SSBU is a literally "will never happen again" event. Sakurai literally went to the hospital more than once from exhaustion to get this game accomplished, sometimes working 100+ hours a week. So many of these matchups happened over face to face meetings, many dependent on how much Sakurai is respected in the dev community. Kingdom Hearts took YEARS to untangle from licensing hell, which is why Sora is Ultimate's final character. Another factor is Bandai-Namco's habit of giving guest characters from other games massive amounts of both technical and lore respect: (see Tekken and Soul Calibur)
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames It's a marvel of game making. When Sakurai said they were going to make a game with EVERY character from the previous games he was meet with stunned silence from his staff.
"Kingdom Hearts took YEARS to untangle from licensing hell," And we just now learned it was NEVER about licensing it was just Tetsuya Nomura refusing to let Sora be in it
The honestly coolest thing about Smash brothers is how it evolved from just being a brawler of Nintendo icons to including characters from all over gaming as a whole. I still remember being in complete disbelief way back when they first showed Solid Snake being introduced, thought it was a joke.
Well... For Snake I was surprise but thought: "Well he started his carrer on the nitendo...then got a remake of Soli 1 on Gamecube so, it make sense." Same for Ryu. The moment I thoght "this is crazy" was with Cloud. Sur Final Fantasy was on the Nitendo but Cloud was a Sony exclu. Then with Ultimate... Oh man... The pure maddness. Culminating in the most imposible character ever: Sora.
But to be honest there will probably never be another smash Bros again, or if there is it's not going to be able to achieve the same stuff this one good or it's going to be a good decade before they even think about it again
well even though Sakurai is done doing Smash stuff, i hope that the Franchise doesnt end, since we've opened the doors for anyone to join in on the fun, it would suck for it to end here.
Fun Facts: -Ridley is named after Ridley Scott, the director of the movie Alien, as Metroid was heavily inspired by it. -DK, Diddy, and K. Rool all cheer for Banjo and Kazooie because they were all from the same development team, Rare, before Microsoft bought them out. -Sephiroth snagging Marios overalls is a reference to the Final Fantasy movie, where he straight up stabs Cloud in the chest in the same manner. -Joker was announced at the Game Awards, where he hijacked the show to feature his reveal. -Sakurai, Smash's creator, grew up playing Fatal Fury, the game Terry is from. Having him in the game was a dream come true for him. Without Fatal Fury and King of Fighters, Smash likely wouldn't exist. -Kayzua throwing people off the cliff is a reference to his father throwing him off a cliff to test if he was a demon, which he did to him years later as revenge. -Sakurai also created Kirby, whom is the sole survivor of an attack from the main villain of the games story. Favoritism, right? -Minecraft is the world's highest selling game of all time, even above Mario. -Nintendo had a huge legal hill to climb to get Sora in the game, whom, as I'm sure you already know, is owned by Disney.
The director of the Sonic movies has recently said he'd love to make a Smash Bros. movie. Would be interesting to see how you could fit so many characters into a movie and give them all screen time.
There's a fanmade we series called "There Will Be Brawl" that puts the cast of Super Smash Bros. Brawl in a gruesome slum setting. A looot of people died.
Joker is from Persona 5, and all of the people speaking over the trailer are the Phantom Thieves, of which Joker is the leader. I highly recommend checking out the Persona series, as they have some truly great cinematics.
Some context for the ones you guys didn’t know about (Becuase I like explaining things 😅): - Inklings are from Splatoon, basically Nintendo’s FPS without an actual guns or murder. They’re half kid, half squid, and the games about covering an area with more ink than the other team. That and the colorful urban style, it’s a very popular series despite like 2 games, about to be 3. Yeah they were part of the reveal trailer for the game Itself Becuase no one was surprised they were in. - Ridleys kinda the main villain of Metroid (I assume you guys know Metroid at least in name) in the sense that he’s the most iconic and refusing to stay dead. Big space dragon, intelligent, leader of space pirates, might’ve eaten Samus’ parents in front of her, yeah he’s a little evil. Was a big request for a long while. And as you can imagine, he’s a lot smaller in game, which is where the big time thing is from. - Simon is obvious with Castlevania, but Richter is his descendent who basically had the same job of killing Dracula except he’s a bit more fun and less serious than Simon. Hes an echo fighter for Simon, basically meaning different character, but they play about the same. - K Rools kinda the same in being the big bad of Donkey Kong heavily demanded by fans. He was the final boss in a lot of the older games…. Then he just stopped appearing until smash. He’s a big evil leader of crocodiles who just hates DK and his family and keeps trying to defeat Becuase he’s a jerk. - idk if you guys know Animal Crossing, it’s basically a life sim with adorable animals, so it’s pretty much the most casual easygoing game ever and its great. Isabelle was the secretary of the mayor (aka the player and the first AC character in smash) and she got REALLY popular, basically the mascot for the series, so actually a lot of people kinda expected her and we were right. -Plant was kinda a troll. Like in the reveal, no one thought it was a fighter until it started moving. It was pretty much a bonus character in Becuase why not? And also yknow fun and creative moveset. -Ken is also an echo for Ryu, but because it’s Ken and he’s already similar to Ryu, he has the most different moves for the echoes. Everyone expected him as an echo.😅 -Incineroar is one of the starters from Gen 7 of Pokémon I think. Wrestling Tiger cat, the moveset wrote itself. -Joker is from Persona 5, an RPG series that was a spin off of a different series, Shin Megami Tensei, but is almost it’s own beast now. The games are really popular, but P5 was ULTRA popular, (and really really good; recommend it’s rerelease, P5 Royal). Jokers the Protag, base background cause I don’t wanna spoil: regular high school student, part of a gang of “phantom thieves” which is not as illegal as it sounds, incredibly stylish, they have “personas” which are basically physical powers of their personalities that only work in a different dimension, its a lot to explain but trust me, makes sense. - Dragon Quest is ABSURDLY popular in Japan apparently, and basically any RPG that exists is inspired by it as it’s the definition of turn based combat (also made by the same company who made FF so yeah you guys were half right). So for smash, it’s the 4 heroes from 4 different games as skins for one hero, as they really aren’t that distinct and are the self insert kinda protags. -Banjos and Kazooie are from….. well Banjo Kazooie, platformers long dormant with no new games for years despite beloved classics. Man they got tears outta people they were so requested and missed. Not much to explain, they’re a tag team duo, Banjos the dumb nice bear, Kazooies the sassy aggressive bird.