6:30 Cyclops' optic blasts are not lazers they dont have heat. They're concussive energy force blasts from another dimension. Things dont melt they break, this is why he's able to slow down his fall.

That's the retcon version. Not the original version of the optic blast.

Also while it isn't drawn attention to a lot, he can clearly control the intensity to some degree. Also, it's a cartoon so everything is weirdly non lethal

The first 2 episodes were incredible!!! I absolutely loved this season premiere kick-off! I wasn't born in the '90s but my father kept a bunch of VHS tapes with a lot of the old X-Men: The Animated Series episodes on them and I grew up rewatching those same episodes as a kid. The action was fantastic, and I'm really digging the new animation style for the show. I just binged the entire original series, and I gotta say that this is a significant step up in terms of animation quality, of course. All the characters are just as charismatic as they were in the previous series, if not even more so. Hearing some of the classic voices return for their roles in this Revival series is so heartwarming and nostalgic. I'm also really digging the new blood when it comes to the new additions to the voice cast. The new voices for Gambit, Scott Summers, and Jubilee specifically sound really great and worthy successors to the original voice actors. I'm really loving what they're setting up for the overarching story of the season. I can't wait to move on to the next batch of episodes as soon as they release. Everything feels like a significant step up to a lot of the great things from the original show and this is clear proof that the people who worked on the show are true X-Men fans in grew up watching the original animated series. Ultimately, though, this awesome premier batch of episodes really reminded me how much I missed the X-Men as a family. It's been awhile since I really delve into the world of the X-Men like this and honestly I'm glad the show came out to reunite the fire I have for the X-Men that's some of the old fox movies might have dampered a little bit. Marvel's/The MCU's first crack at the X-Men was done masterfully, in my opinion, and I can't wait to see more! 10/10 Premiere for this show! 🎆✨️🙌

Others have likely mentioned it, but in the comics, Charles left Magneto in charge of the school when he went to space. Specifically, he mentored the New Mutants, including Roberto Da Costa (Sunspot), who was introduced in this episode. The original run of the animated series introduced another New Mutant, Sam Guthrie (Canonball).
We also saw Wolfsbane in the original series as a member of X Factor, and later on Genosha.
The clone of Magneto was /is Joseph , but this is the real Magneto. It's pulling from the comics where Magneto actually led the Xmen.
Gyrich’s monologue about how racists believe tolerance leads to extinction is so damn relevant to today. I hope the MCU X-Men are this poignant with their writing.
They certainly weren't subtle with the allegories in the first two episodes. This sort of thing was always a part of the original series, but it's so much more relevant today.
so, Scott's optic blast is not heat vision, it's pure kynetic energy, no heat, litterally like getting punched on the face, the visor allows him to modulate the potence of the blast because the default is less like a punch and more like a bullet train

The original animated series was basically inspired by the 1-150 comic books. These two episodes are a homage to 150-200 with Storm losing her powers, the Morlocks, the trial of Magneto and the birth of Nathan Summers though Jean Grey was not his mother...
Technically Nate, SUMMERS, a.k.a. cable is Jean son, biologically speaking the clone, Because Marilyn Pryor is a clone of Jean therefore they both share the same exact DNA
Just like technically X 23 a.k.a. Talon, a.k.a. Laura Kenny is wolverines clone, but because their relationship he considers her his daughter and there’s another clone honey badger is also Lord Kenny, technically little sister the X-Men relationship with family is real complicated if you went with every X-Men memo, such as colossus nightcrawlerwarpath cannonball Scott, SUMMERS, and Jenna Gray you find that family tree is very complicated
to be fair magneto is the cofounder of the the school, but he decided that charle's path wasn't for him and went off to do things his own way, so this is essentially just him coming back home to what he initially started.

I am 16 years old and when I was a kid my dad introduced me to the old x-men cartoon because he’s a huge x-men nerd so I’ve been really excited for this

On Cyclops using his powers without his visor: his power is frequently misunderstood as heat vision, when it’s actually a concussive blast. It’s like a super-strength punch coming from his eyes, and the fact he can use enough force to push someone away without his visor shows how much self-control he must have; as does the fact he can propel himself with it…
That’s what makes Cyclops so underrated, that he’s super-disciplined because he has to be but he can occasionally let his walls down when he trusts someone like with Jean. Of course, it also makes his personality boring on the surface for many audiences; he’s hard to appreciate if you take only the surface-level and don’t think about the stuff he’s got going on. And almost every adaptation for the last twenty-ish years fails to capture this which doesn’t help.
Charles thought by giving Magneto everything because he knew he was truly good.

Loved your guys commentary, you notice so many details for your age. (I'm over 60 and a long time x-man reader) And it is great to see fans that grew up with the show. I would recommend x-men 1-66 for anyone who wanted to see the original run of the comics. And one more time, you two are just the cutest couple and Xavier approved. Liberation for all.

