Don't like to subscribe to any site(those notifications annoy the hell out of me)but couldn't resist this one. We "camped out alot when I was a kid(since learned we were homeless and living out of a car)and my dad did all the cooking on camp fire. I can cook decent pinto beans with salt pork, fry potatoes with the best of them, but never could get the hang of good biscuits, he made it look so easy and with hand churned butter, heaven. Didn't realize how poor we were till around age 10, we were eating good and having fun in the river playing with rocks! I'm 68 now, the oldest of 6 children. No one will probably read this but I miss my dad so much just had to write it down.
Thanks Mary, and later in life my mother told us we grew up poor in the worlds standards but not in God eyes, we had family, friends and food. Thanks so much for watching
On my way to the store now for some yukon golds and sprite. Can't wait to make this. Had to give up and rehome all my cast iron cause of arthritis in my hands, so I really hope my stainless steel in the oven will work as well.
Kent, my boys and I met you and your lovely wife at Silver Dollar City a few weeks ago. We loved the demonstrations! My son cooked sparkling taters as part of a delicious meal for his Boy Scout patrol on a campout last week. They were so good and so easy to make. Used red (new) potatoes and hatch green chiles. He had scouts and adults "taste testing" until they were completely gone. We are putting your cookbook to good use. Thanks for helping him build his outdoor cooking confidence.
Randall, so great to hear my friend and I bet it was great with the red potatoes and green chilies. I love that recipe bc you can change it however you like. Keep the fire hot!
You always have the right recipe for any occasion. Thanks to the both of you for all your help sharing the goodness of the Dutch oven cookin. We ran in to and old friend, Forrest D in Tennessee n had a great conversation about his chuck wagon cook competition @ Pigeon Forge. As a member of the western New York dutch oven society, I'm really enjoying all your videos
thank you both so much for these videos.. yes i will admit.. im addicted to cast iron.. my whole life .. i have my great grandmothers pieces..and the pieces my grandmother had too..love trying your recipes.. they work perfectly... this one is such a hit with everyone...
I made this today in the cast iron. I fried the bacon and added the onions/peppers then mixed in the taters, Sprite, and some Old Bay seasoning and baked it covered in the oven at 400 F. Came out awesome, though I need to buy some of Cowboy Kent's seasoning to make it even better. Thanks for the videos and tips. The family loves your food.
I just love your videos! I am from Arkansas but have been living in Hawaii for 2 years and I miss that southern character sometimes! I laughed out loud at some of the things you said. We do a lot of camping here, sometimes beach camping, sometimes on mountains, sometimes in the valleys but we just now got a dutch oven and I cannot wait to use it thanks to your videos! I wouldn't know where to begin without you! Many thanks and Aloha!
"So, looked in there. Through ol' Mike Butler and his drinking habit, I found me some Sprite he mixes with the whiskey he drinks on occasion. So I stole it!" ROTFL hahahahaha
I'm sorta back after health challenges just wanted to say all of your recipes that I have seen and later cooked have really been delicious. Thank you Cowboy Ken and lovely wife Shannon.
One of the best sets of videos I've found on TH-cam. My mother was raised in southwest NM on a cattle ranch, but my generation skipped and my family as well. I don't know much about the cowboy life except for what my past has taught me. I do however love to be outside and especially camping. I try to cook outside as much as I can. Great videos and the best I think so far is your CBS Sunday Morning interview. What a great way of life, hard working and simple but also a lot of fun and good honest folks. Keep them coming Mr. Rollins. Already making a list of materials to build my version of Waldo and the smaller fold-up version of Bertha
I'm in the same boat. I'm glad I was interested in cooking as kid & helped my grandma when I was kid. Now I'm one of the ones that knows how to make her recipes.
Just found your videos and enjoying every minute. This is real cooking for real people. I've been boiling coffee for 40 years. people think you are nuts till they get a cup. Keep these awesome recipes coming.
tried this recipe out today. It is the best potato dish I have ever had. Thanks so much for sharing and puting these great videos out. Good luck with the sponsor.
God this was so cool. I like watching you cook as well Townsends. It gives me time capsule vibes with the style and culture of that history shown in today's times
Never used cast iron. Bought several two months ago and retired last week. Luckily found your videos and am enjoying a new hobby and loving it so far. I will be trying my hand at cooking with iron on our wood stove. These potatoes look like the first wood stove recipie.
This Sparkin' Tarters is so awesome, you all need to make it. It is worth every money or time to make this. The best bake potato, (not fried potato) I have ever made off this books.
