Yah the contrast and black look fantastic on that 3800. They really look black, the top and bottom bars dont even appear much at all as they should. Great video comparison.
Doesn't the room affect contrast more than the projector's spec? You have the ideal room setting to increase contrast. But if you put this projector in a white room the contrast would be worse than the older 2350 projector in your theater room. I notice that in my house. My theater has dark purple walls and a black ceiling (and an Epson from 2009). My bedroom has light colors and a pulldown screen. Despite having a newer pj with better specs it just can't compare to the old projector in my theater, simply because of the room itself.
@@chrisduncan3943 contrast on each of these is not the best , the 3800 to me performs well even with dark paint. I think Dark Grey works best for these. My room used to be white and dark is def the way to go !

After some time with this projector, I suggest to set projector setting to high and use bright cinema at the default setting, until break in period of 200 hours has set in... so far switching between bright cinema and natural setting seem to be the best for movie watching (especially 4k blurays)

What about the fan noise is it distracting? Bought the benq ht3560 and I think to return it because of that…and the blacks not as great. Would this epson be a better choise?
The fan noise is reasonable, especially if you use the Eco mode. I like to watch my content loud, so the fan noise was never an issue for me. It is 32 dcb on quiet mode and 36 regular mode. Hope this helps!!

Hey, as an added note. I did upgrade to 3800 because best buy had a pricing error at 1399 (which is same proce as 3200) I wanted the higher contrast ratio, that's the main reason I chose the 3800 over the 2350.
@FernandoCandelario wish I could have gotten mine at that price. Paid 1599 over 2yrs ago and it's still selling at that price range. This only possible because people still buying it. I tried the 4010 model took it back, cause to big.
Ive heard great things about the benq 2060, black levels can be comparable especially at the current price of $949, for the price difference i think you should have a good time with it. It is 1080p and decent contrast ratio at 500000 to 1, which is the same as Epson 3800, and 30000 lamp hours is fantastic! Go for it!