🙂 -Luckily you guy reacted to KOF 15, you guys know Terry. Still the mascot of that entire company, so he got the invite. -Byleth is from Fire Emblem Three Houses, tactical RPG series all in different medieval fantasy universes. It’s the latest game, Both versions of Byleth being teachers at an academy who basically teaches kids how to fight in wars…. Then a war happens. They bring the weapons of the house leader of the game (yes like hogwarts it’s very similar to that idea just not magic only) along with that whip sword. -Min Mins from ARMS, a fighting game about people with long springey arms of various uses. Sadly that game didn’t sell that well despite being a fun game (I blame it being too expensive) but the arms make a fun smash character so they were added in anyway. Min Mins not the face of the game, but she is the most popular character (even by the makers) so she was the fighter. -Yeah everyone knows Steve. Funny story: the reveal of it actually broke Twitter. Like right after Twitter stopped working for a bit. It was that surprising!😅 - Sephiroth is just iconic in general so he needs no introduction. -Pyra and Mythra are from Xenoblade Chronicles 2, an ARPG game that’s a personal favorite of mine. Explaining the plot would be a little much, just that the kid (Rex) is more or less the co main character with those two, but for reasons involving how the combat of that game works, these two were chosen as fighters without Rex (also that they’re very popular, they get fan art on the daily). Yes they’re part of the same body, it’s complicated. - You guys know Tekken, Kazuyas more or less the face of the series aside from his dad Heihachi. -And of course Sora. No explanation needed, just that there was an official poll a long while back, and apparently Sora was the top pick. No Disney is in the game of course aside from the Mickey keychain (would hate to have to license that out). Man this took a while, sorry it’s so long, glad you guys enjoyed these even if you didn’t know the characters. 👍
The persona series is definitely a must watch for its openings and songs also great reaction I loved it and thanks to you guys I had a wave of nostalgia since I remember all my reactions for all the reveals especially the last one even tho sephiroth’s is my favorite. To give a little exposition sora being the last is widely considered a gift from sakurai the creator of smash and also from iwata since it was near impossible to bring in a Disney character in smash. This game is definitely an important part of history and pop culture and I’m glad you got to see parts of what made it so great
usually when a new character gets added to smash, that includes a new stage as well as new music and sometimes new Mii Fighter costumes and other goodies. my favorite reveal was Sephiroth. easily one of my top favorite FF villains and RPG characters. Interesting tidbits: Sephiroth is the main villain of Final Fantasy VII. his sword, Masamune, is like 8-9ft long and only he is capable of wielding it. Would take a lot of spoilage and other lore to explain, but simply put, sephiroth sorta cant completely die. anytime hes been defeated, he goes back to the Lifestream (the life stream is basically where souls go when things die and contains the memories of all who have lived. it is the blood of the planet essentially) and given enough time, he eventually comes back. thats why he says he will never be a memory. the angelic form you see him take at the end of his trailer is his final form during the original FF7 final boss fight. Funfact: Sephiroth is the only character in all of Final Fantasy who has his name chanted during his boss music. the music is called One Winged Angel. for example, these are the first set of lyrics in his music: Estuans interius Ira vehementi Estuans interius Ira vehementi Sephiroth Sephiroth there is a meme that basically plays on the idea of, when the music starts singing in latin, you know the boss is about to get super serious
Ah...He/She beat me to it lol --------------------------------------------------------------------- Not to mention that he is not completely human....he was the perfect specimen to be infused with Jenova cells, ( Jenova is a 2,000 year old extraterrestrial, shape-shifting being who may be rumored to be older than the planet Gaia itself that came in invasion means to wipe out the Cetra who is in turn humanity's ancestors ) hence why any creature infused with these cells will most likely bear a wing appendage. This is why he has superior strength, agility, endurance, great healing factor and so much more.....you also saw a meteor in the background of his trailer.....in the game franchise he used Black Materia to summon Meteor which would've injured the planet and exposing its core, Sephiroth wanted to absorb the Lifestream in order to become a god that will be more than able to bend the rules of reality to his will. And the one reason why he always comes back is because of his undying hatred of Cloud and his indomitable will....which prevents the Lifestream from absorbing him --------------------------------------------------------------------- But like the previous comment...no more spoiling lol, unless I want to get the duct tape.....so I encourage you two lovebirds to check out the FFVII lore regarding Sephiroth, Jenova, Lifestream and Meteor. This is Ero Solaria.....stay safe and take care
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames of course! You guys should do a reaction to two animated music videos by a group called Big Bad Bosses. One is called Angel a song involving sephiroth himself The other, imagine if 4 of gaming's most iconic villains made a boyband. That's where I'm the Boss, comes in lol They are very well animated and sung by some fairly well known TH-camrs like The Completionist
It is actually refreshing seeing a quiet reaction video. I remember when these came out everyone was screaming at each little clue on whos the next character is. Just some fun facts to hammer in how massive this game is: 89 playable characters 450 iconic games featured 1100+ songs included 2200+ guest characters This truly deserves the title fans gave it "videogames: The game"
Damn when you break down the stats you get to see how epic the game is 😯😀🤩 Our style of reaction isn’t for everyone but we watch stuff “normally” if that makes sense haha. Like we watch it how we would if you were just hanging out watching stuff with your friends. Talking over everything all the time makes you miss stuff. Glad you enjoyed the reaction. 🤗🙂
I might not be a Kingdom Hearts fan but having Smash Ult and Sakurai finishing up his work on Smash after all these years since 64 with Sora is honestly a beautiful and fitting finish. Only Sakurai and his ties with so many of his peers in industry can accomplish something like this and taking one of the biggest Crossover media IP created that is Kingdom Hearts finally getting into Smash, the biggest IP game mix that's not just some skins is really something. Considering the legal nightmares that is the Kingdom Hearts series due to each music piece, Square Enix and Disney's shared ownership on even just body parts of Sora, like it's truly amazing how this game turned out. Sakurai has such love and attention to detail for each of these franchises he adds in, and even in just the trailers there's easter eggs that ref things that happen in the games.
