This song needs to be rereleased on the radio! And, the sad thing is that, I was 18 when this came out and I honestly thought our generation x were gonna be the ones that took it to the next level of acceptance. I loved the merge of rap and rock back then. I thought we as a people were moving forward back then. I was sadly proven wrong! Now is even worse. That breaks my heart. I'm white and as a kid never thought anything about race and status until is was forced on me with radio, TV, and other outlets back then. I thought were all equal until I realized that the world we live in thinks we're not. 😢😢😢😢😢😢.

Same. I'm gen x too. We were so accepting, and being "color blind" (aka not giving an F what race ppl were) was the norm in school. Now we are being told that thinking that is racist. And that all white ppl are racist. It's so sad. I never even thought about race and now I have to walk on eggshells.

I have love this song and so do my kids. And my husband and I taught our girls to keep your minds open to judge and definitely don't be a sheep. Be a wolf be a leader and be your self. And don't worry about what others think as long as your happy. Then I also mentioned that if there was any bullying, they would get an old fashioned spanking, and since I have 3 girls we taught them the 7 B's books before boys because boys bring babies. Then I taught them reach for the sky bend down touch your toes if anything shows go change your clothes.

Coming from a military family, I felt color blind most of the time.
Realizing that others were not, bothered me so these lyrics really brought it home and became my go-to song of choice for ignorant friends.
    I’ve said more than a few times…

In the late 80's a line was heard......around the world......
"We are a nation with no geographical boundaries. Bound together through our beliefs. We are like-minded individuals, sharing a common vision, pushing towards a world without color lines."
This, of course, was none other than my idol of idols in music.....Janet Jackson and the first words heard on her Rhythm Nation 1814 album.
The containment of social music suddenly ended.
Artists from Janet to En Vogue, to the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Ozzy, Salt N Pepper, TLC, Madonna even were speaking out about those who's voice was undermined, forgotten, squelched. They spoke about the tensions at the time. Unrest, upsets, abuses of power, uneducation, racism, and discrimination. all of it. Teens like myself got swept into a generation of commonality and love.
Something happened, and I missed it somehow. The mid 2000's saw changes in news stories I thought I would not see anymore. And it has gotten progressively worse. Stands against it in music are seldom feeling on the same level as it was then in my mind and heart.
Even Janet sang "I had a great epiphany, and Rhythm Nation was the dream. I guess next time I'll know better." and those words broke my heart.
Aside From Lemonade by Beyonce, especially Formation, and a single recently to hit my ears "Take Me To Church" by Hozier........the wave felt back then is not here. And it is sad.
To India Reacts. Thank you. I have been watching reaction videos of these songs from my time back then with the younger folks of today. Everyone seems to miss the messages. Seems more in awe of the videos, dancing, and styles. Which is also wonderful......but you are the first I have seen to hear the message. Thank you thank you thank you. I am now 43 1/2. This country and this world is slowly being passed form us of this age to you all. We have fought, he have struggled, and we have grown so tired in our age that we cannot keep it up on our own. It is now your time to bring the change, shine the light, and make this world a more open and loving place. You are in the house of tomorrow......we can sadly only visit there. Please pick it up where we are slowing down, and bring an end to the sadness and grief today. Share these songs and messages all over, and remember we got it so close to right once......we can bring it home.

I love En Vogue so much. I wanted to be Cindy. The message is FREE YOUR MIND. This needs to be put back out there because there are too many that need this lesson.

Classy and sassy unlike today's most overrated female artists.

The first thing they said in the song is not to judge on how a person acts and dresses. You clearly didn't free your mind
