" I mean they taking turns" 🤣Boys to Men were a 4 part harmony singing group. It's only 3 of them now performing. The individual members haven't had much success outside of the group, so the group thing is their bread and butter. To me that A Cappella at the end always stands out. The song was written by Baby face is now their signature song, among many.
Correction, song was written by Babyface, L.A. Reid, and Daryl Simmons. Someone in the comments got it right before I did.

  • @akastarchild

The members sing their solo parts in this order. Nate Morris started the song off. Then the blue shirt guy, as you called him, is Wanya Morris; and believe it or not he puts his heart into each song that exact same way. Next, is Shawn Stockman, followed by Wanya again. And last, is the bass Michael McCary. They set up their songs to emphasis how strong they are regardless of who is on solo. Back in the day, the joke was that it wasn't a Boys II Men song if Wanya didn't do his wiggle to get the notes out. But when all is said and done, those boys can sang.

I promise Wanya slays every song he's on, not just this one. The man's tone is inimitable. There's a reason why he's the only one who enters twice in this song.....and pretty much every other Boyz II Men song there is. It's essentially their default framework. Give Wanya the mic as much as possible.
He's simply fuckin' incredible. He's legit one of the best male vocalists of all time. He's arguably the #1 male vocalist of his era and no less than Top 3. He's definitely one of the most slept on 90's singers, period. And when they did 'One Sweet Day' w/ Mariah, I remember telling my friends, before it actually dropped, that the project had the potential to reach a 'once-in-a-generation' level of success.
I was hyped af about it because I thought that putting Wanya on a track w/ Mariah potentially had an insane amount of explosive synergy. On paper, it seemed like that was a no-brainer because those two are arguably the #1 male and #1 female vocalist of their generation. And like Wanya before, Mariah is absolutely no less than Top 3 (w/ Whitney and Celine).
From a commercial perspective, it empirically exceeded those predictions because it reached an unprecedented level of success. It was #1 for 16 straight weeks, setting the record (at the time) for most consecutive weeks at #1 ever. And it's also fantastic song...but my fault. I digress.
I really just wanted to say that Wanya is super fuckin underrated and slept on.

wanya is one of the best male singers of the 90s, him and kc from jodeci. also , usually they keep the first takes of studio vocals (w/ voice cracks and everything) because it gives the most natural and heartfelt rendition.

The guy with the cane sings bass/baritone and you can hear him at the end when they’re singing a cappella. All 4 members sing and Boyz II Men can sing live without music (a cappella). They got their name from the New Edition song Boys to Men and were discovered by Michael Bivens of NE. Check out that song as well as How Can I Say Goodbye to Yesterday by Boyz II Men.

@@devildog5657 Home Free certainly loved the song and did a good cover of the song but doing it justice is the wrong word to describe it. The original is extraordinary. I congratulate Home Free for their appreciation of the song and the desire to do a cover of it. I don't think their goal was to supplant the original but they showed respect and love for the song. I'm sure Boyz to Men were flattered by it. But still, the original is a masterpiece sung with a level of emotion and power that is undeniable.

As for the group, Motownphilly, please don't go, uh ah (both versions), I'll make love to you, it's so hard to say goodbye, yesterday, on bended knee, water runs dry, a song for Mama, one sweet day (Mariah Carey collaboration), hey lover (LL cool j collaboration). The 90s ...ah man...those 90s were freaking awesome when it comes to music from the States but also from Europe (we had some bangers as well, maybe not all known all over the world but at least across the continent).
It is crazy to me though that there are people, especially from the West who dont know this masterpiece.

You need to check out more of their songs. I was a teenager when these guys were constantly knocking out hits. They had some good slow jams that were always played at school dances. When their songs came on you grabbed your girl, hit the dance floor and pulled her close. 80s & 99s were a great time 👍😎

Michael is the one with the deep voice. He is just so smooth.
I think that register is called a BASS.
He was doing his sexy begging 🥺.
I’d probably take him back and give him another try too.

As a Black person it makes me sad people don't know their own history. This is how Black people always sang. This why it is called Soul Music. This is called harmony. We always sang like this. However, their is no more r&b or soul music as everything is a generic pop sound with below average singers. How is it dude don't know about the Temptations, O'Jays, Boyz II MEN, Jodeci, Marvin Gaye, Chi-Lites, Whitney, Aretha. Force MDs. These are acts who can actually sing unlike today's acts. Dude acting surprised. This is how Black people has always sang. Smh!

Boys 2 Men were one of the most outstanding groups of the 80s and 90s. They were most known for ballads but for a great change of pace that didn't get enough air play, check out "I Can't Let Her Go."

I was in my 20s when Boyz 2 Men came out…they were huge…still best vocalist group in my opinion. “Motown Philly”, was one of the first, if not the first song I remember hearing from them. Need to bring back more of this music today.

Yeah, Wanya was a monster vocally. He could stand with some of the best female vocalists of the 90's which can't be said about many male R&B vocalist, especially now.

I always thought the version by Home Free was merely adequate compared to this original. It the B2M you really feel their sincerity and their emotion.

Boyz II Men was the first live performance I ever saw of any musicians. I remember hoping as a little kid that Mariah Carey would come out for “One Sweet Day” but of course she wasn’t gonna be touring for one song. Legendary R&B group tho!
