I still have no idea why Microsoft insisted on making more Halo after Bungie was done with it, but then absolutely refused to just make more Halo. Why did they keep starting over from scratch? Why did they keep changing things? You'd think a cynical corporate entity like Microsoft would do the safe thing and just crank out an annual Halo 3 clone and print free money forever like CoD and FIFA do. Which would also be bad, but I would at least understand why it happened. How do you spend all that money buying an IP you want to keep selling only to immediately mismanage it and rarely release any games?!
I take it you're unfamiliar with Microsoft's history with acquired IP. I don't mean games or fiction, either- they do this with mundane corporate and consumer software and OS/backend IP. It's the modus operandi of Microsoft, and has been for better than forty years. Even a business partnership with Microsoft is often the kiss of death for a software platform. Hell, they do change for change's sake on their own software- witness Windows 8 and the ribbon interface in Microsoft Office. They can't help themselves, as an institution.
Why? Because from about 2011 to around 217 the game journalists were screaming for "Innovation" There were articles every week how games were not innovative enough. the demands for innovation died when COD became absurd with the wall running and other nonsense.

Frank O'Connor stating they were hiring people who hated Halo, and 343's general anti-Bungie views and all things related to the Bungie era, probably is the reason there were so many problems with the 343 games. They wanted to continue the Halo IP, but also change everything that made Halo...Halo. The art style, the game mechanics, and even attempting to get rid of the voice actors, its like the whole environment of 343 was toxic for Halo.
why is every bad news about halo really bad news? its never a small thing we could over look. replacing the voice actors/actresses in the franchise they single handedly carry on their backs is an insane move that im generally mind blown was even a thing. 343 and Microsoft really dont like halo and its sad. the thing they took out from the halo franchise since halo 4 was the marines. i miss having marine chanter as we ride a pelican in like in halo 3. all the games after that feel soulless
Given everything else we know about 343's attitudes towards the franchise at the time, it's honestly hard to believe that they even let him audition for the role at all.
Ego is the reason for the changes. It happens in every company when there's a new manager. They always want to change the way things run even if they run optimally. They just want to put their name on it.
I think Microsoft intentionally wanted to erase the original Halo legacy after Bungie left on bad terms. It’s like Gavin Belson is the CEO of Microsoft.
I'm glad Halo 4 exists though. It's pretty epic in its own right, although it contrasts with the other games in the series and should by no means be used as a template to build off of going forward.
FINALLY. Mint (or anyone) acknowledges what I have been saying for YEARS. Halo Reach started this trajectory. Bungie basically created Reach with an alternate formula for Halo, with ideas that were scrapped or didnt make it into the original Trilogy. Riding off Halo 3’s success, Halo Reach performed incredibly well financially. 343 saw this success with all the changes Bungie made and ran with a similar formula tweaked even further (with sales in mind). But many Halo fans expected Halo 4 to be similar to the original Halos (since we are back to the timeline of Chief) and bought the game. The people who loved the new formula of Halo Reach and kids new to the franchise also bought Halo 4. And thus, H4 performed very well in sales. This time from a split audience that would only continue to diverge further into Halo 5. And the snowball continued.
Halo 4 has been and still is my favorite for the multiplayer. "Classic Halo" now feels very dated very slow and simply not fun having now spent hrs upon hrs playing Battlefield and COD. 6 or 7 shots with a Battle rifle to get a kills is just stupid. It should be 3 shots with a headshot, 4 shots without. The TTK with the AR should be cut in half. To capture the younger generation they need to seriously speed up the gameplay. They should still keep the "Classic Halo" and a Gametype for the old school fans then it becomes a win win.
@@spartanx169x Halo 4 also feels slow as fuck considering what it wants to be, same with Call of duty. If you want a genuinley fast paced shooter then play old Quake or Unreal games. When I want something slower paced I'd like to go to Halo. And lets not act like the "younger generation" doesn't love slow paced stuff, you ever play Fortnite? That shit makes Halo look like Titanfall half the time. Also Halo 4 is over 12 years old now and Call of Duty and Battlefield have been the same formula for well over a decade now, that shit is also archaic as fuck now and I wish game companies nowadays would stop relying on IP recognition and make something new.
@@spartanx169xhalo 4 is a great game, but it's not a great halo game. If those weren't master chief games, if those weren't mainline games, I think people love em.
Halo reach had a huge playerbase, halo 4 didn't. It's because Halo reach was a good game. Even in MCC it's the most popular halo. Don't discredit reach saying it was riding off of halo 3 despite it's flaws.
i feel like there would be more hope for the franchise nowadays if microsoft said "we're dismantling 343 and forming a new 'halo studio' to make new games" instead of "we're renaming 343 into 'halo studios' after we just fired a bunch of people. we also won't confirm if we're changing our awful hiring process that screwed over halo for the last decade."