Funny thing is before Sora's reveal I hated the idea of Sora in Smash because of the issue of representation of copyrighted non-video game original content. But Sora's reveal instantly changed my mind, and the trailer was executed so flawlessly that I couldn't be mad about it. Sora being the final fighter, him being most requested, and the shot with Sora and Mario shaking hands was perfect.
Smash isn't about having your favorite character always introduced, and Sora wasn't mine. Not that I dislike him, but many fans wanted it. That coupled with the difficulty of making it happen, and how long they worked on it. It was a very fitting end to Smash, as we know it, if it's the end. I couldn't have imagined a better one. That character announcement made a lot of people happy, he wasn't replacing anyone either, if they didnt get him it just would have been one less character.
@@sfodd1979 Right!? As someone who's never played KH and never even seen a full playthrough of any of the games, I feel like Sora was the perfect choice for a "finale". The trailer even makes me emotional.
you guys should've watched the "Everyone Is Here" trailer to have a dimension of the magnitude of this game. it's not just a party fighter, it's a celebration of video games as a whole.
Sora's trailer being the last one is also kinda special. He wasn't my personal most-wanted, but... back when the previous Smash game was released for the Wii U, Nintendo held a poll on who the fans wanted in the most. They revealed the #2 and that was Bayonetta, but they did not reveal who the number 1 was. It was Sora, but... him being owned by both Disney and Square-Enix and maybe even some other things made it especially difficult to get him in. So... for Smash 4 it never happened. Especially Disney is very strict with others using their licenses. So at the very end of the next Smash game, the impossibility that is Sora was actually made possible. Heck, even the director Sakurai pretty much said it was a lot of work and a nightmare to get him in. I think it's especially surprising that Disney actually let them use Mickey's face as a keyblade chain, I'd have expected them to have changed it. But still... no Waluigi.
@@thenonexistinghero Sakurai said in an interview shortly after Sora's reveal that Banjo was actually number 2 after Sora. Bayonetta was #1 in Europe and high enough on the charts around the world to warrant her inclusion because she was the easiest out of what was asked to negotiate. Top 5 more than likely and for entirely new characters to smash I would even say top 3 but who knows.
Here’s the thing about Sora’s trailer, the one thing separating it from all the other trailers here, and what makes it the best reveal of all of them. It’s the one trailer that produces a different emotion. Almost every other Smash reveal can be described with a single word: hype. “Holy shit, they added Steve to Smash!?” “Oh my gosh, Sephiroth is finally in the game!” These characters definitely mean a lot to people, hell, Minecraft is half my childhood, but Sora’s reveal can’t really be described at all. Every trailer had immense hype, except for maybe Min Min, and Sora is no different. However, the one key difference, is that you will never see someone cry over the Sephiroth reveal, no matter how sick his inclusion is. But watch anybody’s reaction to Sora, and they probably scream out right as they see the Mickey key chain. Trailer direction is one thing, but this is it, this was the final reveal for the game, it would be wrong if it didn’t have sense of grandiose to it. This is all coming from someone who has never even played Kingdom Hearts before, I couldn’t even tell you what it was about, yet here I am. I couldn’t care less about some of these characters: Byleth, Min Min, Pyra and Mythra, Simon and Richter Belmont, and even Ridley, but this game wasn’t meant just for me, it was meant for literally everyone, you’d be hard-pressed to find someone who looks at Ultimate’s roster and can’t a character they love. That’s the beauty of Smash in a nutshell.
Very well said on the style of Soras trailer and how it wasn’t so much about the hype but just the feeling of finality and ☺️. Emoji sums it up best. Music is key to that feeling for sure 😊
Indeed, I say to myself that it is necessary for all, personally the arrival of Sora did not please me more than that because I never played Kindome Heart on the other hand there were other announcements where I farted my skull, that of Sephiroth is the best example, I did not believe that my favorite villain is one day in smash
Almost 4 years later and I'm still in shock from Simon's announcement. I'm a die-hard fan of both Castlevania and Smash and never did I think the two franchise would cross-over. Honestly, I was hoping for Alucard but a Belmont is just a great as The Alucard
To be fair, Simon was always gonna be the first in line when it comes to repping Castlevania. Being the protagonist of the first game just grants him that inherently iconic status. Alucard did at least get in as an Assist Trophy, though.
@@theherohartmut which is a fair point, Simon was quite literally destined for Smash however Castlevania: Symphony of the Night was the first video game I ever played so Alucard holds a special place in my heart when it comes to the world of video games, aka, Smash Brothers
Hey at least you could risk having Alucard either fight for you or kick your ass via assist trophy. That's definitely better than nothing. (Also his assist trophy model is so beautiful.)
fun fact since it was mentioned in the Sephiroth reveal about how long his hair ism it canonically takes one bottle of shampoo to wash his hair. every. time.
