This felt real because it was. Zeenat Aman said herself that they were smoking and getting high on real chillum and Dev Anand had her sit down with a real group of hippies in Kathmandu during the shooting of the song. This song was pretty groundbreaking for it’s time and was a HUGE chartbuster and probably the biggest Bollywood song of all time as it continues to break barriers. For instance the song was just featured in apple’s iPhone 13 commercial. The success of this film also kick started Zeenat Aman in the industry as arguably the first glamorous diva of Bollywood (who played controversial roles rather than the typical actress playing the good girl at the time). It is even known that in the movie her role as supporting actress was so iconic that she completely outshined the lead actress, Mumtaz and won a filmfare and many accolades. You have to react to more of her!
Dev Anand sings something like this:
Understand Rama, know Krishna- wake up from your drunken stupor oh drugged revelers.
“Rama with a smile gave up every happiness and comfort (Rama gave up the throne willingly and exiled to the forest for years), while you ran away in complete fear of life’s trials.
Krishna showed the path of Karma, while you stole away from doing what is right.
The meaning of life is hard work, don’t be lazy. Don’t be a slave to drugs.

U were reading the lyrics of "Dum Maaro Dum remix " song ...which was picturized on Deepika Padukone. That is not the lyrics of the original " Dum Maaro Dum " song which you watched just now. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
To this point Zeenat was not known to the World, but after this movie’s release, she was shot to fame like you won’t believe. She retained that fame till the end of her career and beyond.

The second half of the song is very important
Zeenie baby's debut. Prem Pujari has great songs. The Beatles were also responsible for bringing together Hare Krishna and the west and drugs. He's not judging, that's his younger sister. Okay the second part of the song is preachy.
the second half is a completely different song. If you were to buy the CD, it would be two totally different tracks. Not meant to be listened to together, just in the context of the movie they come after each other. The second song just completely kills the mood lol.
Second part of the song is realty whereas the first part is just a fantasy....and virtual....

What you have read after the song is of alternated version of this song which has nothing to do with old song which you saw was the original.

Dev is saying don’t use or defame the name of God in name of drugs.

Initially when Dev Anand heard this song he refused to have it in his movie.
Reason was he knew this song will overwhelm all his song filmed on him.
Such was the potential of the song.
But reluctantly he allowed this song to be filmed and rest is history.

The whole song is about religion and karma (even Asha's Bhosle's part). Focus on the lyrics, not the melody. The song is not made for parties.