When 4 launched, and 5, everything I had given feedback on as /bad/ was still in the game on launch. It was rather... offputting to say the least. Remember they didn't WANT to do what Bungie did. Didn't want to hire Bungie devs, etc... they wanted to be DIFFERENT and that backfired spectacularly. I'm honestly surprised MS let it go on as long as it did. Edit: 7:01 ya, that.
6:40 the thing is I do not like call of duty, I don't mind traditional halo, but halo 5 has always been my favorite game in terms of gameplay. To me it was the best of both worlds, it was in the middle. I don't want pure call of duty, but I dont wanna just play halo 3 again.
skill gaps are being fazed out of games to keep the more casual gamers involved and to keep them around long enough to spend money in the online store or season pass.
We have known since 2013 that 343 had no idea that Master Chief was or what Halo even was as a franchise. They even stated this publicly themselves back then.
You say that, but tyere portrayal of Chief in Halo 4 was genuinely really good. Same in Infinite. It's the rest of the franchise they've struggle to get right.
@@alexlyster3459yeah I love H4 even with some bad things but my highlights is Chief in his personality, armour and story, and Cortana in the same manner. Just crazy why some of these companies think they need to reinvent the wheel or do something sloppy to put their name on it. Happy H4 came out the way it did but this would’ve been a quick and early death of Halo had they actually replaced him. Good riddance Bonnie Ross and that old leadership
@@alexlyster3459 I will have to disagree. Master Chief in Halo 4, 5 and Infinite is not the Master Chief of the earlier games. Hell the entire reason we dont get to play Master Chief in Halo 5 is because 343 thought he was a side character in the earlier games. That is their own words mind you. On top of this Bungie made half of Halo 4 and wrote almost the entire story for 343 because they had no idea what they were doing. It was the last job Bungie had in the Halo deal. To consult 343 with Halo 4 so they could make it happen.
The issue is 343i tried to decontruct a well established game but what they did is deliberatetly destroy instead of build up upon from the existing base, Halo Infinite is what Halo 4 should've done from begining, at las it is too far too late.
Well… as it turns out guys 343 is the gift that keeps on giving Or rather the opposite, it’s a goldmine of disappointment Isn’t it kind of ridiculous how a decade later we are still digging up dirty decisions they made that worked against its fanbase? Not too many game industries can say that It’s just stupid that even though they’ve already screwed up so damn much were uncovering more and more Now if any of you have ever watched/read Harry Potter not that I’m an expert but we can all agree that we hate Dudley right? Dudley is a dick and only does what he wants to do, hey would you look at that, it’s the same with 343!
It shows how little they knew what they were doing from the beginning on even the most simple and fundamental levels. They're a joke of a studio, their games have a fraction of the success Bungie had and they'd have a fraction of that fraction if they released the exact same games but without the Halo name. I know a lot of people say they prefer the new Halo style, but they're the 1% of the fan base while the 99% from peak Halo mania moved on.
Because it's a slow news week that's why, and nothing brings in views like Halo discourse... I'm tired of unsubscribing and resubscribe I'm just going to stay unsubscribe from this guy
i mean people are going to have to get used to it because the man is 74 he will probably be retired after the next Halo his voice was already rough in parts in halo infinite,
I remember how BF and COD both stumbled in a massive way and Infinite had everything to succeed but it also stumbled, it was just like the opposite of BF, COD and Titanfall years earlier.
@ @ that’s a bit cynical, they are a company and they need money to continue to operate. One would hope that the main reason is the are trying to regain goodwill from the fans and return Halo back to its roots before trying something new with the story. Well I just answered my own question. If I’m right then I hope they don’t completely fuck it up by making it weird and woke as fuck. If they were to incorporate elements about marine resistance as seen the novel The Flood in the CE remake then it could be very cool indeed.
@@beltempest4448 After all we've seen coming from 343 leadership you still think their is hope? The only scenario I see Halo Studios earning some goodwill is purging everyone from that studio and placing OG bungie devs in their place the men and women who worked on Halo CE to Reach.
@ those same people handed off Halo so they could work on other projects, so that’s unrealistic. I don’t hope for anything, I’m just naturally optimistic. I’m optimistic about people acting in their own self interest, once they realise that it’s in their interests to make good halo games that remain true to the lore then we will be back
At this point, I just want Mint Blitz to run the Halo franchise. I feel like he would take the old games and collaborate with modders to give us new content, make the next Halo the best Halo ever, and bring back ODST as a Hell Divers game. He could create an incredible battle royale for Halo to generate revenue. There are unlimited ideas we could explore with Halo, even a Warhammer-style game. Just imagine an archaic set of chunky Spartans with melee weapons. What could have been or what could still be. I'm tired of waiting for companies to give us what we want. I’ll bring the franchise back to life, even if it means creating a new one myself.
