Wow! That servo looks really promising! It's not quite as fast as say a SC1258TG but it's damn close! Plus, the 1258 is $75 while that servo is only $27! Hell, if that only lasts 6 months that's still worth it! If only there were rebuild kits and then I would truly be sold!

On the original HPI they mounted the ESC under the spare wheel. The short course truck had it where you said it would not fit but the body mount would not be in the way for the truck body
oooo, I didnt even think of that ill have a look but it sits nice where it ism and bigger it would fit tho!
if you have a look at the HPI APACHE C1 (same car) there is a space under the spare tyre for the ESC.
I run that servo in my trx4 with tracks on and it's awesome

JX is no joke, we've been using them for a few years now on helis and cars, they are very good.
hI kev, just wanted t tell you that the esc and motor can actually take 6s.
So you have beed driving it at 2/3 of its actual speed.
We got a Frankenstein RC it definitely looks cool and I do appreciate the advice on the servo I run a sawbuck Servo in my Traxxas Slash it cost me forty bucks the one of my dad's cos 70 mine's the same speed as the original Servo I'm okay with that cuz most of the time I'm just on dirt and when I'm racing I'm on carpet so I've got a lot of roll so I don't need anything too quick but you know what this might be something that I might put into one of my other Rcs
It's definitely got potential that truck. My hobbywing 5400kv would make it fly, not a cheap motor @ around £65 but OMG it makes my 1/10 desert fox v2 a rocket and paired with a hobbywing MAX range esc is thermally protected.
It's a 2S motor but I only use 3S 🤣 but it holds up well and has never cut out due to overheating
I'm waiting Kevin to biuld a epic rc truck. That will be awesome. Something unique nobody have.

Kevin, this model was originally the HPI Apache. You can still find HPI parts for them. The ESC goes under the fake spare tire.
The definition of "dirt cheap" might be slightly different to the average Joe then it is to someone who owns a Lambo LOL
STEVO D 313 it is lmao he said with a RC car (engine (with gas)) he said dirt cheap. It is 500 euro+
Bloody right dirt cheap are the ones I use, the MG-996R - with the price of Kevin's 'dirt cheap' servo I get 6 MGs from Banggood and maybe even 8 from ebay!! Hahahha they serve me well anyways . . . . not nearly as fast but in my opinion a steering servo does not need to be very fast. Average speed is more than enough, especially if you're not racing. And if its for a buggy and not a crawler, no need for loads of torque either.
well it is cheap for hobby grade rc's but not that cheap

Hi, new to RC. That link says the servo’s range of movement is 180deg. I take it that’s 90 each way. Is that a bit much in a car? Or do you need to reduce its motion?

Hey kev, i bought the 36kg JX servo that you recommended for the 1/8 scale Kraton, but the slop in the servo is just atrocious, and its stupidly weak, can barely turn the tires, when they are on the ground. :/

The 46kg jx is a beast! Cheaper than a savox, and stronger! That's all I run my rigs

Sure looks similar to some of the Arrma 1/8 scale chassis. Like the 6sBLX Typhon for one example. The chassis braces, shock towers and shock cap protection. But I could be mistaken too. Wouldn't be the first time! Lol
