In my experience with my older Home Cinema 2000, which is similar to this one, I get 4500 hours out of the bulb before it gets uncomfortably dim, which has worked out to every 2 years. I recommend people only buy genuine Epson bulbs. Yeah it's $100 or more, but you'll get a lot more life out of them than the knock offs. I'm looking at the 3800 or 4010 as a possible replacement. I've been so happy with my Epson I don't really want to try other brands or DLP.
Replaced a Optoma HD141x with this one, didn't need the extra connections or built in speakers the 3800 had. Huge upgrade, the enhanced pixels resolution actually removed some notable sparkle i was getting from our high contrast Hi gain screen. Picture is very sharp, beautiful colors. Very happy with this purchase. Plenty bright for light controlled basement whe, but we prefer to have ceiling rope lighting full time and its plenty on Bright Cinema mode/Medium lamp :)
Plz help me how can I get the sound out of my projector I don’t see a aux can I use usb and use a Bluetooth transmitter to get the sound out plz reply back
@@CandidTechTV if I get a usb transmitter if I hook it up to my usb would I still get my sound out to my Bluetooth speakers I don’t see a aux in the back of my projector plz help me out
My question is why do projectors come with speakers at all? HDMI handles audio and video, does it not? I run one HDMI from my receiver to my projector and that's it. Sound.
It's going to be less, but probably not a HUGE difference. It basically pixel shifts to make the image look sharper. You just have to watch true 4k content from your streaming services to get the most out of this projector, otherwise it will still look like regular 1080p footage.
@@CandidTechTV thanks. Have you seen the 3200 vs the 3800? Any big difference? Or this 3200 vs a optoma u40 or 35 or 30? Those are the ones I'm looking at

Sorry for the second question, but I was also wondering if you ever tried the 3200 on a grey screen and if the difference is noticeable with black levels and contrast? Thank you again!
Thank you for the great review! Which tripod mount did you choose to support the 3200 in your video? Thank you for your assistance and for making decisions a little easier.
Hi; Are you satisfied with this device? I'm thinking of buying it too, but the contrast is very low compared to the 7100 model, will it satisfy the user or is it worth paying the difference and buying the 7100?
Candid Tech TV yeah I’m struggling to know which I should upgrade to. I currently have my first projector and I’ve had it for about 5 years. It’s an Epson 2030 with 1080p. I’m wanting to upgrade to 4K, but not sure which route to take. I see there’s the Epson 3800 is $1500 on amazon new. I found an Epson 5040ub refurbished on eBay for $1200. Then there’s the new UHD30 from Optoma which appears to be good too. Never had DLP before, so don’t know how the differences really look but yeah. I was also worried that having to manually input the keystone correction might be a problem for the 3800. What are your thoughts?
@@tbrick4756 First off, don't use Keystone correction! It effects video quality. Use Lens Shift, it doesn't and a huge benefit of the Epson's is that they have a ton of zoom and Lens Shift. Most the DLP projectors have very little adjustment range. Just make sure you mount your projector with the lens exactly in front of your screen so it is easy to lens shift it and zoom it to fill you screen. Keystone is only used if you couldn't get it mounted in front of your screen and the picture is not square and for example, wider at the top and narrow at the bottom. Avoid that. It's a bummer we can't all touch, feel, and lift the different brands of projectors! Not many stores offer that, if any! Epson would sell a ton more projectors because you CAN FEEL THE QUALITY! That UHD30 probably weighs under 10 lbs. I've heard many people say they are disappointed they spent close to $1500 on a DLP Optoma, and it feels cheap and like a toy. So, light and plastic feeling. It's the quality they put into it. Epson's, and the 3200 is a light and small Epson, are so much bigger and feel very ROBUST and SOLID! I too have had an Epson 1080P projector for several years. I've replaced the bulb several times, and my new one will be here in a few days to replace it again. I got well over 3200 hours out of my current bulb. I got it off ebay, and the new one cost a whopping $33.03 shipped! Sure, the new projectors might have more expensive bulbs, but not a lot more. I can't tell the difference in the picture with the inflated priced Epson name bulbs and the generic ones made specifically to fit my model number projector. Changing the bulb is no big deal. 2 screws and the whole assembly pops out and a new whole assembly slides in and you put back in the two screws. 