Besides the actors but isn't the Master Chief getting old as well from being in so many games and time periods? Or does the cryosleep keeping him in tip top shape? Either way might not be bad to play a new character with Master Chief not being in it for new games. We already know Halo games can tell good stories without Master Chief being a playable character since there is ODST. So the main character doesn't have to be a badass "demon" or Arbiter. There was Reach but I felt like the main character was more hallow than Chief/Arbiter and even Rookie and he doesn't speak as well. Also would be nice if there was a more ODST feel Flood focused game But yeah there is no reason to change voice actors. Need to keep the voice actor for Arbiter as Keith David for example
I guess I'm a minority but halo 4 multiplayer was one of my favorites. Reach was the best in my opinion but halo 4 was more enjoyable for me than halo 3 multiplayer.
And the 343 fans call us idiots for not liking 343 huh i wonder why? Is it because everytime something happened it only showed their massive egos and the large levels of hubris they have to make a halo game hell 2 halo games that are so unhalo you have an entire generation thinking halo is call of duty as wellas halo being a trend chaser not a trend setter and i dont see that changing with halo studios i mean their first big update to infinite was 20$ master chief akin 20$ arbiter skin 20$ marine skin and more money for the other miscellanious bs that you can get oh but they gave us a new gun and a way to play infinite that is more true to actual halo so all is forgiven right? Nah
343/halo studios fanbase is *nothing* but a circlejerk of projection. They seem to think that because we hold the old games in such high regard, they must think said older games didn't also have some problems and flaws!
@@Sonilotos Just because what he has to say is written in a wordy way, does not mean there is little there to interpret. You have just chosen to be intellectually dishonest because you disagree.
Stop trying to blend games cause you think that's how the market works. The more different & authentic the game is the more it grows & stands out. Nobody who plays Halo wants it to feel like COD , vice versa.
I don't know if anyone remembers, but back in the Xbox 360 days when Halo Waypoint was an app on the console long before it became a forum website, they had a vidoc leading up to the release of Halo 4. In one vidoc they were talking about the art and they showed the Halo art style guide left behind by Bungie, and as they were talking about doing it their way or however they phrased it, they showed the a physical copy of the official art style guide left by Bungie sitting on a table and as they said it, they physically swiped it off the table and slapped down their radically different one that no one asked for. Note: for those who don't know what an art style guide is, if you think of a game design document, but specifically for that art on the game. It's kind of like the bible for the art team on the project for artists to refer back to, and the art leads especially to take guidance from when giving feedback direction to the artists they are in charge of. When you have a team of artists, an art style guide is essential for consistency in the art direction and includes things like silhouettes, colour pallets, shape language, etc. for the game as a whole, also used as a guide for artists if you reserve certain colours or shapes for specific factions for the players readability, having recognisable designs so that the art itself is kind of like branding in of itself, direction for visual appeal, whatever else you can think of like that. That's basically the purpose of an art style guide. So to deliberately showing yourself yeeting the beloved art style guide off a table to physically replace it with your own one, I don't think I need to explain how distasteful that is and how it shows there was "This is ours now, screw what came before." mentality at 343i.
They need to release the new halo with : split screen , 4 player coop campaign , multiplayer with multiple modes (especially big team ctf ) all the past vehicles we loved , theatre mode and file share , and of course , forge mode . And last but not least a story involving the cheif taking on an invading alien force . Give us some excellent voice acting and dont replace anyone capable of doing the job . Oh and Joe Staten and Marty O'Donnell should be heavily involved . Edit : i also want to a battle Royale mode custom game . I really enjoy dropping in Forrnite / deadpool 2 style . This addition is just an extra game mode not the focus of the entire game. Odst style drop pods could work too but its the chief , he doesnt really need the pod .
Tbh I wouldn't mind a new main character. Don't get me wrong I love chief but they have such an expansive universe and it sucks we are limiting it to just one character
I really want to play that older build of Halo 4 now, if it plays like traditional we NEED to experience that!!! If anyone knows the name of that beta please comment below.
The best thing about Halo 4's multiplayer is that it's the best way to play early 2000s CoD multiplayer 💀 With MCC having populated lobbies, CoD having changed its own formula, and the older CoDs being full of hackers or otherwise empty, Halo 4 is the best CoD experience you can play today. I would have still rathered a proper Halo game back then, but it is nice that Halo 4's MP actually has value today.

