    I hate it when they call a job entry level and expect at least 3 years of experience

      Just apply none of these companies are looking for people with no experience. If you know 50%-80% of the job description just apply. In IT they treat you like you’re worthless if you don’t have work experience so it’s all about finding one person that will believe in you.

      It's all about selling your skills. I honestly think that degrees and Certifications are all about getting past the resume stage and on to the interview stage. After that it's all about how well you can sell your skillset and experience. That includes technical knowledge upfront and portfolios. And even experience to a degree can be manufactured through personal projects. And if your networking skills are good enough you cam even get to those interviews without a degree. Just remember that even if you're not in sales, you're in sales.

    I have a bachelors of science in psychology and a masters in special education. I have been in the education profession for 10+ years. I enjoyed working as a special education teacher, but I am burned out and need something new. It’s ok to transition careers. You spend most of your adult life working so make sure you find something you are passionate about. I have been learning how to code this past year and I hope to enroll in a Bootcamp. I’d like to work in Ed tech and I often look at job descriptions and learn the basics for the job requirements. I hope to strengthen my knowledge with a Bootcamp and personal projects.

      Coding is such a valuable skill and Springboard’s boot camp took me from complete novice to intermediate almost advanced level abilities. Edtech sounds interesting!

    I can understand why you decided to ditch marketing, its so volatile and unstable. Marketing professionals are often the first to go when there are mass layoffs. Good choice mate.

      At the end of the day it wasn’t something I enjoyed doing. I thought I’d be able to be working with analytical frameworks to identify revenue growth but I didn’t have the skills to do that till now.

      100% I met with my career coach the other day and already getting a ton of value from it. Gonna make a video about the experience in the future because given what I talk about in this video, the career mentor addresses best practices to stay competitive.

      No I did WGU in business. WGU for CS is really common though, and most of the folks who come across my videos are getting CS. I feel bad sometimes because they ask me about getting certs and I don't have answers... I'm blanking on the channel name, but there's a guy making videos about each course in the CS track at WGU. If I find his channel I'll link to it.

I wanted to go data and worked on bi projects often times but didn't workout. So now I'm going machine learning and going the other way. I found you bc I'm going back to wgu to get credentials to show more data skills. I'm 11 years in tech and don't regret a thing.

    How was the under grand experience at WGU

    • @eminsh
      @eminsh  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Most excellent. I'm the kind of person that doesn't enjoy classes that have nothing to do with my goals. WGU limits that to a certain level. It's also nice to go through classes at my pace. I had a decent amount of business acumen going into the program so I was testing out of classes in one day at times because I already knew the material.

      @@eminsh so I got the earlier versions of the curriculum which was extreme barebones. Broken links, videos from 2015. I know they revamped it and I actually went through and helped develop with the first guided capstone you guys do. In terms of job search definitely it’s more on you to get your job right. There referral system they say they have at the time wasn’t anything at all. I will say this it’s nice to talk to someone each week to brainstorm your resume and how to tackle the job search. But yah curriculum wise wasn’t so good. I ended up also pursuing an online masters at omsa to strengthen my fundamental knowledge.

    The job market is a joke these days.

    • @eminsh
      @eminsh  ปีที่แล้ว

      It is extremely tough. Seems like companies think a qualified data scientist needs a Ph.D/Masters and maybe so, but the actual coding and fundamental concepts are fairly straight forward. Point of this video is to do some research ahead of time to make sure you understand the necessary commitments for obtaining the job title and role you're aiming at.
