Thanks for sharing! Fellow Michigander here. A group of us was actually at Buffalo Mountain around the same time last year, but unfortunately didn’t end up hitting 199. Looks awesome, will have to do it next time.
Nice video man. About to head back to Matewan next month after not being there for 4 or 5 years now and taking in some videos to hold me over. Looks like you guys had fun! 199 is definitely a bear.
Great Job. Looks like you'll learn a little about momentum as you ride/race more. The leaves make it tougher for sure. Soft suspension and some gummy tires would help too. Humbling video for sure. You sound like a great kid. Be safe and have Fun!
Looks like an awesome trail! Can't wait to give it a try. Heading that way with the crew 5/2022. Husky rider obviously is running a Rekluse... @23:45 LOL
Thanks for sharing! Fellow D14 Sprint Enduro C rider. We take 1-2 trips a year down to Hatfield McCoy. We made the mistake of riding 188 at Rockhouse in the rain, we didn't have a clue about the numbering / difficulty at the time. I can relate to the exhaustion and feeling that your never going to get all the way through.
I'll see you next year at District 14 races, just got back into it after 15yrs off of dirt. And your bros GoPro footage at 18:08 is hilarious, checking them matches haha.
The guys I go down to Hatfields with ride that stuff. That's all they like. The hard technical single track stuff. They all use recluse clutches and trial tires.
Tires make a big difference. My selection the past trip did not hook up well and is designed for sand/mud. Geomax mx 33. I plan to run a gummy hybrid next trip.
Great video Kyle. I'm starting to plan a trip down there for the spring...assuming that's a good time to go. I race C class in D17...what would you suggest for trails to hit for a first trip down there? I was definitely leaning towards buffalo mountain already.
...and have you tried the IRC VE33S gummy hybrid? I like that tire so much I'm going to try their front next year. 40+ hours on it, about half racing, and it still looks good too.
Buffalo Mountain has the most single track to offer. You will find the trails 150-170's to be nice and flowing single track for the most part. Then once you get into the 180s and 90s the trails become much more techincal and have very difficult climbs. We spent 3 plus hours on 199 and its only a little over 4 miles, so be prepared if you try and tackle it.
@@tomcrnkovich1661 i may try this tire out my next trip. We ride alot of sand in Michigan and the geomax33 is awesome, but not so awesome in West Virginia!!!
@@kylehardley Yep, we were in Baldwin last year and did Indian River this year...I love those sand trails you have out there. The 33s is a really good compromise. Tons of grip but it's still durable enough. You won't just burn through it.
What kind of bike is yous? Sounds like it’s got quite a lot of grunt, my dad rides a yamah 450 and it’s definitely not meant for this stuff but we shove it through all the trails anyway. It’s always overheating and it’s just way to heavy to handle over all these rocks but we can’t find a new one. Just wondering what your riding instead.
It was awesome. One of those trails that when I was finished I said I didn't want to do it again. But sitting here a few weeks later I can't wait to hit it again.
I was there in September 2020......Mostly great trails, just a few like 199 and one other one that were too much....I live in South Florida so its quite a haul for me. Have you done Brown Mountain in Hickory North Carolina?
Cameras never do justice on how steep a hill is. Or how off camber they are. I have lived my hole life in West Virginia. Owned a motorcycle a majority of it. I have always believed if you can ride here at a decent skill level you can ride anywhere.
Amazing how that camera footage makes it look like anyone and their little sister could do it with ease. You watch and wonder “why the heck are they struggling so much?” Bwhahahaha!!

Thanks for reminding me why I do not like carrying my bike through 199.....lol

The trial looks awesome w some sketch , looking good !
Awesome video/ camera work.
Great job

Recommend a gummy tire... I was running a GEOMAX MX33 and it didn't hook up well. Planning a spring trip myself.
That is the tough direction to ride 199. Great work on it. Also great video and commentary.
Awesome content👍👍 look forward to more post of single track in the mountains

Haha... I never noticed that before. Awesome you are getting back into it.
🙈
Next time buy a gummy tire makes a big difference. We rode 199 both ways and the way your going gives you a good feeling of accomplishment!!
Definitely going with a gummy next time!
Looks like tug straps would have been handy.

Wow this is rugged good job

That was us you ran into at the 9 minute mark. We're we right about it being harder going your way? Haha
It was definitely all we wanted and more.

KTM 250f EXC
When did you go? Jake and I just got back from there over Thanksgiving weekend.
Two weeks before you. Wish I would had known you were going we could have coordinated trips. Maybe next year!
How did u like the trial?

Man, I'd love to go there. Not sure I can convince my riding buddies to make that trip from Michigan.

Absolutely, one of the best and most challenging trail systems in the country.
What gro pro do you use the footage looks great
Part of this video was shot with Hero 7 and part was Hero 9. Both at 4k / 30 fps Hypersmooth
@@kylehardley it all looks really good kept up the hard work and were heading there this march

Man I know!!! When I watched it back I thought, its not that bad... must have been my tires ;-)
Damn bud nice riding! Great trail. Ditch that 4 stroke and get a bike that doesn’t have all gyroscopic weight working against you.
That 250 4T is a fine bike for that riding.
What KTM are you riding ?
17' 250 excf
Nice I'm the fat guy in blue jersey # 8104 at 945ish
Thats awesome! We are beginning to plan a spring trip now.