5 minute job at most! You never touch the bulb, just the whole assembly. Myself, I can easily see the rainbow effect of the spinning wheel in DLP projectors. I do not like that distortion. Plus, most of the DLP projectors have quite a bit of lag. Over 50ms, so not good for gaming. Sure, some Optoma projectors have very low lag, but they are also toy like in quality. Plus, no matter which one I choose to do research on, there always seems to be something that stops me from making it my main choice to buy!!! There's a video here on TH-cam that has a BenQ HT3550 (probably the best for the buck DLP right now) playing on the left of the screen and an Epson 3800 playing on the right, with a video game. The BenQ blurs and smears a ton. He shoots at some dragon like thing in the distance and never hits it because the lag is so pronounced. The dragon actually blurs when he move quick! Creatures he shoots on the Epson side are hit often because of the low lag, and they don't blur in the least bit!....about 26ms in 1080P and supposedly that goes down to about 16ms in 4K. The Epson will also do 4k60. That, the lack of the rainbow effect because of the 3 separate Red, Green, and Blue LCD's making up the picture, the overall quality, the instant replacement for 2 years under warranty (I had to use that on mine early on, they overnight express another projector of your model to you so you have no down time, you use the same box to return your defective projector, and you don't even lose a day of viewing! And, they pay for shipping BOTH WAYS! Can't beat it!), makes me want to buy an Epson projector again. I'm leaning towards the 3800 because it has everything I want. Great contrast, very low lag for gaming, super bright, best in class adjustment for placement, quality, features, and picture quality. Plus, it uses the latest 18gbps HDR spec for the future. That made me eliminate the Epson 4010, because it isn't compatible with HDR going into the future. People often say they can't tell the difference between the DLP with 8.3 million pixels on the screen and the Epson's with 4.15 million pixels because of the quality of the Epson lens, the overall quality of their projectors, and their processing of the image. The 3800 seems to check all of the boxes! IMO, they are the best bang for the buck for a reason!
newbie here so don't mind the dumb question. So if i have a audio receiver (speakers hooked up to that) plugged up to the projector through hdm, will sound come through or do i have to get an audio jack plugged into my receiver?
Is it possible to hook up a Blu-Ray player to this and use the 3200 to send a 7.1 or dobly atmos audio signal to my soundbar ( nakamichi) . I'm using the Xbox One X now and its just regular stereo sound
Hey, thanks for watching! It all depends on the content you are playing or streaming. If it is 4k, it will show up as 4k, otherwise it won't look any better if it's just regular full HD resolution footage you're looking at. To take full advantage of this projector you would still want to stream or download actual 4k footage.

You need a laser light source. But unfortunately safety regulations make them non-user replaceable. The plus side is the bulb replacement on 3lcd Epsons are dirt cheap. Not a bad tradeoff for sacrificing a little in the black levels. I ran my HC 8350 for over ten years before I upgraded. Epsons are good projectors. And the bulbs always ran way past their hour ratings. One bulb I clocked 6700+ hours. I'm tempted, but it's not native 4k. I got the LG hu80ka for 2k last year on sale. Black levels look incredible.
I really appreciate this video. Setting up my first home theatre and planning on buying this model. 3800 is scarce these days but would have been preferred. Thank you for your detailed and honest review!
Hello! I have a problem. Even though my laptop shows details in shadows, the projector cannot. I tried calibrating and bumping brightness still no details in shadows. Instead the blacks are just faded. Shadow details are lost on VLC player and TH-cam as well. What should I do?
Unfortunately, I'm not sure what else you can do if you're not having luck with that so far. Kind of like I noted (and I've had a couple other people mention to me in my comments), the blacks being a bit more gray on this model seem to be a thing. They said that picking up the 3800, they noticed the blacks were darker.
Great review. Do you think the contrast ratio between this 3200 and Epson 3800 is noticeable? Confused between the two, prompt response would be greatly appreciated.
If the projector uses 4k pixel shifting, does it retain the picture clarity if you are streaming 4K contents? Wouldn't it downscale the source image from 4k to 1080p then use Pixel Shift to generate a 4K image? My speculation is just stick to non-4K, 1080p streaming. Please comment.
Yes I believe just like you mentioned above is how it pretty much works. I'm assuming the footage originating in 4k initially might make it a little sharper than just normal 1080p that was then pixel shifted but you can get a solid picture with other 1080p options for sure. This projector is extremely bright as well though.
Im confused, how can a projector project black? !!.... Surely the depth of black is purely dependent on how dark your room is and what material your screen is made of?!
I think I would. The brightness is slightly better on the 3800 (although I have zero complaints of the brightness on the 3200). Having the sound on board is a big difference in the 3800 and the contrast ratio is 100,000:1 compared to 40,000:1 on the 3200. That being said, I have heard some critiques about the blacks being a little gray at times in some scenes on the 3800 as well.
Contrast and speakers. I am holding back on this one because the contrast is a bit disappointing based on some first impressions around the web. Waiting on a reputable review from projectorcentral to pull the trigger.
Epson projectors convert any 2D content into 3D, it does not need a device that supports 3D, only the projector, any content and the 3D glasses. You can even watch regular TV in 3D, but Sports, video games and movies are the best content to convert into 3D.
