nadaan parindey....from Rockstar. The mood and music just pierces the heart, pulls it ruthlessly and doesn't let it go till the songs last beat..And that beautiful excursion in between is heavenly.
2:06 thats my man.... implosive silence is pure majic, im still wondering how that tone came in his mind and he exactly and accurately sculpted each second to feel the exact mood he wanted us to feel.... hes a maestro...

Well, theres a massive variety depending on where the song is made in India (north, south etc), AR Rahman himself has composed a large number of songs that sound different to each because of different influences! :)
I have such an inherent bias towards Rahman that every song I listen to his, I end up thinking "Oh, this is brilliant and legendary". So, it'll be hard to decide a favourite song because there's different things you like about each song of his; sometimes the composition is complex yet melodious, sometimes the instrumentation is experimental and fresh, sometimes the way the lyrics has been fit in the composition with beautiful cadence.
Khwaja Mere Khwaja(Jodhaa Akbar), Kun Faya Kun(Rockstar) Ye jo Des(Swades), Dil he chhota sa (Roja), Tu bin batayen(Rang De Basanti), Zariya (Coke Studio), Naan Yen (Coke Studio), Jagao mere des (Coke Studio), Dil se re (Dil Se)......I could go on and on with my list of favorite A.R. Rahman songs!!
If you ask me, I do not have one favorite Rahman song. My favorite song of his changes with my mood. Currently Bombay Theme and Ye jo Desh hai tera is my favorite. I will come back when my mood changes.
Selecting one fav. is a challenge....definitely a challenge. And if I had to pick one it would be Chinna Chinna Aasai- Roja. The first song that I remember from him and that Sun rise scene.
Mine is Nadaan Parinde, Kun Faya Kun, Ye Jo des hai tera and... God there are so many. It was pretty surprising to me that all of my favorite music I didn't know who's the composer were composed by AR sir. I was the type of guy to not look who the artist of the song is but just listen to the song. When I started noticing the artists of the song I listen to I was shocked to see majority of my playlist was filled with AR Rahman's music
My all time favourite, I think I love music because of ARR. My childhood my father had the massive collections of all indian and Arabic songs his favourite collection from Ilayaraja, but there was couple of cassette placed there. I noticed heard the musics then learn this is the musics that rule in the future, Roja, Bombay definitely is still fresh songs, all the ARR songs are made of past, present and future references. But my all time favorite is Maa thuje salaam and Dilse re
It's difficult to pick a favourite Single track from Rahman sir music. Hardcore follower will never forget "Naan Yen Piranthen" from Coke studio in which Rahman sir voice creates a heaven like feel.
Sometimes I just feel like listening to all the songs at once but then to pick one, I usually visit this video. For today it is going to be “Naan yaen pirandhaen “
My favorite is luka chuppi. It has the legendary Lata didi in it and when Rahman starts singing his line "kya batau maa kaha hu main", instant goosebumps.
I think most of those foreign musicians haven't listened to Rahman's Tamil compositions. Most of his classic compositions are predominantly in Tamil. If they had, this video would have got a complete different list.. 👍👍
Anytime I listen to Yeh Jo desh hai tera I get tears, it so well composed even without lyrics the shenoy will stir and squeeze your soul out to a different world. Once you understand the lyrics with tune simply melting the soul. Iam an ardent fan of the Legend Maestro Illayaraja sir... But this composition will haunt you all your life.. I believe ARR has a strong forte in Melody's, his way of approach towards melody is unique and stays even after decades. Like the songs in Pudhiya mugam, Netru illatha maatram and on and on...
Roja Janeman / kadhal Rojave......all the songs from his Debut movie Roja for which he won Indian national award. It's a soul of Rahmanism. After listening this I started going deep into any music/song. That's my all time favorite.
What about the BGM's from his movies? Lagaan, Swades, Saathiya & of course Roja. You guys should listen to BGM's as well composed by him. A whole different level..
You guys need to hear more and more of his work from South industry.... There is so much more like Alaipayuthey, Roja, Kaatru Veliyadi, Khadalan, Boys, Mudhalvan
Many. Santosha kannere from Uyire. I am a fan of his talent to make a traditional tune into a fusion. For example, india's national anthem, "Vanthe Maatharam". He modernised it. Mangalyum thanthunane mantra.... he modernised in Alaipayuthey.
My favorite is the Leo Coffee Jingle - the best one! Love all of his songs but the one that comes to my mind right now is 'narumugaiyae narumugaiyae neeyoru naazhigai nillaay'
guys go visit this number "meri bebasi ka bayan hai" of AR from the movie album Rockstar..Its an underrated number given the fact that "naadan parindey", "tum hi ho" and "sadda haq" got more space i guess, but this particular number of AR is my personal favorite and depicts his pure genius.. A masterclass act..
