Hey JT, I got out of Boot on the 29th last month. I'm over in Pensacola in the NACCS barracks, and it's amazing. For anyone having any doubts or anything like that, the best advice I can give is to not give up. The RDC's want to weed out the weak minded, that's their job. Just stay positive and push through, it gets so much better. I promise you won't regret it. Good Luck guys, do great things :)

I loved the video, and I actually learned somethings. I was an AW for a P-3 squadron, if we weren’t flying or in a simulation, we were doing whatever fucking off we wanted to do. Never stepped foot on a ship, never went to meetings (once in a while there was one), almost no inspections. We just chilled in the shop that had a big heavy metal door with a combination that only we knew. I would definitely suggest that if you have a chance to be an AW on a P-3, you do that shit. Probably the closest you can come to Navy royalty, honestly, the Officers had it way worse than us.

Like what rates in the Navy transfer well into civilian life, and what quals and stuff come with the rates that are worth gold in the civilian world! I was I-level in the Marines. Loved the Marines, hated the job. I wish I had seen a video like this explaining the difference between Ilevel and Olevel. If you like eating Taco Bell, dipping, drinking energy drinks, watching youtube, and playing flash games all day, go Ilevel. Good luck maintaining your weight and staying motivated though.

Plane Captain= orientation into how to handle yourself around million-dollar aircrafts. otherwise, nice intro into Squadron LIFE, you forgot to mention all those on/off load board working party's such fun. Daily/ Turnaround to help identify any immediate problems that accrue after flight or before a flight. LIKE .... low tire, low hyd, low strut etc.. all these items that identified on check list. JT gave half Careers worth of info. just take it as comes. LINE shack is hard work. melting pot of every breed of human. some lazy, some work, You learn that LPO's are cycled through Diff div for LPO experience every one has there own method on how to lead. learn to adapt or get hung out to dry... Hea don Swivel on the flight Deck.

Just a quick update. They changed it now so even if you get top of your class you still get completely random orders. The only advantage of getting top of your class is you get promoted. Now they're just sending you wherever

Great video, one big question because I've talked to guys from LHD ships and was wondering if you could make a video of the differences of working aviation on those versus on a carrier. I hear a lot of guys going into aviation thinking a carrier is their only option.

Just about to finish up AE school and they do not really let you pick orders as of my go around, but you can be meritoriously advanced to PO 3rd class.

I asked for west coast and got NAS Virginia beach. For my C school and my ultimate. VFC 12 - F18. The 10 marines in my class got mostly f-35's. The 4 other sailors in my class got got the following: one got F-18 in Norfolk, one got helicopter in Jacksonville, one got the 747 version one west coast even though he asked for East coast, and one got Japan, forgot the platform but I think helicopters too.

Hey Jtsuits in A school there is no choice in orders now you just pick a coast i.e. East, west or over seas
not even if you get top of class ? .. I'm sure they just do it different every couple years depending on manning
JTsuits nope even if you get top of class it's just the coast you picked, I got top and I really wanted to chose my orders but just got the coast I wanted but I think it's just cause of the manning as you said which sucks cause I really wanted a chance to pick my orders. Around our second week classed up they gave us a sheet where we chose our coast or over seas , I'm currently at the navy base in whidbey island as an Air framer.

Yo Jt, just got pact airman. I got a 74 on the asvab but i needed to leave soon. I understand the job pretty well. But my question to you is whike deployed whats the acess to internet like. If i planned on taking online school. Should i work in aroynd deployments? Just want to know if ill be able to get online every now and then to submit a work or email. Whats your take on that from what you saw

This brings back so many memories. I worked on aircraft in the air force. I remember the excitement of working around active aircraft, especially when we were playing war games, or on temporary deployment. My first base was in the middle of nowhere in Germany (early 80's during the cold war). It seemed like it rained or snowed every day of the year, meaning a lot of lost flight time. Every few months we would deploy to Spain or Turkey for a month so the pilots could get their required flight time. We had to work hard to squeeze a ton of sorties into a short time. Hot turns on the aircraft (meaning the aircraft received fuel and weopons while still running). It was an exciting life. I was doing work that mattered. I was part of a team. We had each others back. We worked hard, and we played hard. Military people can party harder in the middle of the week than civilians do on a Friday. We worked long hours. When it was done, we fired up the grill and broke out the beer. Most people get out of the military for a more stable life. More time with their family. More stable working hours. Less BS.Thats what I did. What we don't realize is how boring civilian life can be after being in the military. I am in my early 50's now. I can honestly say that I had more responsibility in my early 20's in the military than I do now. I am a stationary engineer in a large building. My job is the same as a naval engineering rating (or snipe). We work in the boiler rooms, mechanical rooms, engine rooms, etc. Corporations are a lot more careful. They are not going to give a teenager responsibility for millions of dollars worth of equipment like the military will. Corporations usually do not let people in their early 20's be in charge of work crews like the military will. A lot of us get out for a better life, and than spend our days looking back on what we had. The excitement. The responsibility. The challenge. The travel. The camaraderie. The friendships that last a lifetime. We miss it. We miss it a lot. I know I do.
