I have a 20 yo son, who is obsessed with sailing ships. He's a very high functioning autistic (graduated HS as Valedictorian). We're enjoying your videos, as we're planning to build an rc sailboat. Subscribed.
Hi Gary, Just wanted to say that I have recently spent a few happy hours making some small blocks according to your instructions, I really enjoy your videos and the charming low key but detailed descriptions, I have been building model yachts for a few years now but am always finding there is something new to learn. Thank you for the sharing of your knowledge and experience. Regards Tony from Australia.
I used to use paperclips as the hook/strop much easier and they are preformed sometimes when making that type of block, otherwise I used rope to make the full eye going around the whole block, and my blocks had brass pins for the roller (instead of the wooden piece you inserted) if they were very small, otherwise I used plastic rollers from old stereos or VHS machines belt systems and found they had various sizes so were a great help.
I like the idea. As far as i know they use beech for handles, at least in Europe. I'm truly enjoying your videos, keep them coming. Cheerio from Ireland
i injoy your shows, and how you use what is on hand items to bild your ships, im in the army and use my spear time bilding a RC salile boat. Iturnd my room in to a small work shop. and use mostley what was on hand, using ammo crates for parts of the hall, bandoliers for the sails, spent cartridges for some of the brass parts. it still neads some work befor my ship sales, but you have help me out
HA nice movie where a brush already not good for is beautiful pulley but I must say also that I very like the standard as the model boat is on is not carried out standard plywood saw but a real look boat buck. very nice

Hallo Gerry, immer wieder wunderbar, Dir zu zuschauen! Greetings from Germany, Georg Rosenkranz
Now, this is the kind of videos I love to watch. Great editing work.
thank you for sharing your building ideas and skills.
+Gilberto Sedo Thanks for the kind words, most encouraging for me. I'm always happy to share my thoughts.
Incredible skill and detail, you should lead a master class in model sailboat building!

Aaaaaaaaaaaargh. I've been throwing those brushes away. Nicely done sir.
I’m glad I stumbled on to your videos. I’ve been thinking of a winter project. I may have found it. Thanks

Brilliant, simply brilliant! I shall be making dozens for my 1:24 Thames barge and saving a fortune. Thank you for posting👍
These look and work nicely on my model Schooner. I wouldn't have known what to do without this video.

I'm going to try making a block with a metal pen through the opening and a roller made from brass tube on the pen. Michael
Well done, thank you!
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻well done. I have a bit of cocobolo and purpleheart that might suffice. I’m tempted to make a pulley that would rotate inside.
Thank you. Your stuff is very helpful!
Good job. Looks awesome. 👍

Really love your videos, keep it up mate :)
Nice video!
I have one quedtion though- how are the corners of the sail attached to the spars?
Great idea, I have 15 to make, gonna save some cash, cheers
So you don’t need a wheel pulley for the movement?
No, you don't really need moving parts. The loads on these models are light enough that the "dumb" blocks work just fine.
très bien

Keep up the momentum, don't slow down
Send me an address and I’d be pleased to send you some purpleheart, cocobolo and mahogany strips.
