He actually got hit twice when he was racing for positions at the end of this race. Once in the top 10 and then he was back in 27th and made it into the top 20 and got spun again at the end. He drove really well today and it would’ve been the top 10 finish, but that’s all taken away from him because other people can’t drive. Haters Need to stop saying that Shane can’t drive because he is clearly good enough to do so, but they might want to look at the people around him. Have been doing it for years and still can’t drive.
Thanks so much for your commentary on each of SVGs races. I'm a Skip (Australian) and have seen his magic. You have picked up that he is a great driver, but he still has so many tricks in his bag that you haven't seen. Like making tyres last 10-15 laps after everyone else's have gone off. Australian history is not short of great drivers, but in my 50+ years of watching, he's the most talented
Thanks for another great update. As an Aussie it good to get an understanding of NASCAR. It’s not as good as Supercars as a viewer’s sport and the television coverage is not even in the same league. But you make it interesting and explaining the different tracks types and how they are all so different for ovals. 👍

On his radio at start of stage 3 they called the fuel save and no more stop strategy. So the losing spots initially was not unexpected, as they asked him to find some extra fuel save. They abandoned the strategy at the caution when he pitted because SVG reported the car was bad and getting worse, and he wanted adjustments and was prepared to lose track position to get them.
@@horsefly1020 Yep... like they said in the coverage... Shane is learning ovals, and doesn't normally race him on ovals, BUT they do race each other on road/streets. If we in ANZAC countries know anything, that anything is 'Gizzy does not forget or forgive' 😂
In the recent Portland Xfinity race, Shane van Gisbergen (SVG) did not take out Sam Mayer. Instead, SVG won the race after a late pass. Mayer had a strong race but clipped a tire barrier in the closing laps, which caused a flat tire and dropped him to 28th place
Its all good im sure SVG is learning something every time he races ovals it’s only a matter of when he gets there ! if you make SVG cranky - he will hit you harder. there will come a time when he will win on an oval. scott mclaughlan just did it in indy, the only thing stopping SVG from wiping the entire cup field off the face of the racing map is his age. he should have gone to the US five years ago.
Well, you are missing a little bit of information there, Nicolai. His car was an absolute heap of shit for 3/ quarters of the race as per usual. Shane kept working on it with the crew chief and by the time they got to the last pitstop that actually corrected a lot of the problems because it was too loose into the turns and tight in the centre off section early on. Once they finally got it sorted out by the Last stage, he was able to drive it forward and so he had the speed to be in the top 10 and was looking good for a top 10 finish as you said. If Kaulig could give him cars that weren’t heaps of crap at the start, I’m sure he would be in the top 10 more regular.
@@TheSaturnV He's kinda right though. SVG is learning each time he turns a lap. He's surprising even me with just how much he's improving each race on ovals. Did SVG lap times improve over the duration of the race in comparison to the other drivers? If they did, how much was due to car set-up and how much was due to SVG improved ''track knowledge''? Either way ALL drivers need to be penalised for incompetent driving and suspended for deliberate actions. I guarantee there would be a marked improvement in racecraft if there were consequences for taking out other cars. Is there ANY other motorsports where this doesn't occur?
The amount of "its just a racing deal" is bogus. Heaps of well sponsored drivers are free to move whoever they desire. Their carnage gets eyeballs while smallish teams pick up the pieces. Not saying SVG's team is small.