I love this man. as a result of watching these vids. My passion for cooking has been restarted I take pride in what I make and my family loves it. thank you sir.
I made sparkling potatoes recently in a skillet, we were camping - my partner said that she really enjoyed them - I didn't tell her it was your recipe - maybe I should fess up - lol -ATB
I am glad i found your channel. i live in an apartment in a lage city, however, i see things i csn adapt to my situation. i love outdoor cooking when i have a chance.
Well Lord have mercy I've just done my first happy dance! It's 98 in the shade here in south central Kentucky and hasn't rained to amount to anything in well over a month so a campfire didn't sound like a good idea any way you cut it so we took the sparkling taters indoors. My granddaughter Emma has been riding me hard for almost a week to make these, so today was the day. If these tastes any more better fixed outside than these turned out I don't know if we can stand it. Just can't thank you and Shannon enough for all you do. May God continue to bless y'all with good health and good business. Any upcoming cooking classes planned?
Another great recipe for my 12” oven. Tried the sponsored hemorrhoid cream. Not so good on the potatoes but cleaned up the lodge oven like a champ. Thanks for the tater recipe.
Mr. Rollins,. I'm raised and born here in Georgia and you are speaking every single bit of my language with all this fine food you make..... I got some nice tenderized sirloin in the fridge and im gonna do your chicken fried steak tomorrow for dinner. might spice it up with some outside in the baptism mix causei like good heat ,complete with gravy. I now I know the side dish I need to make for it along with some good biscuits.......... that's the stuff I was raised up on, and I'm gonna put a hurting on that plate when its done..... good on ya friend. have a good 'un.
I just found this! I'm so happy to hear you give credit to your wife Shannon for making all these videos for you! She does an excellent job. Thanks, Shannon!
Hello Sir . I just found your channel and its a pure joy watching you prepare and cook these meals. You got a new subscriber and fan here in Alabama! !!.
Only thing is I like my bacon crunchy. Being it’s in the liquid it will be soft. I’d almost want to throw some fat back in to season then pre cook the bacon and put it in when it’s done along with some onion chives. Cheers
Best time to watch your videos is when my son is cooking up some bacon. Gives a new dimension to your videos when it seems like I can smell what you're cooking
1st time trying these and WOW! I used charcoal and used sausage as we were out of bacon. These were great but I know bacon would be so much better...thanks for making these videos available Kent!!!! God bless
I made these last night. I did change a few things. I love peppers, but my family will run to the hills if you even mention any type of pepper. So I had to use a Green Bell Pepper instead of a jalapeños. And I used some homemade pepper sauce in mine. There wasn't any left overs. But everyone needs to try these. They are amazing. Kent, thanks for the recipe.
Hello Kent , I'm From south Texas and also love to cook in dutch ovens in my home and at camp in hunting season , we cook alot the same in Tx, as yall up their, i add tex-mex flavors to my dishes , going to start using your recipes and incorporating them into my recipes , thank you and keep up the excellent and very tasty recipes coming
this is a recipe for ribs I want to share with you what my family has done cut the ribs and sections small enough to get them in a pot submerge them in dr. Pepper soda pop along with your spices and other things you want to use simmer them on the stove for about an hour and a half or so then pull them out throw them on your grill put a little barbecue sauce on them and warm them back up and when you're done you will be surprised at how well the meat falls off the bone
John Blair thank you a family friend showed us that recipe that she was using I never heard about where she found out about it from our family friend is 85 years old now she's known me all of my life I'm 61
Memorial Day this Monday is going to be awesome cooking me some Kent Rollins baby back ribs, sparkling potatoes, corn on the Cobb and home yeast rolls. Thanks for the great recipes Kent.
Cowboy Kent Rollins thank you Kent for the wonderful recipes in your cookbook. I’m going to have to order me some more seasoning from you and some green chili chipotle relish. Good bless your family and I hope you also have a wonderful Memorial Day.
I've made these three times already, and within the week. They were at hit at Easter dinner with my family, and tonight at my work potluck. The first time I tried it was in a pressure cooker though, but they still came out good. Now I'm thinking of using this recipe for a pot roast.
Kent...we really ❤️ and enjoy your style of cooking with comedy! You obviously have “The Gift of Gab” along with a God-given natural-born dry wit that’s paired with your subtle sense of humor and joke timing! You really know how to deliver your “mosey slow” tag lines just as stealthily subtle, as your native born Oklahoman Western drawl....how carefully you release the gag line... just like a well-thrown lariat! Your punchlines are very much like a lariat’s silent loop, which has to be timed with perfect precision, so that it sneaks up on an unsuspecting audience that didn’t even see it coming! We ❤️ how you time not only your food perfectly, but your jokes and stories wraps us up in laughter! We can see how you got all your awards! Keep on doing what y’all are doing...we can’t help being hungry for more! God Bless All Y’all!
