That's not the point... it's fiction afterall, not to be snarky. BUT this moment is all about telling a story. As an audience, we're witness to a moment where the main character is forced to make a choice that it's important he'll regret. He needs to regret it, or we'll have no movie.
@@Derek-h6s5x But it needs to be rooted in some logic as well. Why would you “regret” a decision that would have made no change to the outcome? This is called bad writing
To truly grasp how monumental Apollo's death was to Rocky, you have had to watch all the other movies before IV. It really shows how the two went from not knowing each other, to determined to beat the other one to prove their worth, to becoming best friends. Just watching IV doesn't show you the full arc of Rocky and Apollo's characters. With that being said, IV has always been my favorite just because of the connection Rocky and Apollo had and what Drago did to break the connection. Plus, it's easily the best soundtrack of all the movies.
What makes me smile is no one actually blames the ref, who should have stopped the fight in the first round and multiple times in the second. Ref is in there to protect the fighters, too.
I love these reaction videos, but how in the world are classics like this being watched for the first time by so many people? Shame on y'all parents....SHHHAAAAAAAAAAME!
Movies just aren't as big a thing for younger people these days as they were for us older generations. Social Media and things like TH-cam and TikTok are pretty much replacing older forms of entertainment which is sad to see. However, there's always going to be folks, no matter what age they are, who eventually discover all these classic movies.
It's hard for anyone who hasn't been a professional fighter to understand why you'd want to go back out for another round after nearly being killed the first round. Sometimes they just have that "win or die trying" attitude. Apollo had that and I think Rocky understood it. That's why he didn't throw the towel in. Mickey wanted to stop the fight several times in his matches against Creed. But Rocky wanted to keep going. It's just a different kind of mind set.
The thing is, Rocky has been there too and asked for the same (to Mick when fighting Apollo, to not stop the fight no matter what). I think he was going to throw the towel anyway, but he hesitated for too long (and he did hesitate, he grabbed the towel after all). As a fighter, he understood Apollo, and that messed with his judgment here. PS: anyway, I don’t think throwing the towel would have made a difference. Drago was on beast mode, he would have killed Apollo even with the police and army entering the ring. He was just a scream away from turning Super Saiyan.
I was 18 when this movie aired. To understand the significance of "If he dies, he dies" at the time, you have to understand that Russia and the 'Iron Curtain' was considered the ultimate threat to the US and the rest of the Western World. It was more about cold war propaganda of the time towards Russia being this cruel and lifeless enemy that held its populace under siege and wanted nothing more than to defeat the West and Freedom. That common propaganda was there to get the people of the US going on a campaign of patriotism and hate towards cold war Russia. Even other propagandic commercials of the day were poking fun on what runway modeling of cold war soviet union was like. 'Evening Vear, Day Vear....' with some heavy set stumpy woman holding a flashlight while wearing an elderly woman dress gracing the runway. There was a lot of tension during this period, but it passed, as its people were suffering way to much in Russia, then the wall came down without firing a single bullet in hostility. From 80's to 90's happy days were here again.

Even if Rocky had thrown the towel, I really doubt Drago would have even acknowledged it, let alone relent
That's true, it would have had to be in between rounds
Especially considering Drago shoved the ref away and went back to his assault.

I never thought about that, but you’re absolutely right that Drago would not have cared about the towel being thrown.

This is what us GenX folks expected in the Tyson vs Paul fight. The script for that one went a different direction.
Or atleast somewhat like Rocky 6
Rest in Peace Carl Weathers
Stallone was hospitalized the day he asked Dolph Lundgren to stop going easy on him.😂
That dog looked at him like " man not this s*** again..."
Lol😅😂
Carl Weathers acted Appollos demise very well. Especially the twitching bit on the ground.
Apollo was my favorite character in the series. And I had to watch him die twice in my lifetime. RIP, Carl Weathers.
At its core, this is the Cold War when the film came out right before the Berlin Wall came down. Strong movie
Sadly, Apollo and Rocky were ride or dies, forged in combat, before ride or die was a thing.
"If he dies, he dies," is a hard line indeed, perhaps the hardest.
When the ref tried to break it up, Drago threw him off. You can't do that!
No doubt about it, i would've thrown in the towel, I may lose a friend, but he'd be alive
Me when i pour my friend another drink
When that one dude said throw the damn towel real high pitched, and his dog turned around like dude WTF, was hilarious 😂

I would have thrown the DAMN Towel! Apollo would have been Angry with me. But at least he would have been Alive to Hold a Grudge!
The best thing about this scene is how goddamned silly it is.

Duke yelling THROW THE DAMN TOWEL would later become one of the biggest memes
My friend would've hated me, but, I would've threw in that damn towel!

Apollo's manager had a throw in the towel not Apollo's friend. It was up to the manager

And that's why rocky climbed a mountain.
7:40 it was an expedition alright 😆
Watching the newer version of the film
Where was the ref? They're supposed to stop this kind of thing from happening.
Drago pushed the ref. Drago was out to kill.
More people need to react to Cinderella Man
What's that?
