I went to this show too, but in Melbourne, just brilliant! It was a 1992 revival performed in the round at Rod Laver Arena (Australian Open Tennis venue) and was more like a rock concert as you can see the way they move around the central stage. Jon Stevens, best Judas ever.❤
@@lesliedavis2185 Really? Did not know they were touring. The guitarist at the start of this was the lead guitar for Noiseworks, Stuart Fraser, so sad he no longer around. I liked Noiseworks and saw them live a number of times in late 80's and around 1990 but I do not think I could do it to myself to see them without Stuart Fraser still around. His guitar work was a major factor of that band sound. Someone else filling in for the guitar role he played would just feel too much of a hole for me. But if they are happy playing together with those still alive I am happy for those guys. The harmonica sound in this, did make me think it was another member of Noiseworks, Maybe it was Justin Stanley.
Jon Stevens aka Judas in this production was such a fabulous choice in the role. I always loved his voice, which I first discovered in his band Noiseworks. He is originally from New Zealand. He has been touring with Kate Ceberano, who was also in this production as Mary in the 90’s. On another note a new production is now performing in Australia. Jimmy Barnes daughter, Mahalia is playing Mary.
The original 1970 concept album by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice featured Ian Gillan, of Deep Purple, as the voice of Jesus. He was amazing. They wanted him in the movie, but he had committed to too many tour dates with his band.
Farnhams band has and will always be the best... Pretty sure David (Hirschfelder- the keyboardist/MD in this clip and many more )had a hand in the arrangements for the Australian production... He left the band to go to do Movie scores in the US.... Chong Lim replaced him as the musical director for the band. They are all more like a family than just a group of musicians...
OMG, with all due respect, f*** amazing! What an incredible performance, the arrangement, the production, the range - Jon wasn't that powerful in his early days! I really wish I'd been there, Kate, Jon & John what a team! Aussies! 💚💛👍
Those loud, snapping sounds you heard in the opening as each actor turned around represent the 39 lashes Jesus received on orders from Pontius Pilate. That scene is excruciating.
JSC is currently having a world-wide resurgence, with the stage show opening in cities all around the world. I've just seen the Aussie version in Sydney version, stil amazing. Such great lyrics & music.Jon Stevens is excellent in this one & is still performing & still has a great voice & show.
Jane here. I'm delighted you enjoyed this. Jon Stevens is great here, portraying an angry person, who Judas is for this show. I also love how you bought up John Farnham stillness 😊. He didn't even need to sing here! For fans of this production, don't worry, I mention how many nights this production went for 😊. I've put in requests per weekend, not every few days (so there isn't a bombardment of this production in there TH-cam channel and for money reasons). So far, I've put in, 'Pilate’s Dream & The Temple' (hopefully they will accept 2 songs together 🤞), 'This Jesus Must Die', 'Simon Zealotes & Poor Jerusalem', 'Everything's Alright' (from this concert, not Hey Hey its Saturday, which has already been requested), and going to request in 'Damned for all time/Blood Money' today 😊.
There is no way to convey how AMAZING this production was...I saw it a couple of times. It was done in arenas because it was more ROCK than Opera...especially with the big Aussie acts involved.
I bought the album when it came out and still have it. I have kept my record player that I bought in the seventies so I can play my collection of about 500 albums. I love this recording. Amazing.
I was fortunate enough to see this production of JCS, and it was amazing. I see you've reacted to Jon's band, Noiseworks, before, but it's been a couple of years. Perhaps check out their song No Lies for a refresher.
The music was composed by Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber, who also wrote many other hit Broadway musicals, including "Phantom of the Opera" and "Cats." You really need to see the JCS movie, and maybe react to it.
Thamnk you guys. Amazing. I saw the 1973 film when it first come out. Ted Neely who was Jesus was amazing. I have the dvd from the film. You have to check it out. Thanks again!
This is good, but I still favor the movie version, which is musically just as good, plus you get to watch the story play out. The Judas in the movie sounded just as good, if not better. I also had the album after seeing the movie and still love it!
Hi. Jane here. Sorry, Travis and Suzi, I'm going to promote another TH-cam channel (!) Huge Farnham fan, @AussieDebb got TH-cam reactors 'Teacher Paul Reacts' to react to the full footage of Act 1 and Act 2. Just for any fans who want to see the full production reacted. I wouldn't be able to pay for 40 minutes in one go. They do, however, talk over the show, if you don't mind that. I like how Travis and Suzi here paused when they wanted to discuss it 😊.
You are infor a treat if you do more of this show, it includes John Farnham - Jesus Kate Ceberano - Mary Magdalene Jon Stevens - Judas Angry Anderson - Herod John Waters - Pontius Pilate Russell Morris - Simon Zealotes Guy Taylor - Annas David Gould - Caiaphas Musical Director - David Hirschfelder

I love Jon Stevens. He has such a haunting, I don't know what, voice. His band Noiseworks were incredible also Luv you two also. ❤
Saw Noiseworks live last sunday
@@lesliedavis2185 You lucky girl 😃

The depth and intensity and tone in John Steve’s voice are incredible 😊just wow just love him and John Farnham both incredible 😊
I even went to this production in Sydney. Jon is still performing and he is in his 60s still a hunk he was born in NZ

Original Aus production had John English as Judas. Absolutely mind blowing performance. Wish there was video of it.
I wish some reactors would just give Jon a try, especially his song, She Was Real.
All 3 John's are fantastic!
Love this whole production...it lifted a great show into the stratosphere

More songs from this production to come 😊. Travis and Suzi are one month behind with requests, so I've already paid for a few more. Still on Act 1.
@selinacastelow2514 I can't wait, thanks! 💕
I was there. Omg. ❤
You must have had a great time 😊. I love around 7:55, you can hear someone yell out, "Go Jon," or "Go John!" 😅

That’s great to hear, I’ve always felt devastated for him after all that business back in 2015, no-one deserves that.

Saw this show in Brisbane, 1992.
♥♥♥
If you have John Farnham playing Jesus you need a strong cast to keep up! Enjoy the rest of the Aussie talent in this production.
Definitely. One of the reasons I love this production is that it's full of well known singers, but they are really excellent singers.
Highly recommend to movie from the 70's which can't be touched. No Stevens or Farnham who are OK but the movie cast will blow you away.

What city was this performance in?
You are infor a treat if you do more of this show, it includes

Kate Ceberano - Mary Magdalene
Jon Stevens - Judas
Angry Anderson - Herod
John Waters - Pontius Pilate
Russell Morris - Simon Zealotes
Guy Taylor - Annas
David Gould - Caiaphas
Musical Director - David Hirschfelder
Thank you :) I wasn't sure who played the role of Annas :) a few more songs to come per around 7 days.
