Thanks brother. All the other videos they pulled it out the bottom, tried and failed. Figured I could come out the side and your video walked me through it.
Great video, thank you! My 2013 Yukon XL didn’t have the 8 mm nut for the small wire, it had a plastic electrical clip, so some people may run into that, just fyi. Also, to echo Ron Xx above, removing the engine heat shield with the 6 x 10 mm bolts made a big difference to access and remove the starter sideways! However, don’t “remove” the heat shield. After it’s unbolted simply shimmy the shield upward to give enough space. Then reaffix afterwards.
Thank you! Cleaning the battery connection to starter is an important step. I skipped this step and was frustrated that new starter wasn't working. Scrubbed connection with emery cloth and truck starts like new! I really appreciate this video.
sr.thank you for sharing you video with people like me. I don't know to much about car repair.but I had to replace my 2007 gmc yukon denali like your starter, once again thanks, save me a lot money I last time brought my truck to dealership end pay over $3,ooo dollars never gonna happen again thank you you so much.you had new subcriber and thump up
Thank you for the video, utilized this to assist with my starter removal and installation on a 2011 suburban. Few things I wanted to mention for anyone reading - the starter won't come out of the bottom on a suburban due to the brake lines. Easiest way is the side. make sure you get a 3/8 deep long 13mm socket. I could not get the second screw out from the bottom with my 1/2 socket drive so I kept trying 1/4 socket drive (too close to the transmission) and broke 2 1/4 to 3/8 adapters. Second, do yourself a favor and remove the damn engine heat cover. It's like 6 10mm screws takes literally one minute. You'll spend more time trying to shimmy the starter in and out. Once that cover is off it makes things so much easier.
Lovely video boss very detailed am about get my stater on the 1st strong arm the steering wheel to position it to see the start hit 2 cold beers and get to work
You can just unbolt the starter, point the front toward the ground, and then disconnect the wires all from the bottom. Takes 15 min. There is no reason to touch that inner fender.
I tried that method and it was a beotch getting my hands in there without scraping them all up plus dropping it out. His method is easier on the hands plus you dont have to lay on your back for it all. Be my go-to method next time I change one.
I'm literally going to autozone to buy my starter now, just wanted to see what kinda work I was in for. Doesn't seem hard at all, thank you for the information.
Just did mine today. Those back 2 wires are a pain lol. I did have to take the wheel off but i didn't have to take out the plastic shield. My hands are small, i was able to get a small ratchet on the 2 cables on the back side of rhe starter by goingin under the heat shieldon the motor. My tahoe is lifted so that helped. I will say it helps alot to take 2 bolts out of starter then angle it down a little to get your hand in behind there. Took me a few hours. But saved some money.
Great video. Next time imma try your way. I have a 07 Yukon Denali XL also same color too, it was a pain in the ass tryna get it from the Bottom since the Sway Bar is in the way! Thanks!
What a great fucking video man. Thanks it’s 5:27 am here in Chicago with rainy weather and my starter has been giving me issues this week now I’m missing work and will replace it hahaha great detailed video.
Did this..... Sunday morning Forgot to put the heat shield on...... Got lucky. Removed the rim and it slipped right on. Total time including a 6 mile trip to O Rilley, a cup of gas station coffee, removal and replacement was under an hour and a half. My lighting must have been better than yours.
What was the main issue with your starter/starting of Yukon? I have a new battery and new alternator but sometimes have a slow start (not a quick turn of key and engine start). Trying to figure out if it is a starter, ground or wire issue. (I have a 2007 GMC Yukon XL Denali, 6.2L)
In this case the starter quit completely. Sometimes a dragging or slow starter can be the result of bad or loose cables or even a starter relay issue. If a starter is drawing too many amps due to bad cables or poor connection it will shorten the life of the starter.
How did you determine the starter was the problem? Can you describe what the symptoms were? My 07 Yukon Denali has a fully charged battery but wont turn over. I hear a click and nothing else. If I boost it, it will start. Maybe the boost is pushing more current then the battery alone can provide.
@Jason Benavides I returned to Walmart with the battery and they tested it quickly and told me it was a good battery. I didn't trust their test so I bought another battery, this time and AGM battery instead of lead acid. I have not had the problems starting my truck since. I started it yesterday in -30 weather, block heater not plugged in after sitting for a week, started right up, no problems. I have returned the "good tested" battery back to walmart for a refund.
Hi i have a question i have a 2007 chevy suburban this morning i took the truck aut of the garage and like 1 later a trie to start the truck it just do a click and the battery is good it just do a click
If it's the starter you will usually do just one click sound and nothing else....of course it could be other things, such as, loose connection to starter/batteries, faulty neutral position switch, a blown fuse, faulty anti theft system, etc.
Hi my 08 denali won't crank over no clicking sound just nothing installed new battery also. When I lock the car with the fob there's a car and lock icon that will flash three times 🚘🔒when I unlock it's fine this is maybe due to my rear lock on door not working properly. Would this affect starting of the car at all please help.
Pete Oberman I would check to see if you are getting power to your starter on the signal wire. This will tell you if you have an issue with the switch or computer or if you just have a bad starter. An easy test is to use a jumper wire from the battery cable on the back of the starter and touch it to the signal connection (where the small wire connects on the back of the starter). If when you apply that power the starter engages then you check the relay, wiring, ignition switch. If it doesn’t do anything then you need a new starter.
@@YourCarGuyDR hello sir just got home today went to try to start the car and suprise started right away after sitting for 5 days I looked at the starter and connectors are little rusted. You may need to check fuel pressure if it is cranking but not wanting to start.
@@YourCarGuyDR when the key is on position is the oil pressure gauge supposed to climb?
@@jeremyrice1463 it should not
What if your car still doesn't crank
Assuming your battery is good and the connections are tight you start looking for an issue with the ignition switch or neutral safety switch.
Thanks for the help but you're leaking oil
Yep, rear main is leaking. Pulling the motor now for a refresh and reseal.
If you have the 6.2L forget it. It's impossible
