Only thing I don't agree with is when you said it's not your opponent's job to catch your cheats. Any player should be making sure at all times that their opponent isn't cheating.

Eric Brian Brewster ringer cards? You leave materials on field until you attempt to summon the monster. 4-15 turns in one game is a good amount of turns you have 40 minutes to play a best of 3(2-3 games) match. After game 1 and 2 you have options to side deck cards to help to help your matchup

It actually is his opponents job to catch the illegal plays. Both players are required to catch illegal plays.
The judge is there to mediate if the players disagree on rulings, as well as to ensure that they actually follow the rules.
It is the responsibility of both players to ensure that the game state is correct.
if it isn't both player's responsibility to catch illegal plays(along with the judges) then who is catching them during regular play without a judge? How is that condoning cheating?
Robert then why are they making sure people's card remain in the same zone....cimo's game they continually made sure his cards are in the same zone and didn't move them....it's the judges job just as much as the players
Read the post on reddit. The Judge coordinator said that the judges at the table are basically a stream crew and are not there for judging purposes. If they happen to do that, that is great, but it isn't why they are there. Their main job is to make sure that the handlists are updated and that the area being viewed is good for the stream.
Then what are rules for??? I understand where you're coming from when it comes to a casual game with a friend or a locals tourney, but a YCS? on stream? can't make sure a sanctioned feature match is played correctly for the stream? Jesus. It's like a basketball game where the refs aren t directly involved in the game looking for infractions. yeah in a casual setting you can cheat a bit in basketball, but not in the NBA, not on camera.

no but if someone cheats and the other player allows gamestate to progress then the player who cheated cant be held accountable. you can always pause gamestate and ask a judge if something doesnt seem right
actully thats incorrect Depending on the " cheat " and how it affected the game you can still be accountable also if you made lot of small ones you'll likely get a game lost

it's because of the commentators that a large number of these situations arise, judges are under pressure to keep the commentary team informed of all the information it becomes hard to do both.
Will there's two sets of judges in this case on stream judges have to update cards on the iPad in a timely manner (I don't know how it all works so as easy as it sounds it is likely harder) and update commentators (there has to be a way that it doesn't divulge information to either player) if they catch an illegal attempt they will follow through with policy documents/rulings but it is not the primary job

If they both illegally activated a spell card under fragrance I don't think they were intentionally trying to cheat. their just not paying attention
If you fucking play Anti Spell Fragance you should at least pay attention to your own game.

If the spells were activated in response to ASF, does it start a chain? Because then, ASF would be chain link 1 and only be effective after the 2 spells resolved.

serious question. If anti spell fragrance gets flipped up, then activate the quick play magic card, then the other guy activates a quick play magic card...doesnt it activate as a chain?? so 1 quick play works, the first qick play works, then anti spell fragrence gets activated??
john dupee in that scenario anti spell does not matter. anti spell doesn't make any difference until it has been flipped, resolved, and the opposing player starts setting his spells. cards already set before anti spell resolves are unaffected by it. if on your turn, your opponent activates anti spell, you can chain MST to it. For anti spell to prevent MST from activating from the hand, it must already be resolved. if you don't have MST when anti spell is activated then you can chain any quick play spells to it, but must set after it has resolved.
Im confused my body as a shield is quickplay and it only has to be down for your turn on your opponents turn it's usable

I thought you could activate 'My body as a Shield' the turn after 'Anti-spell Fragrance' is activated, as it's a quick play and it wasn't activated the turn it was set face down?
Just out of curiosity why is the first one illegal? Pot of duality excavates the cards first then one is added from the grave to the hand while the other two are shuffled back into the deck correct?

Its a good point and G been a subscriber for years and this is what has been going on lately with judges. I have been trying to increase the quality of judges in my area on ethic and also how to take on a tourney. To keep a clean environment and also make a healthy environment and good catch btw.
Is it just me or was this game cut from the stream? I just skipped ahead to this point in Konami's video and after the first game it abruptly cuts to the next pair of players.