What makes KOF being in Smash so cool is the fact that the latter is actually inspired from it. From the mechanics to some modes to even the whole All Stars concept, not to mention the director is also a huge fanboy of the series. So seeing KOF, the reason why smash even exist finally join after all these years is such a treat.
The moment I saw keyblade and Mickey emblems, it literally had me in tears. Sora and Kingdom Hearts series is the video game that got me to love the word, Crossover. I cries in tears of joy as I see one of my childhood most favorite character return to life, but in Smash, wish do come true after all. Say, I saw you guys reacted to both Smite and League of legends trailer, why not DOTA 2 as well? It's also one of the top MOBA game out there. There are fews officials cinematic trailers of them though.
When I saw that bonfire, I thought it was Dark Souls time and I don't even like those games and then Sora popped out and I drank a bunch of tears because an FE fan, I had all the characters I wanted once Byleth was in.
Fun fact: the creator of Jojo's Bizarre Adventures and the creator of the Persona series are influenced by one another! JJBA part 4 directly influenced the creation of Persona 4, and the JJBA anime was stylistically influenced by the Persona series. While it's hard to say whether the Stands/Personas are a direct copy of one over the other, it's pretty obvious there's a reference happening. Both of them are super fun and I really recommend the Persona series if you ever want to get into another game franchise :D
The most brilliant thing about Smash (Especially in recent years) is that it so easily introduces people to new game series. The biggest example of this being the introduction of Marth in Brawl (? I think). At the time the Fire Emblem series was was Japan exclusive even though it was one of nintendo's oldest franchises. Because of Marth's inclusion in Smash there was a lot of interest Fire Emblem and the games started being translated (with Awakening and Three Houses basically turning the series into one of Nintendo's main pillar franchises). In terms of what was introduced in Ultimate I would look into: Persona, Fire Emblem, Dragon Quest, and Xenoblade. All of these games have amazing trailers and openings with really great stories and characters. (I would also recommend Kingdom Heart's but you guys seem already quite familiar with the series)
@@RomnilWater For reference's sake, Marth and Roy were introduced in Melee, and Path of Radiance!Ike in Brawl. ( Radiant Dawn!Ike was the model used in 4, and Ultimate uses both models.) Marth WAS intended for the first game, to provide a contrast to Link, but time constraints forced him onto the cutting board. Bowser, Mewtwo, and King Dedede were left out for similar reasons. Interestingly, it was considered for Fox to have his teammates as alternate costumes, akin to Olimar or Bowser Jr.
That’s a good point because seeing these trailers definitely got us interested in seeing some more series that have been on our list for awhile. So much to explore still 😀
- *Inkling:* Their reveal trailer (and the first confirmation trailer for Smash Bros. Ultimate) mimics the animation that started Splatoon's announcement video. - *Ridley:* The fact that Samus is accompanied by Mario and Mega Man could be another nod to the movie Alien (with a strong female lead, allied with human and android soldiers). - *Simon/Richter:* This trailer was actually the very first public appearance of the Poltergust G-00 and its Suction Shot function, which would be seen in Luigi's Mansion 3. - *Isabelle:* Some reactors didn't get that Isabelle was talking about her mayor going to both Smash Bros. For 3DS/Wii U and Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp. - *Piranha Plant:* This seems to be out of order...It was actually shown after Ken and Incineroar (in the same presentation). - *Ken/Incineroar:* This seems to be the only time that two newcomers from different groups are shown in the same trailer (save for Brawl's announcement trailer, I guess). - *Joker:* In case you're wondering, Joker's gun is actually an airsoft pistol. The Metaverse's cognitive powers (where Personas' powers are brought out) just make it fire realistic-feeling "bullets". All the Phantom Thieves use airsoft firearms as side weapons (a shotgun, an SMG, a sniper rifle, a revolver, a grenade launcher, even a slingshot). - *Hero:* These four Heroes' official names are: Eleven (DQ11), Arusu (DQ3), Solo (DQ4), and Eight (DQ8). Their Final Smash, Gigaslash, features the Heroes from the other seven Dragon Quests (1, 2, 5, 6, 7, 9, 10). (Before anyone tries to say it, "Luminary" and "Erdrick" are titles, not names.) - *Banjo & Kazooie:* "Raring To Go" is of course their connection to the Donkey Kong Country characters (Rareware/Rare). Also, K. Rool received the same fate as Gruntilda in Banjo-Kazooie. - *Terry:* The other characters in his trailer are from several SNK fighting games: The King of Fighters (Kyo Kusanagi and Iori Yagami), ART OF FIGHTING (Ryo Sakazaki), Fatal Fury (Andy Bogard, Joe Higashi, and Geese Howard), and Samurai Shodown (Nakoruru). - *Byleth:* "I see - too many swordsmen, are there?" This is proof that the Smash team really knows how to collect comedy material, heh. (With Byleth carrying a lance, axe, and bow, the Fire Emblem roster in Smash now officially represent the most recurring weapons in their series.) - *Min Min:* This was the first time Sakurai called in Ryo Horikawa, the voice of Captain Falcon, to record lines - and all for slurping ramen. - *Steve:* His neutral special differs depending on his position - Mine while on the ground, Create Block while in midair, and Craft while just near his crafting table (to repair and/or upgrade his gear). - *Sephiroth:* This is LOADED with Advent Children references. Besides the obvious two - Cloud's outfit and the music playing - there's also the way Sephiroth swirls the dark clouds, his "impaling" of Mario (except not really since it's a joke), the Omnislash ver. 5, "Go back to where you belong, in my memories." "I will never be a memory.", wrapping himself in his wing... - *Pyra & Mythra:* If you're wondering about their conversation with Shulk, Xenoblade 2 has DLC that includes a special arena mode, where Shulk, Fiora, and Xenoblade X's Elma act as guest-star Blades. It's pretty early in the game, so don't worry. (Oh, bonus: Mythra's appearance here was actually made by Smash for her Spirit in the base game. Limit exposed skin and all that. This look got so popular that Xenoblade 2 got a free update with a special Aux Core that grants Mythra this look.) - *Kazuya:* Yeah, tossing opponents over a cliff is kind of a tradition he picked up from his father Heihachi (when he tossed the young Kazuya over a cliff). - *Sora:* Have you heard Smash Bros. Ultimate's main theme, Lifelight? Its lyrics fittingly work well with this trailer's situation.
