Good to get the history of the brand. Thanks

The Levi Strauss company tried opening a pants repair facility in San Francisco and got blocked by the city council over fears of jean splicing.
😂
As a biologist, I approve of this joke.
D’oh!
🥁 ba dum
Dang it, take my thumbs up!

Indigo dyed blue jeans did turn your legs blue when they were new.

My oldest jeans are 23 years old and they're Levi's
Wearing blue jeans now! 👖👖👖👖
Does anyone remember when they used to sell them by the weight of the denim back when they were actually made of denim
I have an old pair of 501’s I got as a hand me down from my cousin some 35 years ago. Still love them ❤

Hello eric! Love your content! Thanks For this ❤❤❤❤
I used to live across the street from the old Levi Strauss building on Valencia Street in San Francisco. Now it’s an expensive kid school
Thanks for the video! I would like to see a Geographics video on Okayama Japan. They are well known for their Denim as well and would be interested to see if there is a connection between the two.
I have no idea how long I have had my oldest jeans, but my default is 501s.
This was such fun! Thank you for bringing new energy to the channel. Oh, and oldest jeans are from 1992.

I wash my jeans every 3 months.
Your butthole will get pink eye 😂
I kept waiting for the story of why the rivet in the groin area was removed. Maybe another time. Yes look it up.
My oldest pair of jeans is no longer my pair of jeans. I have passed them down to my eldest child. Bought in mid 90s. They wore them last week.
And usually 3-5 wearings before washing, but not multiple days in a row, unless something gets spilled on them.
Interesting, this has come out at the same time Beyonce has announced her collaboration with Levis.
Who knew that Chumlee invented bluejeans😂😂
Love the Eddie Munster hair style
I miss Simon. May he rest in peace.
Without him we wouldn't have blue jeans👖today
did you not watch the video - denim was invented in france years before - Italian sailors wore them - Levi was great at marketing and the first to put rivets on jeans - we would still have them
...and we also wouldn't have Jay Leno😅
I've gone through many pairs of jeans however I bought a levi leather belt in 1996 and have worn it daily since , it's durable
Showing love for Larry
2-3 days before i wash mine unless there is a food/drink stain on them.
My oldest pair are now 21 years old.

Easy on the hair dye Mr. Guiliani
He forgot the beard lol

Jeans have a decent resale value.

Could you do an episode on Mendel and The Prophet Muhammad, please?
And to fit in my Mario joke. "What kind of overalls does Mario wear?" Answer "Denim Denim denim."
I've not washed my jeans ever. I'm tryna see if my farts are destroying the fabric.
" When'I wake up, in the morning light. I pull on my blue jeans and Im alright. I pull my blue jeans on , I pull my ol' blue jeans on. "
So this is the “Reverend Blue Jeans” from the Neil Diamond song! 😯
I might just stop washing my jeans💯👖😅
Must no longer be a "cosmic horror mad man"
Teenage boys should *never* be told that the company says jeans don’t need to be washed!! 😂😂😂
Now it says made by robot workers.
More like, Made By East Asian Sweat Shop Workers.
bring back the bald british guy to do this, he was soo much better
It's not "ju-DAY-ism"; it's closer to "judy-ism" (& yes, I'm Jewish)

They are living on reputation now.
Unhmm ripping men apart um hmm we know.

🎉🎉
I haven't worn jeans since 1965. Even when they became fashionable I refused. I still consider them work clothes.
I hate jeans so much. I think they are the most uncomfortable thing. Good video though.
No Simon. Bye Bye.
What a pointless comment.
83rd
Building channels then selling them to other ppl sucks, what is this crap.

Calvin Klein jeans 1980 size 7
I have a pair of hand me down Levi from the 70s that I love....
Blue jeans and no pop music.
I learned a lot about a great clothing brand I’ve been a fan of since forever! 😀🫰🏼✨
