Maybe that’s why Ian Hislop is so animated. He’s been banging this drum for more than 10 years and only now that ITV has blown a massive hole open on the story is he getting a platform on it. I can understand your thoughts. I had to give up reading Private Eye, because the blatant rampant corruption at all levels of business and finance and politics was just making me so angry, it made me feel ill.

Erm, as John says, Panorama exposed this a couple of years back. The real problem is that many among ‘the voting public’ don’t take notice until it’s in a drama. People need to stop relying solely on social media for their ‘news’ and start watching the broadcasters (who do present what’s going on) and ‘decent’ newspapers.

Private eye is just about the only publication that informs the public about their government. Many attempts have been made to silence PE and yet it’s still as dogged and hilarious as ever. We need Fujitsu Senior Managers (and Ex) charged with Computer Fraud, Fraud, Theft from Sub Postmasters, Perverting the Course of Justice, and Assault. The same charges to the PO Investigators and ALL managers above them. THIS IS SICK. The DPP, CPO and Police also need to pay. REMOVAL OF PENSIONS, both State and Company/Private should also occur.
I appreciate Hislop here so much. We disagree about a couple important things, but literally no other public figure in the UK is willing to speak plainly about this. Ian seems to be the only person who is asking the obvious follow up question. Where is the money, who stole it, when is there going to be am investigation into this? The bug was not an accounting error, the bug was that people at post office head office and at Fujitsu had access to sub post office accounting pages and their business accounts. Money went missing, that is financial crime, not just incompetence or negligence.

Lets wait until the statutory inquiry, lets wait until the Court of Appeal judgments, lets wait until the High Court has ruled, lets wait until after the criminal trials, lets wait, lets wait lets wait. Waiting is so much better than giving redress for vicitims, or punishing perjurers or asking why the legal and parliamentary system so abjectly failed to protect ordinary people.

What a sad mess. It’s obvious that someone at the PO knew something was up - with the “you are the only complainant” line - but why did they do that? As with any big software package, it would need updates, which is no big deal and is fairly easy to implement. Why wasn’t that done when the problem was revealed? Who stood to make money by NOT fixing this problem?
Well, Fujitsu was saying there was nothing wrong with the software, and it would have cost a lot of money, possibly £ millions, to hire lots of IT consultants to prove the software was causing trouble, as it wasn't everybody, as far as I can see, only 10% - 15% of users being unlucky enough to have it malfunction. So they just blamed it on the postmasters, and recovered the missing money from them by ruining their lives, as the simplest and cheapest method of dealing with it. And once they had started on this course, they were on a roller coaster they couldn't get off without dire consequences for them. So on it rolled,

However continuous improvement is normal for any large system, especially accounting, since managers are terrified of Audit Findings against the system and those who operate it. Being a Public Sector organisation may have some impact on the Audit that was required. You'd imagine that was at least what a commercial enterprise must do, but I'm not confident of that. How could a system with significant faults not have Audit Findings if that were done correctly. How would it not be an Audit Finding that there were 980 fraud investigations in progress... You would certainly expect that an IT company like Fujitsu has a large number of specialists doing testing and that every major release of the software would only be deployed after exhaustive testing. Thus Post Office would only accept the release following acceptance of the Test Report that shows the scope and results of testing. Anything less is negligent application management (ITIL). For an application of such critical function for the Post Office best practice is Automated Testing which makes it cost effective to do wide and deep testing of the business functions largely untouched by human hands. Thus credibility and repeatability is assured at best value. Building and enhancing that test set is standard best practice so should not be in question for a critical application.

Peston's persistent attempt to relabel theft and perjury and conspiracy, largely unsuccessful in the face of Hislop's passion and direct knowledge, is simply one more embodimentnof the toxic classism which drove this corruption and its coverup. Either rich people follow the same laws as everyone else, or they don't. If not, and of course we already know this is the answer, then the judicial system and legal systems MUST change, MUST be brought in line with the interests of the non rich. Ian seems to be the only person who is asking the obvious follow up question. Where is the money, who stole it, when is there going to be am investigation into this? The bug was not an accounting error, the bug was that people at post office head office and at Fujitsu had access to sub post office accounting pages and their business accounts. Money went missing, that is financial crime, not just incompetence or negligence.

