I like the interview. With a very sober tone, Auberon is both ironic and blunt. He is not emotional about he says, although it’s quite hard: “The basic problem of my father is that he didn’t like children”... Not easy to say, for a son.
Waugh’s comments about his children in his diaries are extremely mean, with the exception of his tone when talking about Margaret. I think he actually liked her. His pet name for her was ‘pig’. I was introduced to his daughter Teresa once. She had her father’s small piercing eyes, and seemed to me slightly vague. She was hit by a car, if memory serves, having jaywalked into traffic.
Hello John I’ve absolutely loved the arena documentaries and watch them over and over again these past four years when does the request I have if you wouldn’t mind my uncle and light aunt were friends with Septimus Waugh I noticed a while ago you had the documentary by Alexander in 2006 it would mean the world to my uncle to see it has he lost my aunt in August of last year and then Septimus a few months later there any possibility if I give you my email address and things you might be able to send a copy of any format to me and I can forward it on to him ?
Hi Benjamin. I didn't have it but have noticed the version on TH-cam has now disappeared. However the makers, Malthouse Films, have made it available on Vimeo. Here is the link vimeo.com/599330990
And thank you for reminding me of this brilliant documentary. Alexander Waugh is a much underrated writer with much more to give. Septimus appears from the 28 minute mark onwards in link provided.
@@johnsalisbury785 dear John good evening thank you ever so much I forward it on to my uncle Who was astounded I was able to find it thank you ever so much Benjamin.
Jeff Sida lol, Evelyn Waugh the man maybe, not the writer surely; but who is who after all, can we exclude one to the detriment of the other ; His own son saying that ‘a lot of people felt a great release when he died’ that’s quite something..

I hope the whole program be uploaded sometime in the near future. I love docs and other programs about writers.
Life with an Artist.
Nasty piece of work!
Thanks for uploading!

THANK YOU !!!
Waugh reminds me of Charles Ryder’s father who was comically austere in his affections

Everybody celebrates When their kids go back to college . 🥳
Good Lord, celebrating when your children leave back to school, at holidays end.
of course you celebrate, you get peace again
A great many parents celebrate the day. They just don't make it obvious to their kids.
@@piccupaul exactly the way to celebrate the occasion
Can we blame him, please ..
Just like Charles’s comically austere father in Brideshead Revisited
Is there more of this?
not of auberon, it is part of a 3 part waugh doc
Would be fun to watch, if you're able to upload! Either way, thanks much for this!
Sorry to hear your society brutally, seems to happen rich or poor.
The lack of individual love from people whom have power to choose.
People who... 😊
Evelyn Wauch was a very selfish man.
Seems like a pompous pratt ( the father )

I know people who were at Downside with Auberon and he was way more pompous than his father could ever have been! He was widely despised by his peers.
@@319metresMW I only know Auberon from his writings, but he was 10X more pompous and caustic than his father ever was.
@@Themanwhocameback2 both are superlative writers. I don’t presume to judge their personalities which I leave to the Almighty