Hmm. Jokers powers for the gun seem similar to Orcs in 40k. If they believe the gun has ammo then it has ammo and they can make anything possible just with imagination. Similar to turning an air soft gun into a real gun. 🙂🤗
Smash’s huge roster is incredibly impressive. It was always so much fun to see who’d make it in Smash throughout the years. So many videogame icons all together in one spot.
Do you know how Kingdom Hearts was the result of a chance encounter in an elevator? The same thing happened here for Sora. There is a video that overlays Lifelight over the KH3 opening. The lyrics line up surprisingly well with the visuals, especially if you know the context behind the characters (the song even has the same ending notes as the orchestral openings that play if you stay on the start menu long enough) . The best part about it is that the video was posted two years before the final character reveal. Isabelle's trailer was paired up with Tom Nook announcing the next Animal Crossing game. The Street Fighter songs were arranged by Yoko Shimomura. Before Mario and Luigi/Kingdom Hearts, she composed most of the music for Street fighter II. All of Captain Falcon's lines were recorded for the first Smash Bros.( This includes his Final Smash, as they were intended for that game.) His voice actor came back over a decade later just to record slurping sounds.
The captain falcon part isnt true. Until sm4sh, he came in and re-performed each line in each game. Its while each line has different qualities and performances. You cannot tell me the "show me your moves" and "falcon punch" is the exact same as it was in melee/64 🤦♀️
I like Ryu and Ken reveal trailers. Also their soundtracks in this game are sick! All tho, Ryu's theme was taken from CD version of Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo for 3DO, but Ken's theme is unique to this game.
Uh...no? Ryu has a unique theme exclusively for his inclusion in Smash as well starting at his debut in Smash 4. Ryu and Ken both have their unique versions of their themes as well as the Arcade and 3DO versions of their themes all in Smash Ultimate as optional background music you can use for the Suzaku Castle stage. You must've been confused or your memory may have been a bit off there man.
@@anthonydeadman Nope. I was not confused. This is his theme: th-cam.com/video/GLUoPZPuPHc/w-d-xo.html It sounds the same as in Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo on 3DO only with added more drums.
@@deathcold_longplaysua4846 If you actually think that sounds exactly the same piece to musical peice, then your hearing must be really off bro. There was a lot of work put into this remix when it was re-made for Smash 4 and to say it was just ripped straight off of a past game instead of pain stakingly made from scratch as a special occasion, is rather disrespectful to the folks responsible for it's creation as well as it being disrespectful to it's lead composer Yoko Shimomura. Shame on you.
@@anthonydeadman Shame on me? For what? For speaking the truth? It is just the same track only with more drums added in. And i don't have problems with my hearing. But again, i never said that it is a bad thing that they used the same track. It is a good thing. Because, that version of the track that they re used is one of the best out there. So yeah, shame on me? Nah, shame on YOU for twisting the meaning of what i said in to your own direction, to prove youself as the smartest guy in the room, trying to make everyone else look like a fool. Now excuse me, but i have a war in my country to worry about.
I can explain this one: The twin characters Pyra/Mythra is from Xenoblade Chronicles 2. They are both Blades and a 500+ year old Goddesses. Blades are organic weapons given life that can walk and speak like humans and fight and live with their partners. The thing with blades is that they are immortal & can't eat and once their partner dies, their memories of living their lives with their partner will be erased and rebooted themselves. Pyra/Mythra does have a 3rd form, but that's a huge story spoilers. However, them meeting with Shulk, the 1st game's protag, again is actually canon because of the DLC where Shulk traveled to alternative universe. As for Persona. The Persona series was actually inspired by JoJo, but instead of being inspired by music albums or bands, the Persona monsters were based off of mythological creatures or historical figures. Joker's persona is called Arsene, who was named after Arsene Lupin, the Gentlemen Thief and Sherlock Holmes's greatest rival.
Seeing this viewed from a "generalized" eye is mighty amusing. You see, I am a Mario aficionado, having owned dozens and dozens of games on his series. Among these are all of the Super Smash Bros. games. I like watching the two of you.
Glad you enjoyed the reaction! Bethany grew up playing the first couple Mario games but other than that a lot of Nintendo games are pretty foreign to us. 🤗
I can still remember when they announced Joker as the first DLC character during the 2018 Game Awards. That is the only game trailer other than the Metroid Prime 4 announcement that has brought me to tears. I vividly remember jumping out of my chair and screaming the second I saw the Smash logo on the envelope. Persona 5 is one of my favorite games, but Smash is probably the most legendary franchise to exist. Seeing the two together was magical for me.