Why is it that the main journals in the U.K. have avoided this issue for years and years ? Thanks to Private Eye and Ian Hislop, the truth of the matter finally moved beyond computing journals.
Lets wait until the statutory inquiry, lets wait until the Court of Appeal judgments, lets wait until the High Court has ruled, lets wait until after the criminal trials, lets wait, lets wait lets wait. Waiting is so much better than giving redress for vicitims, or punishing perjurers or asking why the legal and parliamentary system so abjectly failed to protect ordinary people.

The problem for the Tories is that they themselves have a long history of not calling out failure and corruption in their own ranks and a long history of paying unjustified pensions, severance payments and giving out gongs that are not deserved. One example, the Liz Truss severance pay, pension and awards list was a corruption of public life in full view. That is why they did not want to call out the problems in the post office. If they get money back from Fujitsu, the media and public will then say “you have acted on Fujitsu, why can’t you do the same with the PPE scandal?” Big can of Tory worms.
Good to see everyone, except Ian, laughing about this. If people remember one thing about this it's that parties of all colours think this is amusing. The whole scandal transcends parties and just demonstrates that they're all only interested in what they can get from the trough.

What a sad mess. It’s obvious that someone at the PO knew something was up - with the “you are the only complainant” line - but why did they do that? As with any big software package, it would need updates, which is no big deal and is fairly easy to implement. Why wasn’t that done when the problem was revealed? Who stood to make money by NOT fixing this problem?
Well, Fujitsu was saying there was nothing wrong with the software, and it would have cost a lot of money, possibly £ millions, to hire lots of IT consultants to prove the software was causing trouble, as it wasn't everybody, as far as I can see, only 10% - 15% of users being unlucky enough to have it malfunction. So they just blamed it on the postmasters, and recovered the missing money from them by ruining their lives, as the simplest and cheapest method of dealing with it. And once they had started on this course, they were on a roller coaster they couldn't get off without dire consequences for them. So on it rolled,
all about the 1, 2 ,3 year bonus plan and then move on.
@@edeledeledel5490 It's very suspect that only 15% of post offices had significant errors in the typical business as usual functions of the system. However continuous improvement is normal for any large system, especially accounting, since managers are terrified of Audit Findings against the system and those who operate it.
Being a Public Sector organisation may have some impact on the Audit that was required. You'd imagine that was at least what a commercial enterprise must do, but I'm not confident of that.
How could a system with significant faults not have Audit Findings if that were done correctly.
How would it not be an Audit Finding that there were 980 fraud investigations in progress...
You would certainly expect that an IT company like Fujitsu has a large number of specialists doing testing and that every major release of the software would only be deployed after exhaustive testing. Thus Post Office would only accept the release following acceptance of the Test Report that shows the scope and results of testing. Anything less is negligent application management (ITIL).
For an application of such critical function for the Post Office best practice is Automated Testing which makes it cost effective to do wide and deep testing of the business functions largely untouched by human hands. Thus credibility and repeatability is assured at best value. Building and enhancing that test set is standard best practice so should not be in question for a critical application.
Totally given up on politicians, and the corrupt system they all now represent...But now decided to subscribe to Private eye. I'm a long admirer and occasional reader, but actually now I think they're more important than ever.

Love Ian Hislop's point that although Ed Davies is being held responsible at the start of the scandal, as additional facts came out, he was followed by 12 years Tory ministers in the same role.
Ian Hislop is the ideal person to pursue the criminal organisations who have denied responsibility for years! I worked in IT and can remember the Computer Weekly articles that stated exactly what has been shown to have happened some years before Hislop got involved - but nothing was done, even when sub POs were getting sued! No organisation should be allowed to mnage, police and sue its own 'employees'!
