    STELLAR, STUNNING VIDEO! THANK YOU!!! We have Fishers! They are stunning and move beautifully- so lithe! What a beautiful animal and we are proud to protect them on our historic property! They live in our bluestone walls! We see where they were oiginally called, 'Fisher Cat' in the 19c because when we first saw one in the dusk- we thought it was a large cat!

    Here in Rhode Island I have a male and female that have been coming around this area in Coventry and I'm always glad to see them, the female come across the back yard and it was around 5:30 pm which is something they don't do, seeing there nocturnal, she must've had pups or something I was able to get close enough to snap some pictures and she looked up at me and just keeped going!! I discovered them about 6 years ago and I didn't see them for awhile and then she passed through that evening, which to me was a very good site, I love all animals and there more important to this world than human, Less destructive and take care of there own!!!

    One of these things is now coming right up to my deck at night and nibbling on whatever goodies I leave out for the animals. I always have some old bread, fruit or vegetables laying around and I throw it out back instead of in the trash. I figured this way it's not a total waste, right? Anyway, I saw one of these in broad daylight a few weeks ago, just hopping along in my backyard. He's jet-black and really cute actually but I've heard they're vicious. We'll see how vicious he is once he gets used to eating here.... they all change their tune once they realize I got food for them. I'm up in Massachusetts.

    • @MtAirWild
      @MtAirWild  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@alexanderkrummholtz1589 I will have to disagree with you on this, I have heard the sound they make and the best way for most to describe it would be a scream. Why do you say they don't? or what would you call the sound they make?

    • @alexanderkrummholtz1589
      @alexanderkrummholtz1589 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MtAirWild Not to be rude, but did you see the sound actually come out of a fisher's mouth? I say this because every expert that has worked extensively with fishers states they don't scream, every video of screaming "fishers" on youtube doesn't actually show a fisher screaming, and as someone who researches mustelids as a hobby I haven't encountered any other mustelid species that scream. Fishers, like other mustelids, are generally very quiet.
      I know that some species of otter, and perhaps fisher kits (based off one video I've seen) can make a sort of mewling/whining sound when they're hungry, but it's far from the banshee-like scream most people describe when they say they've heard a fisher. Bobcats, lynx, foxes, rabbits, deer and even porcupines are all more likely culprits of any screaming that can be heard in the woods.

    • @MtAirWild
      @MtAirWild  ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't consider your comment to be rude, I may even learn something. You are correct, I didn't actually see the animal that made the noise. I have heard a bobcat and the new sound I heard I don't believe was a bobcat. Haha, you know what? I didn't see the sound I considered a bobcat actually come out of a bobcat either. Both sounds I described to others, The one I was told was a bobcat (long before TH-cam), the other a fisher. This of course does not prove a thing. Fishers are knew to the area where I have been filming them, (the area I grew up in and know like the back of my hand) when I heard the strange noise for the first time I thought it must be a fisher and others agreed. Still no real proof. This only makes me wonder what did I hear? We don't have lynx, it was not a fox, rabbit, deer, or porcupine. I have been observing wildlife for nearly 45 years, I can rule them out.

    • @MtAirWild
      @MtAirWild  3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Thanks! Although I regularly use trail cams to locate various animals, this one I captured with a Canon G50, G40, and a GoPro. The GoPro was the one he came up to smell. We found him in the tree (it is not it's den) and it would not come down as long as we where there. I set the GoPro on the ground to the North side of the tree, the g40 on the South side, and sent the 2 people with me towards the East. Guessing it would not go in the direction it watched humans leave I set up the G50 to the West. I waited 45 minutes for it to finally come down.
