  • BremSter solves "Casting About in the Dark" by FullDeck and Missing a Few Cards.
    A Fog Sudoku using the Consecutive Pairs and Pointing Thermos constraints.
    Solve in Sven's SudokuPad WebApp: sudokupad.app/...
    This puzzle has been published to Logic Masters Germany: logic-masters....
    📋 Puzzle Rules:
    • Standard sudoku rules apply: The digits 1 through 9 appear in every row, column, and box.
    • Fog: Part of the grid is covered with fog. As correct digits are placed, the fog will clear from cells surrounding the correct digit, revealing additional clues. There is always enough information in the revealed portion of the grid to place another correct digit without guessing. Digits can be placed within the fog.
    • Consecutive Dots: Digits separated by a white dot are consecutive. Not all possible dots are necessarily given.
    • Pointing Thermometers: Digits along thermometers must strictly increase from bulb to tip. In addition, the digit in the bulb of the thermometer appears X cells away from the tip, in the direction pointed to by the tip, where X is the value in the tip of the thermometer.

    I really love this! I often struggle with FD/MAFC puzzles, but once I got over freaking out and started thinking, it flowed very smoothly for me. I finished just over 27 minutes, which makes me quite happy. Thanks for sharing this!

    A truly elegant puzzle. What I love about the pointing constraint is that short thermos are normally not very restrictive in terms of yielding a break in. But the additional pointing constraint really makes for an approachable puzzle. Beautiful job at setting this one FD & MAFC, and nice solve Bremster. 😊

      7:40 Now imagine pointing thermos on a thorus, where lines and columns wrap. That would be something for the more nefarious among creators.

    Few things are certain, but a FullDeck and Missing a Few Cards puzzle is almost guaranteed to be a good time.
    And, yeah, "guessing" at fog sudoku is like cheating at solitaire.

    I did not get the pointing rule so I had to watch your solve, and I still dont understand how that rule is valid. It points to a different thermo, which is not how the rules read to me. What did I miss?

    You have done this puzzle before you streamed it. I can tell by how you kept on highlighting between box 8 and 7. They could have been separate thermo's but you never once took that into account.

    • @BremSterPuzzles
      @BremSterPuzzles  หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      This was a blind solve. I don’t always do blind solves, but I generally call out when I have solved a puzzle before, like in all the pack videos.
      If you don’t like the content, you are welcome to check out some of the other channels that provide sudoku content.
      Update: I was just rewatching (I recorded this about a week ago), at 16:20 I commented that I didn't think the thermos could be connected, and a couple of minutes before that I was looking at how the thermo in box 8 would work if the bulb was closer to box 9.
      I assume you just skipped most of the video.

    2:25 I am a bit disappointed in you from for doing this rant. A strategy that breaks a game by making it to easy should never be framed as "cheating" but as a problem with the gamedesigne. As someone who comes form board gaming I would have expected you to stick to that philosophy.

    • @57thorns
      @57thorns หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Does not change the fact that you are completely wrong. The rules state that no guessing is required, there is no game in the world that can read your mind.
      Of course, no one can prevent you from cheating at solitaire by looking at the cards coming up (unless you play on a computer), but where is the fun and challenge in that?
      I would definitely not want to play board games with someone that has such a lax view on cheating and breaking the rules.
      Now _that_ is a rant.

    • @stevewithaq
      @stevewithaq หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      So choosing to not follow the rules is not cheating, but a weakness in the game design?
      The rules say no guessing.
      I'd expect someone who comes from board gaming to know that every game depends on voluntary acceptance of the rules.