48:05 Oh my god! Super impressed that Ken made that connection! Joker is a character from the Persona games, which is part of a series called "Shin Megami Tensei", which take light inspiration by the Jojo's Bizarre Adventures manga between their use of Tarot cards to form the identity of those "astral projections" you saw, and the concept of them in the first place.
so. im sure SOMEONE said it down the line. but JUST in case >.< the first trailer. the Smash reveal trailer...it was kind of a "rug pull" those 2 chars are inkling. from Nintendo's ever cute "splatoon" shooter game. so at first glance it was assumed either a splatoon update reveal or the reveal of splatoon 3 (cant remember if smash was before or after the "final update") but when she turned around and saw the flaming smash logo it was,in reality, a "smash is coming out and the Inklings are the first official "new characters"" reveal...which kinda makes the, albeit simple, first teaser REALLY more of a surprise for us...cuz of the initial assumptions of a different game entirely. (same with issebelle. was SURE that was gonna be animal cross reveal which we had rumors off too, lol)
I love how Cloud didn't even need to see Sephiroth to know it was him. The fact that a God of Light was cut in half was all he needed to figure out that his BFF was following him Also it's canon that every time Sephiroth bathes, he has to use an entire bottle of shampoo and conditioner for his hair
There will probably never ever be another fighting game like smash ultimate. The likelihood of being able to get together all of the characters that this game did in order to have them fight one another again is so small that you might as well not even think about it. Watching all these characters get revealed and added to the already expansive smash cast was probably the most hype gaming event in ages, and I am so glad that I was around to witness it.
I like the idea that, whoever reads the smash invite first is the one gets to join. Like the beings behind sending the invite are just throwing an envelope to a general area and see who gets to take it.
Sora trailer has some neat details to it. That fire ball was in the first smash ultimate trailer, which was the trailer for squidling. This is why she's shown more prominently at first. Mario is of course pretty much the face of nintendo, and in the character selection screen is the first character. Sora was also the most wanted character during a poll on the previous game. To top it off, Sora's final smash is closing the smash door. Where squidling opened the door, Sora closed it.
These trailers got so many people freaking out, because so many of these characters had been highly requested for years. Ridley, Banjo-Kazooie, and Sora in particular had people (myself included admittedly) crying tears of joy because they had been requested for so long. Also, Sephiroth is just my personal favorite character in all of fiction, so you can only imagine how hard I was freaking out when he was revealed. If you want to get more into his story, I would recommend checking out Final Fantasy VII, both the original and the remake.
So Joker was the first DLC pack character, and he was actually revealed at the Game Awards, the day before Smash Ultimate released. His reveal trailer differs a fair bit from his release trailer(the vid featured here), particularly taking its time to show its hand of being Smash related. Persona 5 had been nominated for GOTY the prior year, so the Phantom Thieves crashing the stream was certainly unexpected, but felt bizarrely perfect. Man, I screamed so hard when that envelope materialized, my throat was hoarse for days. I still hunt down live reactions every now and then when I want to relive the hype. Persona 5 is 1000% a game I’d recommend anyone give a try. If it’s reaction material you’re looking for, and assuming you don’t mind spoiling the authentic experience, Joker’s Awakening is a good choice of scene that leaves a strong impression on most players.
The Banjo-Kazooie reveal really got me. Donkey Kong is a Nintendo property but he was never really more than a villain to Mario until Rareware made the Donkey Kong Country games, from which Diddy Kong and King K. Rool came from. They were cheering on the arrival of their cousins from the same developer.
People in NA were dumb about it, but Hero's reveal was a HUGE deal in japan. It's basically every main character from Dragon Warrior, which is just as big if not bigger in Japan then Final Fantasy is here. It was a long time coming :P
@@Underworlder5 The composer of Dragon Quest, who recently passed, was very anti-american and would sabotage the game's release in America just for spite
We are posting Tekken reactions next week and wish we would’ve seen it first because once we learned more we got the volcano bit and we already enjoyed it without the context. Having the context just makes it that much more perfect 😂
the form that Sephiroth took at the end of his trailer was his god form, in Final Fantasy 7 he absorbs a ton of energy from the Lifestream to come back from death as well as become even more powerful than he was in life, as Cloud defeated him in the past.
As a xenoblade fan i will always remember pyra and mythra's announcement , they really choosed the best soundtracks for it and the cgi parts are amazing , i love the fact that they made an entire cutscene almost canon to Xenoblade 2 with Rex who's looking after her and travelling all over the world to find her
3:06 it's funny you mention Alien, because Metroid (The game Ridley and Samus are from) was inspired by those films with Ridley's design being based upon a Xenomorph
One of my favorite parts of the Tekken reveal is that the day before the trailer dropped someone tweeted out "I'm gonna be honest I don't think F-Zero fans are getting anything out of this direct, Nintendo is more likely to execute Captain Falcon on screen than to make another game" AND THEN IT HAPPENED, KAZUYA JUST EXECUTES HIM ON SCREEN
I remember that tweet but it wasn't about the likelihood of another F-Zero game. It was about how likely Nintendo was to "win E3", saying that they could execute Captain Falcon live on stage and still win.
Fun fact: Outside of the US & Japan. SNK (the creators of KOF, Fatal Fury, Metal Slug) is very popular in Latin countries like Mexico, and Spain. Any Latin store or restaurant you go there’s always a NeoGeo arcade cabinet.
The Sora one was amazing for many reasons. For many of us it was something we had been hoping for years would happen but never seemed possible because it was a licensing nightmare. This trailer was magic because it came full circle from the first reveal to the final one. Sora was definitely a very fitting final addition.
@@cykogamer6369 kingdom hearts was one of the biggest games for younger people on playstation. Odds are they probably just played it as a kid or teenager (depending on their age.). Even if they were adults kingdom hearts is a disney thing so it easily brings in casual players. Also a possibility they simple reacted to kingdom hearts stuff and know him
Seeing all these trailers in a row. Man, really shows how big of a celebration of the medium Smash is. Shame how a lot of the fandom has...issues. Something that was especially apparent with Kazuya.
