I have been looking for a place to learn about repairing synthesizers as I have many old ones that need a little tweaking. This is an awesome channel, please keep us updated with your repairing endeavors
I will be replacing LCD in my A desktop pretty soon but I'm very nervous. Haven't really done a surgery like this on a synth yet. And after watching your vid I'm not even sure if I have the correct replacement lcd, haha. I googled around and did some research so hopefully everything will go well.
Dear Keith, I would very thankful if you walk me in how to obtain one of those backlight strips for our Virus Indigo we have. The LCD is about to die and we havent been succesful with repairing it. I hope you can help us out! Thank you! H
I'll be replacing (upgrading/mod) my LCD on a Virus KC so this video was at least helpful to make me feel comfortable about opening things up. The kit I bought supposedly has no soldering required. Thanks
can you remember how to proform a factory soft and or hard reset/factory reset? I know this video is a couple of years old, but took a chance you still might offer some help? Thanks
I got the replacement backlight on Adafruit. Just Google for "LCD backlight adafruit" and you should get several matches. I should let you know that it wasn't an exact match, and I had to hone it down to size. It wasn't just a drop-in replacement.

Hey Keith! Thanks for all thid brilliant videos and tutorials. Actually folloed this one strictly to replace the display of my Virus Indigo, everything seemed ok but at power up, the display went just blue and nothing else happened. I asume i just left some bus board cable unpluged or plugged incorrectly , Nos dont want to try powering up again as they might be wrong…Cant find any kind of diagram of the inner lay-out of the synth to doublé checked evrything is ok. Please any help? Maybe sending you some pictures i took while putting all back together? Any info much appreciated! Thanks again
Hey Keith ! Got a Virus Indigo (1st gen) also with burned leds. I bought the adafruit backlight and replaced the led and it worked great for a day or two. but today it stopped working again. Haven't had the time to check it yet. but if it's burned could it be voltage it to hi? another weird thing happend after re assembled , the synth just turned off after a few minutes, had to re power it back. it happened twice. can it be related ? can it be that I wired it wrong ?
From the patent office to UL we were never encouraged to run anything disassembled in service position, reason through problems, fulfill Right to Repair monolithic products. Most consumers are probably unaware of the fact that this is how it’s done. "No User Serviceable Parts Inside" Would be great to see guidelines on determining when electrical dependencies permit powering up separate boards or combinations of boards, with or without theory of operation. Listen to KRM about the variances of LCD boards and avoid vexation.
Hi Keith, nice fix! I have a virus B playing up. I wonder if you could take a moment to point me the right direction! www.youtube.com/watch?v=CaxL...ature=youtu.be From the video you can see once clicking single mode and then using parameter switches to flick though the patches is taking me to LFO 2 section? 1st I tried to reinstall OS but no different so definitely hardware issue. I have managed to replace and solder 7 new switches thinking this would solve my problems but alas the problem is still here. Switches I replaced are-------- 2 x value, 2 x parameter, multi and single, and LFO 2 amount. I have 3 more switches left, but Im starting to think the old worn switches are not my problem. I have also tried a newer power supply that came with my novation circuit, but this makes no difference also. After I changed the parameter switches it worked perfectly for half a day then problem returned. So it does seem intermittent. But is doing the error all the time now ;( THanks Richy
Why would you make a repair video but not even show doing the actual repair? ...You completely skipped actually removing are reinstalling the backlight... Totally defeats the purpose of making a repair video. Total waste of time.

Wow, thanks! You may have saved me 80 bucks buying a replacement OLED.
My TI backlights went out. Or some of them as the display is still visible but dim.
Does anyone know the specs for the size and type of LED?

Thank you. Think the battery on my synth needs changing. Hmm. Wish me luck, gonna open her up,
is it possible to mount an oled display inside the virus TI?
I had to take my Virus Ti's LCD display apart too. It turned out that there was poor soldering connection to BL leds
Hi Keith,, actually how good is this synth? is it worth buying second hand ?
Hello Keith, my virus ti2 can't update firmware, how should I do ?
What did you study in order to get knowledge about this stuff or are you self-taught?
Nah.... I can t see well how u open it
