It was hilarious when I tried. I was staring right at my fingertips trying to get my brain to specifically tell fingers 1 & 3 to lift off the string while keeping finger 2 & 4 fixed. It was a bit like I was trying to use mental telepathy to tell someone else’s hand how to move. Eventually I got it, but it took some serious concentration. I imagine you are building new neural pathways when you practice this.

It reminds me of a thing i learned when i was a kid, you cross your arms and lace your fingers, then pull your arms under and around towards your chin, then someone points at a finger you're supposed to move without touching it and most people always move the opposite handed finger

I had the same issue. Also, every time I moved the second finger, the third finger would love too 😐😵‍💫. It took a good 30 minutes to connect my brain to my fingers.

Thank you for being so detailed with the description, diagram, and camera angles despite the repetition! Your videos are always so helpful 💜

I been trying this exercise for few wks now just for few mins each day. It gets easier but I still have to really concentrate. It has helped my finger movement when trying different cords and melody which is good. Worth keep practicing. 👍😁

Yeah, it’s something you do for a couple of minutes. I’ve been doing it for a week and I am getting much better at it! ☀️🎸

I've practiced a variation of this on acoustic guitar; move fingers 1&2 together from string one to two and then back. Now move fingers 1&3 up and back. So on and so forth. Takes a lot of concentration and patience. The feeling like someone else is controlling your fingers is frustrating and hilarious at the same time but it's a great way to sharpen your focus during practice time. Thanks for the reminder about moving fingers in unison like this Marco! Love your content 🙂

There are a ton of variations for this exercise. This is probably one of most challenging. ☀️🎸

I find this much easier on the piano than on the ukulele. But I just started on the uke.
And I just found your channel, and I felt I made more progress in 15 minutes with your methods that I am excited to see the progress I'll make in the next 7 years.

Wow. This is difficult. Hope it proves worth it….

I can confirm that I'm in the majority.
My fingers are all over the place. When I try to lift fingers 1 & 3 to the second string, my ring finger (#2) lifts off too.

Check out "Johnny Carson tries Finger Fitness" lots of fun things to try when you can't have a uke in your hand. Just don't let your pen accidentally fly across the room in the middle of a meeting.

I can't do this, lol, I only have 3+1/2 Fingers on my fretting hand from a high school shop accident. Half of my pinky finger is missing and the ring finger is slightly twisted and bent. This happened when I was 17, I am 70 now and have long ago adjusted to it. I play uke, guitar, and some banjo. I did play in a band and everyone thought I was great, but there are things I just can't do LOL

No worries.Your work makes uke n guitar whimsical, beautiful and attractive for me. I'm self taught. I'm not fully making a connection when a verse is position 1 open chords. And further along into the piece there's barre chords. So when I play, why do I play up the neck? If I'm in position one was a writer or noodler. What are people doing up the neck. How do I know when to move up the neck why how and what to do. Is it just the same progression higher? I'm lost when comparing or even understanding why someone goes up n down neck. I see it I hear it. I'm missing application. Long explanation but Im lost and I know intermediate theory. I can't apply that knowledge to the instrument on that aspect. It's my missing link. Or master key maybe? 🤔

very difficult brain-finger coordination exercise; bouzouki players make all finger pattern exercises throughout the fretboard , maybe they can do this on the first attempt, not me!
