@Tab Valentino Just mute it as there's no narration, everything is written and shown. No need fo rsound if you don't want it. I agree that it's annoying music but that's why I mute it. Excellent video otherwise.
looks like the tipped pellets win out over the other expanding pellets, in that they disperse their energy into the gel more quickly... today i learned. also, didn't know those tips were an aerodynamic choice, thought they were designed for initial penetration. the learning and the fun never stops
Of the pellets that I've tested personally, the destroyers are probably my favorite lead pellet and I would definitely trust them for small pest control. They also function really well when fired backwards, they stay accurate (at least at subsonic speeds) and at the correct impact velocity will expand out to 0.29inch within the distance of a grape
This is really not a "good" result for anything you are really going to use an airrifle for. The best result was the Blue Flame. Very low penetration and a lot of expansion means any small animal will drop dead immediately because all the energy is tranferred into it. The massive penetration of the Destroyer means the pellet will pass right through any small game or at least cause a slower death. @Tiny Ballistics Lab You should do some hydrostatic shock comparison shoots with these same pellets. To do that shoot at water balloons and film it at high speed to see how far the spray goes. Or film the ballistic gel at high speed to see the expansion of the "wound channel". Also if you want the lowest penetration and maximum energy transfer, take the tip out of any of the tipped pellets, score the inside of the cavity in at least 4 places (like the H&N Baracuda Hunter Extreme)and shoot it without the tip. This will allow them to open up more easily and might even lead to "petals" breaking off and doing even more tissue damage.
Very Interesting. I think the surface area is more important to see rather than the Diameter. It will help especially with the one that was destroyed. Would also like to see Velocity and weight values. (And to save me the hassle, the KE and KE/surface area final, then divide that into the distance penetrated) JUst curious.
I can't answer all that but the red fire On squirrel it holds together good but doesn't over penetrate. I was using crosman premier hollow points with pass through and running squirrels. Red fire deposits alot of energy.
love your channel just found it and I have seen someone else do a similar test and the crosman destroyer did very good also please keep the great video coming
Interesting of course, but none of these tests take into account that the pellets usually first have to pass a hard barrier; bone and several layers of clothes. How would the picture look like when you put a plywood board of half an inch in front of the gel? A normal pellet would pass the wood and enter the gel. But would an expanding pellet pass, would only that tiny tip pass, or neither one?
Great information. To further the testing however we must also evaluate accuracy. However, no amount of penetration or expansion means a thing unless the pellet connects where it needs to. We all need to do that individually. Keep trying until theres at least one that is accurate enough for the task at hand. Then, test those for the terminal ballistics you wish to achieve. One final point is that expansion means less on the smallest game if thats what the target is. If a pellet that takes 6 inches to expand, the effect will mean little when passing through a small animal measuring only an inch or two deep. If its larger game such as a rabbit for example, then expansion can make more of a difference.
There are different degrees of expansion leading up to the end result. So it seems to me that this fact would make a difference on a smaller target animal.
Try the gammo pellets with a steel bb in them. I’ve always had the best luck killing small game with those. A pellet doesn’t have the energy or velocity to create hydrostatic tearing and trauma, so imo you want to pick the deepest penetration possible. I’ve never recovered a expanding type pellet out of a small game animal that expanded at all. Those things are heavy too they will still punch through a soup can at 60-70 yards and I can hold a 4 inch group with them to 85-90.
I recently ordered a pellet revolver. I want to find a round that I can use so that when I target shoot against cans filled with water, or bottles or even a B.B./pellet catcher box I want minimum penetration with good accuracy to that I don’t have to worry about over penetration. Any ideas? I was thinking crosman wadcutters or even hollowpoints
Damn that Crossman destroyer forms Perfect inside out and keeps going!I never thought the test would turn out like that!!I have the predator poly mags that look like the Gamo red flame, but have not tested them yet!Thankyou for the realy nice test!
the best .177 pellets for expending energy on its intended target are H&N barracuda hunter extreme, H&N Crow magnum, and predator polymags,by far the best pellets for hunting and destroying skeletal tissue
Your gun, This .177 caliber rifle delivers velocities up to 1400 fps (alloy) / 1150 fps (lead) and up to 26 fpe and includes the CBT™ trigger for a predictable shot, is a hard hitter. 200 bucks buys power.
Try firing percussion caps or the same substance that’s inside the caps, put into the front end of the pellets like those kvintnor blik pellets from Russia 🇷🇺,.
I glued percussion caps on my.22 & .25 caliber pellets and, if y’all ever wanna scare the fur off some congregating cats 🐈 just place one on a hard target 🎯 next to them and watch the fur fly.
Anyone who says pellets rifles cannot kill you, watch this video. I have no doubt in my mind those would pass right through your mass center, if it were to not hit any bone.
If anyone wants to know how far a pellet will go in a human body, the answer is about 3 inches. I got shot by a pellet gun point blank range (roughly 800fps pellet gun) at the angle it went into me at the middle left abdominal muscle, traveled roughly 3 inches and stopped right over my ribs. Doctors never took it out and this happened when I was 15 so I've been walking around with a pellet in my body for the past 9 years. Doesnt hurt and I dont ever feel it being there. Never think about it so I just leave it be lol oh and It didnt hurt that bad, it was like a little kid punched me as hard as they could and then it kinda felt like rug burn but inside by body, and there was blood which made everything all warm 😂 overall I would not recommend getting shot by a pellet gun.
@@joewoodchuck3824 I've never done it myself, and off the top of my head I can't think of anyone that has tested it on TH-cam. It seems like it could work, maybe with a steel bb or B size shot added to be pushed into the cavity with the fluid
@@dELTA13579111315 Maybe someone will come forth with outcomes of both ideas. The bb idea seems especially interest except the extra weight will surely reduce velocity. The problem with that is energy goes up or down (depending on the experiment) with the square of velocity, which will at the very least affect external ballistics and thus trajectory. This experiment might best be done with the Chairgun app and a chronograph, but some data could still be extracted without one.
I would say Blue, Flame a clear winner. Very predictable expansion and lowest penetration meaning all its, shock energy potential was transferred into the target. That said, on a Rabbit it might not penetrate deeply enough to reach vital organs. Awesome for head, shots though.
