i see a lot of ppl saying they miss matt tong and i totally understand he brought a lot of great energy to the live performances. i was rly sad when he left bc i don't think they could ever find someone who had that chemistry and energy. but one thing i will say is this new drummer is infinitely more on point with tempo and tempo was always my sole criticism of matt when it came to live performances.
I just recently watched their concert in Mexico with the new girl drummer. This is their finale song. For some reason i cannot explain, i miss Matt Tong on that drummer's throne. This is crazy ultra high energy performance by Bloc Party and the best song imho in the indieworld. Thanks BBC!

i love louise as a drummer, she’s amazing but that ain’t the time to praise her. i play drums myself and this modern love is one of the few songs from silent alarm i can play. her playing stuff like the pioneers, helicopter and like eating glass is far more impressive than that smooth, but simple drum fill

Backing vocals were great, I don't get what you people are on about. If I saw Bloc Party live I'd like to see them playing their songs differently like remixes and alternative versions of tracks. I think it makes it more fun and unique. Granted, Bloc Party aren't the type of band that need to change their sound but when they remix songs in live performances it always sounds fucking sick like that Kreuzberg remix. They're like Radiohead in that they can change their sound live and add to an existing song. Backing vocals were underutilized here though.

I think she's a bit slow on the drums compared to Matt. It doesn't have the groove I remember and it doesn't help that Russell is using a flat sounding strat instead of his telecaster. Bass is almost impossible to hear, so not gonna say much about that. Kele's fine, nothing special, but the backing-vocals was a weird choice. They're still good, but they've seen better days than this performance. Still looking forward to see them summer 2016, but girl on drums needs to pick it up, Russell needs his tele back and the bass needs to be cranked so it can be heard.

Unfortunately this album was recorded with just Russell and Kele. Justin and Louise were recruited so bloc party could go back on the road :(
