Seeing all the RIP Wilt comments makes me kinda realize that hoops fans today are actually pretty lucky that most of the legends of the game are still alive. I mean, we almost take it for granted but future generations are probably gonna think it was the coolest thing ever that we lived through a time where you could see several interviews and appearances from Bill Russell every season from someone. Almost like baseball fans who were around when Babe Ruth was alive.
That’s right on. I think I remember reading that when Kobe died, he was just the third NBA MVP that had passed (since then, we’ve lost Wes Unseld). That would mean that until Moses Malone died in 2015, Wilt was the only MVP that had died (1999). We are very fortunate to get to see and hear from any NBA legend today.
Whenever a rising superstar is placed in an event with other legends they never quite live up to that bill. But with Shaq after his career was over he was on par wit the legends from this video. Very impressive.

No telling just how great Walton could have been if he hadn't been so damn brittle. Watching Walton and the Blazers dismantle the Sixers in the '77 finals convinced me that he was one of the best ever, if only for a brief moment in history. And there's no way he's "just" 6"11'.
Only Kareem was a better player than Walton in the late 70's, and Walton was the winning man at this period of time. He was the best team player in the best team in the NBA.

UCLA defeated Kansas the first 8 times they played, ranging from 1958-59 season to 1989-90 season. Wilt left Kansas before his senior year which would have been 1958-59 so he never played against UCLA. The first time Kansas defeated UCLA was in the 1995-96 season. Overall, Kansas has an 8-10 record against the Bruins.

Centers where the same height as they are now but thats without foot wear, also there was 1 *really* short center and since there was only like 10 teams 1 center could bring the average down. Can’t really compare 6’11- 7’3 centers to a 6’6/7 SG in MJ. He was a great above the rim legend for sure, but that’s like comparing completely far in range weight classes to another. That’s practically similar to comparing a UFC Heavyweight legend to a Middleweight legend, it doesn’t work. While personal favorites are nice, but just remember that they’re all legends, and great for their own reasons, not simply because one is greater than the other, no that’s not what being a legend is. They all stand out amongst those who are not legends for a reason, have some all around respect, that’s all.

Wilt was 7'1" so he did not tower of Shaq but he is noticeably taller. But throughout Shaq's career, he was always listed at 7'1". And that is typical of the NBA. A good portion of the time, they are not honest about the height of their players and the players happily go along with this. Now they measure players while they wear their shoes. What a joke. LOL.

A few thoughts: look how young and thin Shaq is. He's quiet around these centers, all of whom were, at their peak, better than him. Walton looks as tall as Wilt, no? Yet he's always listed as 6' 11". Interesting clip! Three of these players could with credibility be called the GOAT: Wilt, Kareem, and Russell, all for different reasons. (Yet I think Jordan is the best ever.)
Can’t really compare 6’11- 7’3 centers to a 6’6/7 SG in MJ. He was a great above the rim legend for sure, but that’s like comparing completely far in range weight classes to another. That’s practically similar to comparing a UFC Heavyweight legend to a Middleweight legend, it doesn’t work. While personal favorites are nice, but just remember that they’re all legends, and great for their own reasons, not simply because one is greater than the other, no that’s not what being a legend is. They all stand out amongst those who are not legends for a reason, have some all around respect, that’s all.
@@LittleOzzyLand Yeah, like I havent heard/thought about that before. There may be, though, such a thing as "best overall," and that player is, for me--and probably most who pay attention--Jordan. Agreed? I do, though, think a person could make the case for a very few others--Wilt (freakish size, strength, athleticism, records), Kareem (scoring, championships), Russell (championships, defense), and Jordan. One *might* make the case for LeBron.
Walton was definitely never 6'11." I think he was at least 7'1" or more but I heard he didn't want to be considered freakishly tall so he lied about his height.

Fun bs. Shaq was never as big a wilt he is 6 ft 11 you can watch the video on Howard Stern .He says that himself. Wilt measured barefoot was 7 ft 1 and one eighth inches. In todays NBA he would be listed at 7ft 3.
