As someone queer who comes from two “at odds” cultures in real life, I really do wish the writer’s didn’t make it feel like an either/or choice in the dialogue. It feels like it overly simplifies an important aspect of life and whilst not the focus of the conversation for Taash, it’s still an odd way to frame that particular dialogue choice. PS still really loving watching your streams of this, can’t wait to see your thoughts on Act 3! ❤
I think it makes sense though because the Qun is an extremely strict way of life, there is no picking and choosing. There is no such thing as Non-Binary because their entire society is built on binaries. Taash would have to identify themselves as an exact role, gender and etc. with no room to change and no existing in between because that's what the Qun is, no in betweens. The reason it's a very one or the other choice for Taash is because they couldn't exist in the Qun, but they can exist outside of it.
@kindapoetic that’s a totally valid point! I think it’s just that from my experience, one side of my mixed heritage also doesn’t accept me for who I am because historically that’s the case- but in reality, I still embrace a lot of aspects of that culture and society in who I am. I think my issue is around the feeling that these decisions are positioned as an “either/or” scenario, and while it might be the case for some people, for some of us it’s important to exist and embrace our cultures even if they don’t embrace us back, if that makes sense? Because it’s a form of resistance against the “you can’t exist here” because actually I DO exist here, right now, as I am. Sorry for the long reply haha, but yeah it’s still a phenomenal story arc and I loooove Taash- this is just my thoughts relative to my own experience :)
@@Kadria_sl oh no I totally get where you're coming from. I'm queer too but cultural heritage has never really impacted me because where I'm from in South Africa, colored people/mixed race people don't really have a culture/history. But my girlfriend is chinese/British and she's had to struggle a lot with the chinese parts of her heritage because those can be quite exclusive - she's trans so her chinese relatives get really mad when she wears feminine traditional hanfu or makeup or hairstyles (or literally anything because they suck). She also really didn't like the Taash choice feeling so black and white. Sorry for the even longer reply lmao xD
@@Kadria_sl I also don't think it is entirely "embrace X and forsake all of Y", it's just "Embrace X". And it's primarily about that decision following the thought "what does she - my mother - want me to be?". You're choosing to encourage Taash to either choose their own expression and be their own person, or follow tradition and try to be who their mother expects them to be to keep her happy. It's not saying Taash can't still be proud of being Qunari.
Fun fact about the qunari. Your gender is based solely on your job. If you're good at fighting you're a man. If you're good at literally anything else you're a woman. What you're biologically born as has nothing to do with it. And there is no in between option. That's why embracing qunari culture wouldn't work for Taash.
If you played as a female warden in Origins Sten gave you a hard time about being a woman fighter. Iron Bull didnt give the Inquisitor a hard time because he was with the spy network - and was conditioned to assimilate while Sten was a solider. So Sten was very ridged and showed the general Qunari.
If anyone hasnt told you yet, and you haven't figured it out: whatever faction you didn't choose (Minrathous vs. Treviso) will have a merchant wisp in the crossroads. You can sell them items there to help them gain strength. 3 stars is max for every faction! But overall, loving how much you're enjoying this game! P. Rat being a hoe is also so funny, especially when Harding walked in on you and Taash 😅
