He redefined the position....he had the best moves, he wasn't as big as other Centers but managed to overplay them, his blocks were from another planet... great jumps, perfect timing!!! What else can i say.... i lived in Chicago from 1995-2003, was very happy that the Bulls won all those Championships but Hakeem and the Rockets did it in a different manner and i admire them for that!!!! Definitely, Hakeem is my favourite player that ever played the game of basketball!!!

Those numbers you put up with Olajuwon in the playoffs in 94 & 95, was his usual from the moment he appeared in the playoffs from his Rookie Season forward (85-86). Hakeem is definitely, top 3 in my book, and I'd probably say it's him or Kareem at the top 2 centers. However, I feel Hakeem; Jordan and Lebron, are the three most skilled and athletically gifted players to ever play the game. As far as who was the best: I guess, you can give the nod to Jordan and Olajuwon, as they were great defensive and Big game players from day one. Lebron, didn't always live up to the big moment. Kareem, gets honorable mention in that Skill/Athleticism short list, as his Sky hook and incredible size and length were super weapons worthy of mention. LOL

An absolute stud and one of my favourite players of all time along with his boy Ralph Sampson. Cant imagine the havok those two would've wreaked if Ralph never got hurt. Nevertheless is one of the goats and is one of the most well rounded players of all time. He never played on any super teams in his prime yet still dominated and won. Like you said, his championships weren't a product of Jordans departure I don't think people understand how much a championship run takes a toll on your body. Its between 16 and 28 games extra which is the main reason why there have been so few threepeats and nothing above aside from the 60s celtics who were just built different. I followed Akeem/Hakeem since his UH days......he had a lot of back handed blocks in his career...if he could not block a shot in a conventional way he would improvise....you can see this in some the clips shown here.

I'd take him over every other player. With everyone else you need more around them no matter how little they need. Hakeem is a superstar and almost every role player in one. I'd take him over every other player. With everyone else you need more around them no matter how little they need. Hakeem is a superstar and almost every role player in one. He is a star he is a top defender maybe best alltime. He is a rebounder he can run the floor and stretch the floor. He is a post player. He shot blocker. Gets in passing lanes. If he lost it wasn't his fault. You need to name how many hall of famers how many goats to equal all of that. Kobe and mj not holding down the paint that the big guys job. Kareem not winning without the best pg of the era. Lebron won't play hard if he is down. They all have better careers. But no before during or since can do all of that.
