I realize this isn't a Disney vs Efteling ordeal but the comparison must be made. Efteling is doing what Disney used to do. Creating original ideas, drawing from inspiration of course. Original ride ideas such as this one. I'm no engineer nor ride expert but I have never seen anything like this in my life. And I live on youtube theme parks. I only even found this ride from a modded workshop item on Steam for Planet Coaster 2 (video game). I could care less for spinny rides, but this ride is done in such an innovative and original way, wow. Walt Disney created this idea of theming the parks. But it's the folks in charge of parks like Efteling (and sometimes Universal, i.e. Epic Universe) that are truly keeping that dream alive. I know this was winded but I just felt like typing out my thoughts. And Disney folks, don't come after me. Disney will find their way back, they just need to stop relying on IP based attractions/lands at every single turn.
I agree / every aspect of this experience seems far beyond what Disney does these days. Even the added touches like the people working carrying lanterns helps set the ambience. It’s really sad that Disney, with all the money they take in daily, can’t step up their game. Instead, you have to pay a few hundred extra to even get ON the rides at Disney. Sad.
@@KT-sq2ml Disney these days is "how do we update the park experience for as little money as possible?" 20-30 years ago, they had engineers who came up with amazing creations and ride concepts, but sadly, those engineers have all left Disney, and the ones that remain lack the heft to push for big projects.
This has been the best on-ride footage I’ve seen so far of Danse Macabre! I appreciate the time stamps and the emphasis on what you chose to record. It helped me get a better grasp of the atmosphere of the ride. Thank you!
Best footage I've seen of this attraction! However, no video can do it justice. I went on it twice a few days ago and WOW. Incredible attraction and I urge everyone to check it out if they're ever visiting Efteling!
Finally I can understand the backstory of the ride. So that is the monster we constantly hear. The cat being more of a monster stalking. But we only ever see the cat at the entrance and only hear it after that. Though it sounds more like a werewolf. We never really see the monster, though it could be burried underneath all those instruments. Amazing full experience video.
When entering the chapel, the little black cat is inside the musical basket in the middle of the room. He peeks out of the tuba and the drum. When the ride starts, you see the little cat one more time before lighning strikes the instruments. He then transforms into the monster version (the unnamable). You see the instruments moving up, giving the illusion of something growing underneath. From some of the vehicles you can see monstrous eyes hidden in there. Overall, the backstory of the cat being the unnamable dark force in the area is told really well during the queue and ride
This ride is fascinating. Upon first glance, the cat reminds me of the Monkey from Mystic Manor crossed with the cat from Coraline. But the cat is the monster! I think Garner Holt did the animatronics for this and Mystic Manor.
This is insane. I went into this expecting it to be well-done but I admittedly had reservations about how much could feasibly be done with that ride system. Honesty I was so surprised at how much they did with it. Looks like a top-tier dark ride.
That was very impressive! Never heard of this ride prior to watching this video. That's a super clever ride, and here I thought it was going be a cheap knock off of the HM. I tip my hat to creatives of this ride, from beginning to gift shop, flawlessly executed!
Its actually tied to the previous Efteling ride that was once in the spot, Spookslot which was a unique show sort of attraction. Efteling's youtube channel has the details and special videos for the old ride and the development of this one.
@@sirose they will be visible after the ride system upgrade. The platform will tilt more and the freefall wil be longer. The catacombs are not finished yet
I visited the Intamin booth at IAAPA this week and saw the ride system models and congratulated the folks on it. It's really not so much the system but what the park was able to create around it...an elegant yet "macabre" and very impressive themed experience.
I wonder if this ride system could be retrofitted into the two circular theaters that sit empty in Tomorrow Land in Magic Kingdom. The old Stitch theaters still set empty and take up a lot of valuable real estate in the middle the land.
It's awesome, right? I'm not sure if it is worth waiting two to six hours for. I was lucky. My wife got in line after the park opened while I went to another attraction with my kids. She had to wait 90 minutes total, with 50 minutes of that being the wait until the rides opened. (Most rides are still closed for the first hour after opening.) And with the baby switch possibility, I was able to go in after she got out, skipping a large chunk of the line. The first moment I had to wait was in the part with the statue of Joseph Charlatan. It's a very cool experience. The video is cool, but it can't convey the sensations that happen in the dark. So, if you've never been on it and see this video, there are still surprises left for you.
That’s why it’s better to go on a workday . We went last Wednesday and did all the rides in the Efteling which we wanted to do AND got to ride Danse Macabre 3 times as well, the wait time was like 50/60 minutes which is perfectly fine for a new ride. Would not want to be there on openingsday
@SfinxVid i was there last Monday. Thought that the Fall vacation was over but still lots of schools were free that day. But like i said. I didn't had to wait long either
This is a home run! Absolutely awesome. If disney had any creatives left in the company this ride would be in avengers campus with a dr. strange storyline. But the true creatives work at Efteling and so we have dance macabre. What a great ride.
Can Disneyland Paris make a Beauty and the Beast attraction witht his ride system? Just imagine starting dancing through "Be our guest" and ending at the ballroom 😍
DLP congratulations with your incredible way of filming rides. I got goosebumps seeing this full "Danse macabre" experience. the fully themed line, the atmosphere, lightning, smoke effects, sounds... it's absolutly stunning. The Efteling is doing things the way Disney does (when they have the budget). The gift shop and merch look amazing. Can'twait to ride this ride myself. Thank you.
LG Tim
Basically there’s a cat that can turn into a demonic monster and it killed an entire orchestra conducted by Joseph Charlatan performing one night at the abbey. They are doomed to perform the Danse macabre forever and ever. If you watch the making of the ride on the Efteling TH-cam channel, you get little snippets of the backstory. That’s why you see the cat everywhere. There’s also a notice board in the land with pictures of the dead orchestra players that you see on the ride.
This is the story in short as efteling shared it. (I hope the translation isnt weird due to google translate) Long, long ago, on Friday the 13th of the year 1876, the entire orchestra of the idiosyncratic conductor Joseph Charlatan disappeared here during an international music competition. After a masterful performance of the piece Danse Macabre, they were mercilessly devoured by ‘The Unnameable’, Evil, which still haunts these parts today and manifests itself as a monstrous, feline creature. Are you brave enough to enter the Huyverwoud and take a seat in one of the sinister choir stalls? A ghost spectacle full of dark twists awaits you in the abbey…
The black cat also has a big part in the story. he/she is the unnameable or is possesed by the unnameable(im not sure). And when you board the ride you have the centre piece of the attraction with the old instruments. You can see the black cat. and when the lightning strikes the cat transforms into a monster that is why the centre piece comes up. And during the rest of the ride you see some of the dead playing the instruments. And you can see monks, the voilin, that played a huge part in the ride that danse macabre replaced. And if im not mistaken you also see some ghostlike figures. And some other small stuf that is hard to discribe.
The cat/The unnameable killed and cursed Joseph and his orchestra because they played Danse Macabre really well. The cat cursed them to play it every night for its entertainment and wanting a show. The cat even wants you to enjoy the show since dark portion in the ride, the heavy footsteps you hear is it moving around and the screeching noises you hear is it moving the choir stalls to face the organ. There is always one choir stall facing the organ, and the cameraman in this video is sitting on that one, its why you hear five screeches instead of six. The Otto and Virginie Charlatans want to solve the mystery of Joseph, but the cat was angry to them, more on the Charlatans "taking money from the mortal's backs" (as in they're quacks, they actually want your money and do not care about Joseph) and not wanting to hear the music. This is in the opening ceremony show. The reason why this story is odd because an effect on the ride is not working yet and Eftling is still trying to fix it.