Hey Mint, Marty O-Donnell did an interview with Steve Downes and Jenn Taylor a couple years ago on his channel called The Big Stage Ep004 (Part 1 and 2). Somewhere in that interview Steve and Jenn recount the entire backstory to the Halo 4 debacle. It's quite a listen!
I applaud you halo fans like mint blitz who still pushes on for this amazing franchise, this and call of duty is beloved franchises i moved on from playing due to bad decisions, shady practices, corporate greed and much more lack of passion from back then they used to have but now it's lacking. You people who push for halo to be better i genuinely appreciate yall because even though i moved on this franchise and cod is in my heart forever. I must be such a rare creature because i loved Halo 4 multiplayer. My biggest issue with the series currently is that the game has felt sweaty as hell ever since. Jalo is often more stressful to play these days instead of fun. And i never had that problem with 4.
I have the Art of Halo 4 book and even reading about the way they were taking the direction I could tell 'you guys just want to change it for the sake of changing it'. I enjoy Halo 4 but it's ranked lower than the Bungie Era games on my list. It has a strong foundation with Reach's engine but they squandered so much potential with it in their quest to be 'different' from Bungie. It's why I was looking forward to the advent of Halo 4 mods for such a long time, I felt like that would finally unlock it's true potential.
I hope they never replace him they can’t he is master chief without him there is no halo if they replace him no one will buy the next halo it won’t be the same
My biggest problem with every Halo for multiplayer is the UNSC tactical weapons that are more useful than everything else. If Halo Studios changes this, then it will take Halo in the right direction. Halo still needs to evolve past the same old thing that it's known for. If people want the franchise to return to being a king again, then change is needed. I'm not saying they need to cancel out the things from before but have two completely separate modes. For example Warfare Matchmaking: Is for those who want a PvP and PvE 100v100 large-scale combat squads of 4 players while utilizing the entire Halo Universe with loadouts, armor traits, different characters modules, and a leveling system for - weapons, grenades, vehicles, equipment, abilities, characters, assassinations and etc. Arena Matchmaking: Is for those who want small-scale competitive combat with the same weapon and trait starts. Matches are 4v4 and 8v8 classic gameplay experience. Players play rank matchmaking to level up by winning games and try to reach level 100 to become legendary. If Halo Studios wants to deliver an amazing experience for everyone, then this is definitely needed.
I feel like the day we lose the Chief, Downes, is the day Halo can go down a different path in terms of main story. For instance, 343 gave us a new duo to take up the mantle in Halo Wars 2, Jerome and Isabel. HALO could give us a possible Halo Wars 3, along with a FPS Halo game in the Spirit of Fire's part of the story.
to be honest, I do not think halo 4 and 5 were bad at all. It really felt as progress. Now I get the armors were a bit off in the multiplayer, but giving chief a new design and more integrated abilities, such as instantly switching from driver seat to the back, and other abilities were amazing. Also, the way weapons functioned in Halo 5 was amazing. I like it ten times more than the HUD in infinite. They could do that and use the HUD the moment you choose to not include a scope. It feels like they cut too much corners in infinite.
I thought it was going to be something like Mrs PacMan, where it's just Master Chief with a bow, eyeliner, lipstick, and a beauty mark over the Mark IV.
To be fair, I did enjoy the kill cams. Helps me understand what I did wrong that resulted in my death, it can be a useful learning tool to get better at the game. If the instant respawn wasn't a thing, it'd probably have been better.