Oooof the anticipation you get waiting for the new characters to be revealed was always something I loved! Bittersweet it’s at and end but seeing y’all react to them brought back some good memories ! 🍻
Kazuya has to be my favorite, just casually throwing every big smash hitter off a mountain lol Also funny Sora was added to Smash because people have being wanting him for at least 10+ years to be in the games, lots of people were betting on Sora, Goku or Dante to be potential characters. They finally did it
Specifically, there was a ballot for the final character to be added to Smash 4. Sora won, but Bayonetta was the highest ranked character that could feasibly be added at the time*. Other characters such as King K. Rool were also added based on this list. As a sign of how difficult negotiations were, Satoru Iwata was involved before his death (Ultimate itself was one of his last requests to Sakurai). That's at least six years. Relatedly, this series is a love letter to fighting games. The Mario/Sora handshake is based on Ryu and Cyclops' handshake from X-Men vs Street Fighter. Coincidentally, the first Smash game was made due to a conversation about having a game similar to Super Mario 64, adding more context to the circle that is the handshake. *They even mentioned at the time that Bayonetta wasn't number one, but it flew over most people's heads until Sora was revealed.
@@KorporalKReephdmkiytrecv69 it was for 4, not Ultimate. But because they were already developing Ultimate, Nintendo kept the negotiations going with Disney for Sora and had to keep it under wraps.
22:23 "Your brother's gonna come in too?" Well, Andy is in the background of the KOF stage, along with Joe who failed to catch the letter in the reveal trailer. Everyone who appears in the background of the KOF stage you've already seen in XIV. There is also Ralf and Clark (Rambo and Stryker), Chang and Choi (Iron ball and Freddy Kreuger), Kyo and Iori, Daimon, Tung, Kim, Athena, King and Yuri (the ones with the bicycle kick move), Ryo (The Invincible Dragon), Geese, Billy, Ryuji (the latter three are confirmed to be DLC in XV), Rock (Terry's adoptive son), and Blue Mary.
Speaking of the background characters, the Orochi saga representation in Smash is excellent but i wish they also had NESTS/Ash characters. I was actually shocked when they didn't even have K' and Kula, two of the most popular characters in the series
The amazing thing is that Japan originally wasnt going to release smash bros to the west in 1999. Now ultimate is the best selling fighting game just beating sf II. Incredible move
As someone who has been playing Smash since Melee on the GameCube, the series changed my life. Introducing me to so many characters, franchises, and genres. I would not be the person or gamer I am now. I'd say that my favorite reveal was Sephiroth, because after I saw that trailer, I knew I had to play Final Fantasy VII Remake. Each new character that came into Smash, practically made me want to play their game. Joker with Persona 5, Hero with Dragon Quest XI, etc. Games and series I probably would not have played otherwise.
What I really love about the smash reveals is all the little details that you can easily miss unless you're very familiar with either the characters in question or Smash itself. Few off the top of my head: 1. The bit where Dedede (The penguin guy) throws away his King K. Rool costume and starts laughing is a subtle/not so subtle joke about Sakurai being a bit of a troll. Not only was he the man behind the Smash Bros. series, but he has been the voice of King Dedede for some time. So in a sense, Dedede laughing was actually Sakurai laughing. 2. In Byleth's trailer, when the green haired girl goes "I see, too many swordsman are there?", that's a dig at the fandom itself, as one of the longest running complaints in the series is that there's too many characters with swords. 3. The one guy in Terry's trailer who fell off the tower trying to get the smash envelope is Geese Howard, Terry's arch enemy (if I remember correctly). Him falling off the tower is how he "died" in one of the Fatal Fury games. I could go on, but the point is there is a TON of fan service in these trailers and that's what I love most about them.
Sora is so special to us, especially the 80's kids because he is the embodiment of our childhood and childhood dreams. To be able to go to the different worlds of our beloved cartoon heroes, befriend them, join them in their adventures and even aid them in their stories without taking the center stage and spotlight. To be able to fight alongside and even against our beloved JRPG characters from the Final Fantasy franchise (Back then with Playstation 1 as the only console, Final Fantasy was all the hype when it comes to RPGs and they were all instant classics and to this day are considered pop culture icons in the gaming world), and to make things even better, we get to see them all in one game (Cloud, Squall, Yuffie, Tidus, Wakka and even the one regret we had in FF7: Aerith). Sora's story is the very definition of a crossover, and the one who started the very trend and concept of crossovers. So when asked to have a poll for who should be in this ultimate crossover fighting game, it is a no brainer to all gamers, and especially to us 80's gamers, that Sora is definitely it.
One thing I love about Smash trailers is that they always try to make things secret even with the subtle hints. Even if some results are mixed there is always some level of hype while other games just shadowdrop their trailers or reveals on social media, losing the surprise. (Multiversus) I think KOFXV showed a silhouette of the character a day before the reveal but has the name of the character in the title. Here’s a couple other things: -The flaming circle with the asymmetrical bisectors seen in the announcement and Sora’s reveal is the symbol of the series. -The smash invitation is based on the one from KOF.
Sephiroth's reveal trailer is still my favorite SMash reveal with just how hype the trailer goes and even uses his own theme "One-Winged Angel" my favorite theme from FF7 and that was just one of the many variations of the theme
Sephiroth was my favorite I think. One that's a bit of a weird side-bar that you could go through is the Tekken 7 trailer for the Geese Howard reveal, it's GREAT. My favorite was watching the live reactions because it was revealed at a big fighting game tournament, EVO I believe.
Nice! We actually are watching Geese vs Heihachi death battle on our other channel next week so now we should have some more context when we see that geese Howard reveal for smash 😀
Steve and Sepiroth's reveals we're my favorite. I liked Steve because he was in NY childhood a lot and I wanted to see him in smash. I remember being in a stream chat and everyone was joking about Steve being in smash. When it happened seconds later I got so excited but I was in online class at the time so I had to hold it. I was excited for Sepiroth because I wanted to show my older brother. I knew he was gonna get hyped at seeing Sepiroth lol
omg idk how i missed this video! I love this game and i’ve been trying to get it, hopefully i’ll get it soon lmao. im glad you guys decided to make this video!