This storyline is heavily based off the mid 80's storylines of the X-Men.
Xavier got a new cloned body his old one had be infected with a brood basically Marvel's version of Alien. His new body had working legs and left Earth to help Lilandra regain her throne after her sister took it.
He left the school to Magneto because Erik was trying to change, they recently at the time revealed his Holocaust backstory and that Wanda and Pietro were his kids (Well at least at the time).
Scott had left the X-Men to raise his son and then the original X-Men him, Jean, Angel, Iceman, and Beast all disagreeing with Magneto leading the X-Men formed their own team X-Factor.
Oh, and Storm had a mohawk at the time.

As a true OG Marvel fan who got up on Saturday mornings circa 92’ - 93’ and bought the box set on DVD years later. I’m glad they’ve actually captured the essence of the original series I loved in high school. As a long time Marvel fan I can’t stand Disney’s (live action) comedic, immature MCU. Finally, some authentic quality Marvel content.

One of the stipulations Kevin Feige insisted upon for continuing this X-Men series was keeping the theme song. Yes, it's a bit different along with the animation. However, they aren't using the same stuff as it was done in the 1990s. So, the colors are brighter, the theme song is a little more futuristic, but it's still the same show. The world doesn't need to know that Professor Xavier is under the care of the Shi'ar Empire, which is where he has been, alive, since the end of the original run.
I wasn’t born yet when this show came out in the 90s so what I do know of X-men is from the movies and comics. One thing I like about this show is seeing Cyclops be his own leader yeah he’s Xavier’s golden boy but with Xavier gone and his child on the way while Cyclops is loyal to Xavier’s dream he can’t implement it they way his mentor did having Jean mentally torture the guy is definitely a Cyclops tactic and not something Xavier would have done.

Just so everyone knows cyclops eye blasts are not heat based or light based. More so his eyes are a portal to a different universe of pure kinetic energy more like a force beam. The reason it cuts through things is not because it melted more so cuts like a blade.
Magneto lost his memory and became the character Joseph, for a short stint in the 90's.

Magnetos younger version in The Age Of Apocalypse. His name was Joseph. It was given to him by a Nun that he saved.
The first 2 episodes were great and dovetails nicely from the season 5 finale perfectly. You had reference to X-Men comic issue 200 with Magnetos look, connection to Spiderman TAS, the original team with the portrait hung inside the mansion, another comic storyline with Mr. Sinister creating a clone of Jean Grey with Madelyne Pryor who is the one that's pregnant with Nathan Summers. Nathan is short for Nathaniel referring to Nathaniel Essex the human alter ego to Mr. Sinister. She named her son Nathan out of loyalty to him. Also the Friends of Humanity storyline continues on. Also the leader of the friends of humanity is voiced by Laurence Bayne the OG voice of Cable from the 90s series. Chris Potter who voiced Gambit will voice Cable in this series. Also Catherine Disher the OG Jean Grey voice Senator Cooper in this series. Jennifer Hale has Marvel history as she voiced Jean Grey in Wolverine and the X-Men, Felicia Hardy in Spiderman TAS and Julia Carpenter in Iron Man TAS.
Also also the rogue magneto storyline causing gambit to become more cold and disconnected. I have a poster of rogue hugging gambit while he is holding magnetos helmet charged is so epic
@@lsplan23 Yes The Rogue-Magneto storyline is an interesting relationship. The scene with Gambit lurking in the shadow as the camera zooms to his eyes and seeing tears coming out captured beautifully. You can tell he feels betrayed.

OK, just to let y’all know know that is not a clone of magneto that is truly magneto. He is honoring Xavier‘s wish. For a while he was headmaster the X-Men he stayed there for a while but eventually he did revert back to. I wouldn’t say evil ways. However, in the house of X Run him and Xavier both run the school now have a I’m gonna leave that to you to the hellfire gala that happened this year and the events that allowed a big tragedy which is basically rebooting the X-Men comment in a way back to its roots.
Professor X was dying. Llandra took him to her planet to help him live out his life. Earth was no longer safe for him.

All the cameos are Morph taking on other forms for their utility in the moment. He becomes archangel in order to fly.

Man, I haven't heard a bad review of this yet. I'm digging it too. They're using profanity and showing blood too, but it's not gratuitous. It's just a bit more grown. Lol it's evolved... and I think all bad guys pronounce it "Evil-lution".

The one thing I never liked about the series is that shape shifters can only mimic the physique only not their abilities... that's why they're called "shape shifters"
Morph is only mimicking the physical aspect. If he turns into Jean he wouldn't have her telepathy or telekinesis

eh. people definitely knew the term best friend and besties is a simple and logical affectionate shorthand to use. i doubt no one had ever used it
i looked it up in the process of writing this comment and theres at least one _documented_ use of it in the early 90s, which means more than one person definitely used it. it seems it just wasnt put into slang dictionaries until the year you mentioned