I haven't fully tested those things yet, but PS4 should be good without lag with the 4k 60 hz. The 3d is something I am probably going to make a video on soon!
It seems a lot of people are not too happy with the blacks of this projector, while everyone is praising the tw5650 for its blacks. How is that possible given they are both 3lcd epson projectors and the tw5650 is less expensive.
Thanks for doing a review of this. I've not long ordered one direct from Epson in the UK as it is currently being sold for just £899(that's around $1150), which should be arriving next week. Hoping it has better colours than my current DLP projector and I'm also glad it still has 3D support. The only thing I was worried about was Bluetooth lag as according to Epson it only has Bluetooth 3.0 not the newest 5.1 specification.
Nice I hope you enjoy it! Yeah I've had no issues with the Bluetooth. I'd just make sure to get a BT 5.0 transmitter if you are going to pair it with non - Bluetooth speakers.
You are projecting light onto a white screen, so you'll never get anything close to black, and the contrast & vibrancy won't approach that of most decent TVs.
Yeah you're right. I'm thinking of trying out one of the gray screens to get some better contrast because this projector is already certainly bright enough.
You will never have great black levels on a projector. It just isn’t possible with how a projector works. The only element that may help is the screen. But even then the improvement is minimal. If you want a projector you just have to accept that’s how it is.
That's definitely what I learned. Idk if it's worth it as much to spend more to move up into a higher projector category compared to spending higher on a TV.
Thanks for your review brother... Out of curiosity, are you still using your projector now? Is it part of your everyday life? Are you still glad that you bought it? I bought this projector yesterday from Best Buy and have been playing around with the settings, trying to get the best, most balanced picture. I'm trying to be objective and look at the big picture (pun intended!) and not just focus on the negative things, which I may not have even noticed before reading tons of reviews lol. I'm coming from an Epson 1060 which has an awesome 1080p picture, and I'm wondering if this is really worth the ($1,500) upgrade. Thanks again for your review😁

My question is why do projectors come with speakers at all? HDMI handles audio and video, does it not? I run one HDMI from my receiver to my projector and that's it. Sound.
Yes I do have the same question? Won’t the HDMI good enough for both sound and picture? What is the purpose of internal speakers?
Portability. Alot of people like to be able watch a movie or play a video game outside so the internal speakers are nice to have.
I mean if you like to take your whole receiver and speaker setup camping that's cool too.
The same reason that televisions have speakers. Convenience. Taking it outside for backyard movie nights.
how many feet off the floor do you have it?
So because this uses pixelshift technology, does it matter if your signal is sending 4K vs 1080p? Other than for HDR?
Is it possible to change dimension of the screen?

@@linofoliveira really !! The contrast isnot good in 3200 .. ooh its problems I want to buy it
Epson projectors convert any 2D content into 3D, it does not need a device that supports 3D, only the projector, any content and the 3D glasses. You can even watch regular TV in 3D, but Sports, video games and movies are the best content to convert into 3D.
How
Отличный обзор, спасибо! Что вы скажете о качестве 3D? Насколько комфортно играть в PS4?
@@CandidTechTV have you looked into the BLACK screens?
I just bought this projector its clarity is amazing but black level is just horrible and movie with night scene will look very wash out.
3LCD color gamut is marketing bullshit, it's all about the absence of the rainbow effect.
Contrast in that screen have seen?......😢
I might try this with a silver/gray screen to see if I can improve the contrast/blacks since it's so bright
I buy the same projector and the quality its not the same u show here, absolutely less
boguht mine 638 dollar ! ( belgium)
where you buy in Belgium? which store
@@egmons8199 bought on beamerexpert.nl
Very nice!
@@CandidTechTV I'm wrong with Calc I bought it 968 dollar, 879 eur.,
You will never have great black levels on a projector. It just isn’t possible with how a projector works. The only element that may help is the screen. But even then the improvement is minimal.
If you want a projector you just have to accept that’s how it is.
That's definitely what I learned. Idk if it's worth it as much to spend more to move up into a higher projector category compared to spending higher on a TV.
....and then the JVC DX-7 and DX-9 were made. OLED like Black Levels, if not exactly the same as OLED....you're welcome. Technology!!
Your videos are too quiet
Thanks for the feedback, that's the first I've heard of that. Thanks for watching.
@@CandidTechTV they aren't too quiet. No worries there
👌
Who watches 4k video without a proper surround sound system?
Plenty of people now a days. 4k is becoming the standard - you don't need surround for good sound!
@@CandidTechTV I have a surround sound system but it doesnt work too well and it just becomes an echo, so i just use 1 speaker
What is the projector resting on at 10:30? Does it swivel?
