  • Trying to go shopping in China as an American woman, specifically one who is curvy and on the verge of plus size, was really difficult. But after living in Nanjing (and later Beijing) for most of 2016, I have some great tips and advice for you on how to find fashion forward clothes in China when you wear a bigger size.

    F means free size or "one size fits all"

    It's very sad for me. The only way I can have clothes in China is to buy custom made. I'm a bear. In fact, my Chinese nickname is Shuo Hua De Xiong, which means Talking bear.

      puppetsock hah cute name! You could try taobao and enter 大码女装 (for women's clothes) or 大码男装 (for men)

      Rosie, thank you! That looks like the thing for me. When I did a quick search and then used on-line translation, almost the first thing I found was "Ho Langge new men's fattening extra large casual short-sleeved shirt fat loose shirt." Do you know if they have a store in Shenzhen?

      It's so hard to be curvy and need clothes in China! The good thing is that custom clothing in China is WAY cheaper than in most western countries

    im also a size 10/12 and that is an XXL not an XL. And their labeling is all over the place. I just give up and buy on taobao now and look at the waist and hip and bust in cm and buy clothes this way. Even HM is carrying petite sizes not even regular sizes... So I'll buy a pair of jeans but I need to buy a 44 and it's tight on my butt but loose around the waist and way too short for my legs. It's pretty terrible!

    Nanjing is a south China place, where people are smaller in size. People from north China tend to be bigger.

    Hi love your video. i am looking for my daughter and they are your size. when i was in the Asian pacific we would give our measurements to a tailor and have clothes made. have you tried this and would ask the cost. if i could send a tailor their measurements then i might be able to some cute clothes for the girls.

    • @LaurenWithoutFear
      @LaurenWithoutFear  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      There's TONS of tailors around here! That's definitely an option :) I found Marks & Spencer at The Place (a mall) in Beijing and that was a HUGE help for me! What city are you in?

  • @TheadoreRexicus
    @TheadoreRexicus 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I don't know if you're still in China, but I'm living in Beijing as a US size 14 and if you go on PandaBoo or BaoPals (english taobao), you can search plus size things! Always size up. Kissmilk is one of my favorite plus size shops on there. Similar to forever 21 in the style.

    Could you please reply!!
    So I’m from the states and I’m a size l or xl and I really don’t know about the Asian size and I’ve been doing researches and it took me that in the Asian size I’m a 2xl or mostly known here in the us xxl or just the same please can you please reply to the comment I’m trying to buy a hoodie and in the section it shows Asian sizes and I’m not sure and I won’t know if an 2xl would fit me fine or a little big

    • @LaurenWithoutFear
      @LaurenWithoutFear  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      A large in the US is around a 2XL in Asian sizes :) It depends on the brand, though! I doubt it'll be too big. 2XL in Asian sizes sounds huge but it's not compared to what we wear in the US! Hope that helps.

      Lauren Without Fear thanks for replying first of all
      And do you think about the sizes I’m almost like you but in a 2”in smaller in stature but in body it’s like almost the same what would you recommend and well I’m trying to find an exo hoodie on eBay and it shows the Asian sizes

    hi Lauren, I am planning to come to China in November (from Australia). I don't have a travel buddy and don't want to travel on my own. any tips for this? would you recommend or know much about couch surfing?

    • @LaurenWithoutFear
      @LaurenWithoutFear  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Personally, I'm too scared of couch surfing, but I know a lot of people do it. You can also look into websites like backpackyack.com or www.backpackr.org and try to meet people on there to travel with. Personally, I've found hostels to be a great place to meet people. Hope this helps!

    • @goodfella1234
      @goodfella1234 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would suggest you to make some Chinese friends in Australia, get to know them and see whether you can find some travel buddies. A lot of Chinese oversea students go home for school break/summer break in November, maybe you can find someone that are going to the same places around the same time.
      Or put little ads on notice boards at Unis, colleges, language schools or even Chinese churches, see what responses you may get.