The funny thing is Anti-spell fragrance doesn't say the spell card for the whole turn to activate it . It says for you to activate a spell card you have to set it first meaning everything but quickplay spells are usable first turn
At some events anti-spell fragrance is ruled that you can activate spells any time after the turn they are set, and don't necessarily have to wait until your own next turn. I would assume that at a YCS it is ruled that you have to wait until your turn, but if you see this play at a regional or something and nobody says anything it might be because the head judge rules anti-spell the other way. Just worth mentioning
if the spell card is set before anti-spell fragrance you can use it right away, but if you set it while anti-spell is already activated than you have to wait

In Mexico, this weekend we have a yugioh event. I believe is a regional. both players forgot the effect of xx-saber invoker of destroy the summon monster during the end phase. two turns later the judge notice this mistake and give both of them a warning because they didn't say or do anything. And clearly they didn't do a thing because they forgot this last effect.

this is an ode to how complicated the game has become, there's so much information to take in now that even 2 judges are overwhelmed. I can't wait for the link monsters era.
Pot of Duality Excavates. This was found in YGO Wiki
Excavate (めくる Mekuru, lit. "flip" or "turn over")
When a card says to "excavate" cards from your Deck, you reveal those cards to both players. Cards that are being excavated are still treated as "BEING IN THE DECK" until sent elsewhere by the card instructions. "Excavate" and "reveal" are not always the same thing. Some cards will "reveal" cards but not "excavate" them. Unless a card specifically refers to "excavating", then it doesn’t excavate.[1]
So yeah. Mistake was a Mistake.
This is one of the big reasons why i quit the game a couple of years ago.

I thought duality works around raiyo because it draws it doesn't add. Add is interpreted as something like gk commandant adding necrovalley to hand. But drawing 3 and putting back 2 is diff.

Like I said that was just the way I was always told, I'll be the first to admit I'm not the best or knowledgable of players (i run a gravekeeper deck still) I was more asking a question than making a statement. People got me with this a lot. Thanks for clarifying :)
same thing happened so often in YCS Sydney. chat called out multiple missplays, and it took minutes for the "judges" too notice the chat. and as the result of the judges even gave someone a game loss because the game had extended so far past the miss play that the game state was unfixable. so BS and judges were just not on the ball.
when that dude compulsed the rafflesia and the judges didn't notice til it was too late. I cringed.
the spell card thing once the turn passes to the opponent they are active so as of mattews turn they are active other than that yea ur right also yea it is the players job to see if the play is illegal or not
for the anti spell fragrance chest, Kurt is okay because he set it first. Matthew however did do an illegal play because he did not set it first
that was actually a triple misplay on Kurts side, because My Body As A Shield is a quickplay and you cannot even activate quickplays if they are set that turn because they get treated as traps
full turn set is only counting your own turn only when your turn ends it counts a one full turn just like how swords oh light and deck devi counts a turn hope this helps

This reminds me of a duel I had on DN before it was taken down. I was dueling some guy who was saying that Buster Bladers destroyer and Buster Dragons effects where continues since they said once per turn and said my monsters attacks and effects where negated and so on.
I just left the duel cause even after explaining how their effects are once per THEIR turn and not mine they denied it and said for me to stop being more of a noob than I already was.

Erik Ramirez yeah G you got Kurts My body wrong. He set it on his first turn then passed. Bears eff is activated on Gibson turn in which my body is activated and set for a full turn already. Everything else is spot on though 👌

technically after ep his turn was over with counts as a full turn so it could be activated so the judges weren't too stupid but they were stupid enough
To be fair, Anti-Spell reads "Both players must Set Spell Cards before activating them, and cannot activate them until thier next turn." If you take that at face value then a card that was set and waited on till the next turn would still be following that rule. Id call that move fair play, activating from hand however is the problem.

some judges are good smart and chill, so im not speaking on all of their behalf's, but alot of them dont know how anti-spell works. it says on the card spells must be set until the controllers next turn, and its been ruled where you can flip them on your opponents end phase. twin twister before they can chain the d barrier

i think the judges didnt realize that you have to set a full turn to activate spells, and thought you only had to set it and be able to activate quick plays on opponent's turn. that's why they didnt punish the stun guy.

They are most of the time, looking at the tablets more often than not.
I knew back when I was 14 that the biggest problem with this game is players either knowingly breaking rules or just simply they don't understand the mechanics of the game or the cards properly.

I've seen the Kurt in locals a lot. The only way they could have got around Anti-spell was by chaining because it hasn't resolved yet. If the judge gave the guy on the right a warning let's say it's the same chain-link then it would be complete BS because Anti-Spell hasn't resolved yet. Like if my opponent were to play Anti-Spell I can chain MST and get rid of that problem. Yes, you're right about the Pot Of Duality illegal play. I'm just going off what I know from the judge at locals and the people there have taught me

I've made illegal plays before like everyone has unintentionally done, and when I've realized I've scooped the game since I couldn't allow myself to be a prick and pretend nothing happened.

James Sartorius Excavating just means (basically) looking at the top card(s) of the Deck. Duality would still be adding from Deck to hand.
