As someone who also studies vocal pedagogy. I have been able to point out and pick up my issues, becuase my vocal instructors have forced me to listen to my voice and make me aware of the muscles that I use when I sing. Like I can feel when I am throaty, constricted, and can tell when I am not engaging enough with my diaphragm. You are correct though, it is hard to pick up your own issues and a lot easier to point out others. She probably just needs help on training her ear better.
I wish there was more vocal colors likes her's in the 4th and 5th. People nowadays hear vocals like that and they now shun them and call them screamers and unlistenable. Just take a look at Lily and how people pick at her voice for being a Light Soprano. It makes me sad. Love Solji so much beautiful voice.
Agree with all of this tonal analysis; however, I still think she is a great (not just an "above average") singer. She consistently nails her intonation (without autotune), dynamics and phrasing. And her body language while singing is very convincing and superbly compliments her vocal performance. In short, her interpretation of her songs is spot on, and even breath-taking at times. Yes, improving her tone at the ranges mentioned would be a very welcome and helpful development. Nonetheless, just as she is, Solji is one of the very few singers I never get tired of listening to.

I agree, her level has stayed the same. The only difference I’ve noticed is she’s been putting more emphasis on her mid range and lows these days and had some lucky F#3s recently which is new. I think Solji is very much aware of where her strengths are.
Part of me was actually hoping for at least some improvements after her musical considering the big emphasis of the vocal package there but honestly not much difference. Her biggest strength might not be her techniques but with how great she is with the delivery of emotions, I'll close an eye with the techniques. Better fix it soon though in case it screws with her pipe in the long run. 👀

The issue with six the musical is that it’s a musical with a heavy pop emphasis/twist and the character she played was on the girly side. If we want Solji to work on her vowel shaping and strengthen her chords a more traditional and mature role like Miss Danvers in Rebecca would be a better bet (a role Ock Joohyun is famous for).
@@BobbyChen141 Sonnet’s vowels are on a completely different level to Solji and they should never be compared - Sonnet can actually round her vowels (though her upper belts have their issues Ofc). Solji’s vowels are a big issue technically and even among AAs the likes of Solar are above her in that aspect. This is a vocal analysis video and pointing out her technical problems is the point. I’m a stan of Solji myself.

Solji has a heavier voice than both of them so she sounds more “powerful” but Mariah and Beyoncé definetly >>> Solji in belting. I don’t know Mariah’s best notes but Beyoncé’s C5s in that Ave Maria performance at City of Hope definetly qualify as resonance. Also there’s a fair amount of reverb there but if you listen closely it’s not that round at all. It’s just a bright note with an alright open vowel. Even Solar is better than Solji in the rounding and projection aspect.

Lately, they stopped editing and isolating the vocals this heavily (except KOMS, who still enforces this standard) and most singers on shows like IS2 sound quieter and more subdued as a result, compared to those older performances. I wouldn't be comparing volumes unless two singers are actually at the same venue and unedited. Mariah isn't the resonance queen her stans wanted her to be but her best C5s certainly are far brighter and more open than this, with some actual rounding. Bey is a different story but I'd still take the Take My Hand C5 over this one.
She's generally less pushy + has such nice coordination in her low range. It could be argued that her chest presence is also better, but Solar does have nice TA engagement, too. She's just too pushy.
Solji indeed has no resonance. Even at her best moments openness and roundness is minimal.