I am in the process of opening a BBQ joint, and I love this recipe so much that I may have to incorporate it onto my menu I have been cooking for 27 years and by far my favorite way to cook is the old fashioned "Cowboy" methods ... While in the Army overseas, I was a driver, but everyone would still come to me for dinner while in the field, because i always had something cooking over coals if we where done for the day lol...
I started cooking these years ago when I saw it in the back of Western Horseman magazine. I’ve changed it up a bit over time, like how you changed to Mountain Dew, but it turns out great every time.
I've watched several of your videos and knew that I had stumbled upon a wonderful thing! But then! I saw the tri- color beagle walk by in the shot and I knew that you and your wife were my kind of people! Thanks for the great videos and recipes 👍🏻 New subscriber
LOL! Love it, love watching your videos they make me smile. I love how you set the lid down on the grass. I used to make a Chile Verde in my Dutch oven when we were camping. My husband asked me how come it's never the same, not that it's not good. I said that it's the dirt! Different campsite, different dirt! LOL 😂
@@CowboyKentRollins good to know! Glad you didn't set it on the grass! I still think when you are cooking outside your going to get the flavor of the outdoors no matter how hard you try, you can't help getting a little bit of Ash or dust from the fire when you open the lid. Love your videos I'm what you call a California improved Okie! According to my mother. And your absolutely right about the garlic👍
I'm gonna make that for my dad and father in law for father's day I think. they both love onions in their taters and they both will make a meal just outta taters sometimes so I'm sure they are gonna love it! Much thanks to you and shannon! God bless yall!
I finally got the courage to try this one out. I was skeptical, and the wife was reluctant, but the kids and I set in and made it. It was a bit even the wife likes it! Thanks, love watching the shows. Wish I could come hang out in one of your courses.
Just found your U Tube channel, so glad I did. Watched a couple of your videos, subscribed immediately. Being a Boy Scout Leader in Ontario Canada, I know I'm gonna learn a lot and pass a bunch along to the Scouts and my fellow leaders. Thanx Kent
He deserves a cooking show, he'd have the first cooking show that didnt take place in a miraculous, spotless kitchen. It'd be on the back of a chuck wagon in the panhandle of Texas. I'd tune in all the time lol!
I just can't enough of your videos. Just found your website and ordered me some things and got some Christmas gifts bought as well👍. I would love to come and just hang out with you for a week 😂. Thanks for all your doing.
Thank you for the prompt response. I make my ribs with Dr. Pepper, soaking them overnight in DP and salt, drying them, then putting them in the oven tightly wrapped with very little broth at the bottom of the pan for moisture after covering them with chili powder at 350 degrees F. for 2 hours, then send them to the grill with homemade BBQ sauce. The come out extremely tender and melt in your mouth. The use of Sprite or 7up in your potatoes is what intrigued me since I cook my ribs with soda. I would love to see what your spices would taste like on the ribs I make. Thank you again for the suggestion, I will look up your cookbook to buy and use in my kitchen :)
Didn’t see the beagle! But the owl was there for approval! Haven’t found anything you do I wouldn’t swear by! Thank you two for what you do! Fan for life!
Very true about the garlic cloves. Mucho good for your immune system. I've some pretty good allergies as well as a weakened immune system so am prone to getting upper respiratory infections easily (well, I was anyway) but now anytime I feel the least bit "out of it" I do three things. Slice up some raw garlic to eat (don't do that on an empty stomach though) and I prepare a concoction consisting of a few tablespoons of apple cider vinegar diluted with some water, a bit of lemon juice and sometimes I'll even add a few tablespoons of orange juice. I'll eat the nasty garlic and drink my nasty apple cider concoction (which doesn't taste so bad after chewing on raw garlic! LOL). I also sometimes will make a tea from fresh ginger root (just cut a few slices of ginger, place in a coffee cup and pour some boiling water in along with a bit of honey to sweeten and help coat your throat). The tea is especially nice if you are getting a sore throat. Enjoying all of your videos, Kent.
Mr Rollins thank you for sharing your recipes I have your book and I love it in my family breakfast is a big deal I hope in the future you will do more videos on breakfast foods and once again thank you

I love the old beat up bowls and pans. It reminds me of my childhood, growing up in my grandparents’ house.

Thanks for watching and God bless you
Another great recipe for my 12” oven.