Yeah it's a disgusting attitude that they had
"we've learned our lesson this time guys, we swear."
Given everything else we know about 343's attitudes towards the franchise at the time, it's honestly hard to believe that they even let him audition for the role at all.
I really hope Halo Studios creates a spin off game before tackling Halo 7.
Have you seen the executives? Dude we are in for more hard times as Halo fans.
343 was such a shit company - if any other studio had taken over Halo from Bungie, imagine how good Halo would be today!

Now if any of you have ever watched/read Harry Potter not that I’m an expert but we can all agree that we hate Dudley right? Dudley is a dick and only does what he wants to do, hey would you look at that, it’s the same with 343!
It shows how little they knew what they were doing from the beginning on even the most simple and fundamental levels.
They're a joke of a studio, their games have a fraction of the success Bungie had and they'd have a fraction of that fraction if they released the exact same games but without the Halo name.
I know a lot of people say they prefer the new Halo style, but they're the 1% of the fan base while the 99% from peak Halo mania moved on.
And this is why I’ve been a bungie purist, we should have had a traditional halo continuation :(
Looking at the player retention graph not change at all with releases of maps and goty addition is painful

They removed grenade jumping? And added it back?! What?! Man... I really haven't played infinite in a while. I completely forgot about that.
Not gonna lie, I don’t get why they are remaking the original games when there is loads of great lore to work with
To purge Bungies influence once and for all me thinks.

@ that’s a bit cynical, they are a company and they need money to continue to operate.
Steve MADE the chief. If they replace him the master chief is gone.
Also would be nice if there was a more ODST feel Flood focused game
But yeah there is no reason to change voice actors. Need to keep the voice actor for Arbiter as Keith David for example
I guess I'm a minority but halo 4 multiplayer was one of my favorites. Reach was the best in my opinion but halo 4 was more enjoyable for me than halo 3 multiplayer.
Mint blitz=goated/legend
So to deliberately showing yourself yeeting the beloved art style guide off a table to physically replace it with your own one, I don't think I need to explain how distasteful that is and how it shows there was "This is ours now, screw what came before." mentality at 343i.
i think 343 gets too much hate but this is one of the dumbest attempted changes in the history of gaming lol.

The best thing about Halo 4's multiplayer is that it's the best way to play early 2000s CoD multiplayer 💀
With MCC having populated lobbies, CoD having changed its own formula, and the older CoDs being full of hackers or otherwise empty, Halo 4 is the best CoD experience you can play today.
I would have still rathered a proper Halo game back then, but it is nice that Halo 4's MP actually has value today.

I must be such a rare creature because i loved Halo 4 multiplayer. My biggest issue with the series currently is that the game has felt sweaty as hell ever since. Jalo is often more stressful to play these days instead of fun. And i never had that problem with 4.
I hope Halo Studios is well, Halo Studios, and not 343 Industries.
I remember playing Halo: Combat Evolved, Custom Edition on PC where you could play custom maps, waaaay ahead of it's time.
I hope they never replace him they can’t he is master chief without him there is no halo if they replace him no one will buy the next halo it won’t be the same
As an old saying goes, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." Or "If it works, it works, don't change what works and what is successful."
NO NO NO NO , PLEASE TELL ME THIS IS NOT REAL PLEASE , NO NO
Watch the video before talking
This news is YEARS old and it baffles me no one here knew this considering it’s been publicly talked about by Steve, Jen, and others.
For example
Warfare Matchmaking: Is for those who want a PvP and PvE 100v100 large-scale combat squads of 4 players while utilizing the entire Halo Universe with loadouts, armor traits, different characters modules, and a leveling system for - weapons, grenades, vehicles, equipment, abilities, characters, assassinations and etc.
Call it what it is. Corporate Halo.
They changed the lore and the sound design. That killed it for me.
to be honest, I do not think halo 4 and 5 were bad at all.
A lot of games have a issue of copying other games because they care more about money instead of doing their own thing.
To be fair, I did enjoy the kill cams. Helps me understand what I did wrong that resulted in my death, it can be a useful learning tool to get better at the game. If the instant respawn wasn't a thing, it'd probably have been better.
Why do we have to insight hate in the community

The audacity.
Imagine a Call of Duty game with no sprint, no ads and a good campaign
If voice actors like Peter Cullen can voice Optimus Prime in his 80s, then Steve Downes can sure as hell continue voicing the Master Chief. Don't fix what isn't broke.
if Halo 4 was supposed to be a fresh start for Halo, then they should have picked up with entirely new characters and not ruined Chief's story
Wow 343 is more shitty than expected and already thought they were
