Keith, I just wanted to say that you're probably top three of all educators that I have come across on TH-cam (all-time and regardless of topic). And I've watched a lot of TH-cam :-|... Calm yet still committed, very structured, and incredibly knowledgeable. Just wanted to let you know :-).

That front angled disk holder is my favourite disk holder ever 😍

I know nothing about synths hardware, but I find myself enjoying your videos every time. It's always a pleasure to see experts doing what they do.

This is a phenomenal sampler ( i own two S612, an s700, s959, mpc3000, s3200 and the s612 is the best sounding Akai by far), i advice you to recap the PSU as soon as you can as the PSU caps are the only weak point of the machine, once those caps start to fail they damage the mother board but if you replace them the machine will last you for other 30 years ✌.
Also i highly recommend the Hidaway floppy emulator XD-280 it is a true game changer for the s612.
    cheers

Thank you for making this video! I was recently given a free 612 by a coworker and this helped me get it going again!

12 bit samplers are so neat. Thanks for sharing this with us! I would love to buy a run down one like this and fix it up someday.

What a coincidence! last week I´ve bought my second S-612 ($200) and the disk drive doesn´t work. It stays frozen like yours, probable the same rubber belt problem. Thank you!

I hope it's just the belt on your drive. The S612 is a great sampler.

My first sampler as well, ended up with two and then one of the 6 sample versions (S-700? 🤔) the sound of those clunky drives was its own special music👍

These samplers are great. They have recently shot up in price to stupid heights. Like over $1k.

In part due to the mods available in the last couple of years. The disk drive can be completely bypassed with an emulator
      and load thousands of sounds.

Console 5 has exact belt replacements. Belt replacement is a pain for sure.

Keith, would you consider doing more FM videos? Perhaps some further examples of sound creation? Your two FM videos helped me greatly with my Yamaha DX9

I'm wondering if you can use ana akai sampler as a data filer for other 8nsteuments. Such as a qx21 sequencer??

Yes, you can save to both sides of a Quick Disk, just flip it over.

What’s the sizes of the rubber belt that actually fits in the 280 where you get it?

    • @krmelectronics
      @krmelectronics  2 ปีที่แล้ว

There is a link in the description for the belt kit that I ordered. I don't know the exact size required. I simply tried a few belts that were close.

    • @SamplersAndThings

Supposedly it’s the same size belt for the famicom disk system