Tried the sponsored hemorrhoid cream.
Not so good on the potatoes but cleaned up the lodge oven like a champ. Thanks for the tater recipe.

I now I know the side dish I need to make for it along with some good biscuits.......... that's the stuff I was raised up on, and I'm gonna put a hurting on that plate when its done..... good on ya friend. have a good 'un.

No doubt....maybe even a little better
I am in the process of opening a BBQ joint, and I love this recipe so much that I may have to incorporate it onto my menu
I have been cooking for 27 years and by far my favorite way to cook is the old fashioned "Cowboy" methods ... While in the Army overseas, I was a driver, but everyone would still come to me for dinner while in the field, because i always had something cooking over coals if we where done for the day lol...
Your better than Gordon Ramsay👍👍👍
sgtfreao67 Gordon appreciates all cooking, he's not conceited
Lol
I started cooking these years ago when I saw it in the back of Western Horseman magazine. I’ve changed it up a bit over time, like how you changed to Mountain Dew, but it turns out great every time.
I WILL MAKE A LIFE LIKE THIS ONE!
I've watched several of your videos and knew that I had stumbled upon a wonderful thing! But then! I saw the
tri- color beagle walk by in the shot and I knew that you and your wife were my kind of people! Thanks for the great videos and recipes 👍🏻

Greetings from 🇬🇧 Tried this today and it was surprisingly delicious 😋 love your channel👍🏻
You didn't leave the link for that hemorrhoid cream..
LOL! Love it, love watching your videos they make me smile. I love how you set the lid down on the grass. I used to make a Chile Verde in my Dutch oven when we were camping. My husband asked me how come it's never the same, not that it's not good. I said that it's the dirt! Different campsite, different dirt! LOL 😂
It was on a trivet setting on the grass
@@CowboyKentRollins good to know! Glad you didn't set it on the grass! I still think when you are cooking outside your going to get the flavor of the outdoors no matter how hard you try, you can't help getting a little bit of Ash or dust from the fire when you open the lid. Love your videos I'm what you call a California improved Okie! According to my mother. And your absolutely right about the garlic👍
Is city life really worth it? Real work, real food, real men. Let's slow down on change and remember our wisdom!
I'm gonna make that for my dad and father in law for father's day I think. they both love onions in their taters and they both will make a meal just outta taters sometimes so I'm sure they are gonna love it! Much thanks to you and shannon! God bless yall!
Thanks and God Bless you as well
Talk about using cowboy "make do".
I finally got the courage to try this one out. I was skeptical, and the wife was reluctant, but the kids and I set in and made it. It was a bit even the wife likes it! Thanks, love watching the shows. Wish I could come hang out in one of your courses.
Thanks John for watching
I just noticed a typo in my original comment. I meant to say "it was a hit" not a "bit".
Can you cook this in a crockpot
As long as you don't cook it to long, them taters will turn to mush
Just found your U Tube channel, so glad I did. Watched a couple of your videos, subscribed immediately. Being a Boy Scout Leader in Ontario Canada, I know I'm gonna learn a lot and pass a bunch along to the Scouts and my fellow leaders. Thanx Kent
Thanks my friend them are good taters
When you eat garlic with your partner neither of you smell it so eat some garlic with your woman
I just found your channel. The end of this video is absolutely hilarious and everything in it is very informative. Way to go!
Thanks for watching
He deserves a cooking show, he'd have the first cooking show that didnt take place in a miraculous, spotless kitchen. It'd be on the back of a chuck wagon in the panhandle of Texas. I'd tune in all the time lol!
Thanks for watching
I’m so glad I stumbled onto your Channel. I’ve enjoyed learning on how to properly use my new Lodge cast iron.
Thanks Mona and we are glad you stopped by
I just can't enough of your videos. Just found your website and ordered me some things and got some Christmas gifts bought as well👍. I would love to come and just hang out with you for a week 😂. Thanks for all your doing.
Thanks Jay and our pleasure
Ive made this 3 times now, memorial weekend and the 4th its always the first dish gone! Thanks!
Glad y'all are enjoying
I’ve made these on a few camping trips this summer was a huge hit thanks for sharing
So glad everyone enjoyed John
Thanks Kenny for watching
Oh gosh, hubby will love these. Thank you for sharing this ❤️

Mr Rollins thank you for sharing your recipes I have your book and I love it in my family breakfast is a big deal I hope in the future you will do more videos on breakfast foods and once again thank you
Thanks Keith, we hope you enjoy the book
I love these potatoes, made some last night with ginger ale instead of sprite. Little different flavor but just as good.
They are good eating