Highly recommend playing Final Fantasy VII Remake, it's a blend of real-time hack & slash with tactical response and the story and music for that game is just so well done
I realize that this video is old now. but you asked what the smash logo means, its just a circle with a cross in it to represent crossovers and different video games crossing over into one game
It’s important to note how big some of these reveals were, even from the first party titles. For example, Ridley was a fan favorite first party character to put in for years, but Sakurai said that his model at the time would be “too big” and be a balancing issue (hence the “hits the big time” tagline). Joker was one Sakurai personally wanted, as he modeled the Smash Ultimate UI after Persona 5’s (and fun fact, he was revealed at the Game Awards the night Ultimate was releasing, and when he came out, the servers crashed from everyone trying to download the update). The Hero was a fun Square Enix inclusion for folks, as one of the artists for the series is Dragon Ball creator Akira Toriyama. Banjo & Kazooie were also huge fan favorites, but the license for them belonged to Rare (creators of the Donkey Kong Country games, hence them being in the trailer), who were acquired by Microsoft, paving the way for potential Xbox IPs joining like Minecraft. Terry and Kazuya being from other fighting games were like Ryu joining in Smash 4 (and Brazilians lost their minds for Terry as Fatal Fury/King of Fighters is a huge franchise there). Pyra and Mythra were also a wanted inclusion, and they even make a joke towards the fans wanting Rex to join, but couldn’t be put in due to technical limitations making it too difficult (the Xenoblade Chronicles series is definitely one to check out in the future for a Journey series, especially with XC3 coming out this year, Xenoblade X included as a spiritual spinoff). And Sora being in Smash is also a huge deal, being owned by Square Enix and Disney. Also, there’s a ton of references and nods to their respective series in each trailer if people know them. The Sephiroth trailer was a straight up recreation of his battle with Cloud in the Advent Children movie mixed with Smash
It’s nice when they can appeal to those that don’t know the series as well and maybe make them want to learn more, will also giving tons of Easter eggs for those that are fans of the franchise ☺️🥳
Terry is a lot more significant than the others. It's because of the fact that he is, in actuality, Sakurai's favorite fighting game character iirc. It was this character, and KOF'95 especially, that inspired Sakurai to pursue the idea of Smash in the first place. Without Terry and KOF'95, Smash would never have existed. It's crazy how Smash Ultimate is his Magnum Opus, and he was able to include his favorite character in it effectively, and it be a hit along with most other characters in the roster. That in itself is nothing short of amazing, a true example of a fulfillment of destiny and things coming full circle.
Ridley is the most popular villain in Metroid. That's why you see him saving Samus for last seeing her scared and going Zero Suit mode at the end to fight him. He was highly requested to be a playable character in Smash Bros since Gamecube.
Having just finished Dragon Quest XI a few weeks ago I'm happy to see it represented in Smash. I absolutely loved the game!! As far as Smash goes, I haven't played a Smash game since Brawl but I played it a crap ton back then.
Joker is the Protagonist of Persona 5 Persona is basically Gaurdians Joker has an ability called the Wild Card (the power to have a "deck" of personas to have in use) they choose Arsene specifically cause that's Jokers "awakened" persona
It just instantly put a smile on my face how you two reacted so happy and instantly knew what was going on, when Sora's Keyblade was revealed from the flames. Love you two, seriously, lmao.
Damn. Hadn’t realized all the work that went into bringing these characters into the game 😯🤯
*cough cough* soul caliber 5
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames It's a marvel of game making. When Sakurai said they were going to make a game with EVERY character from the previous games he was meet with stunned silence from his staff.
ya. a mix of japanese work culture and Sakurai being REALLY into make his dream project.
"Kingdom Hearts took YEARS to untangle from licensing hell,"
And we just now learned it was NEVER about licensing it was just Tetsuya Nomura refusing to let Sora be in it
The honestly coolest thing about Smash brothers is how it evolved from just being a brawler of Nintendo icons to including characters from all over gaming as a whole. I still remember being in complete disbelief way back when they first showed Solid Snake being introduced, thought it was a joke.
Well... For Snake I was surprise but thought: "Well he started his carrer on the nitendo...then got a remake of Soli 1 on Gamecube so, it make sense."
Same for Ryu.
Fornite
well even though Sakurai is done doing Smash stuff, i hope that the Franchise doesnt end, since we've opened the doors for anyone to join in on the fun, it would suck for it to end here.
@@SiegahertzCarmin technically, he started on the MSX
Fun Facts:
-Ridley is named after Ridley Scott, the director of the movie Alien, as Metroid was heavily inspired by it.
Sora fighting Sephiroth in Sora's reveal was reference to Sephiroth being a side-boss (hardest boss of all) in the first 2 Kingdom Hearts games.
Thanks for giving us some fun facts around the videos 😀
Last one is false, square enix owns sora, it was just difficult to add him because Disney was involved in kingdom hearts creation
@@KorporalKReephdmkiytrecv69 Yes, yes, semantics and all that. X)
@@KorporalKReephdmkiytrecv69 No, Disney owns Sora. Square simply develops the games.
The director of the Sonic movies has recently said he'd love to make a Smash Bros. movie. Would be interesting to see how you could fit so many characters into a movie and give them all screen time.
And if the copyright was a pain for the game can’t even imagine a movie 🤯
Wreck it Ralph was the closes we got to a smash movie lol
There's a fanmade we series called "There Will Be Brawl" that puts the cast of Super Smash Bros. Brawl in a gruesome slum setting.
A looot of people died.
It would be a licensing NIGHTMARE but I would love it
Would be the closest thing we would ever get to a metal gear solid movie

@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames
Way ahead of you
and yes, persona was inspired by jojo
Some context for the ones you guys didn’t know about (Becuase I like explaining things 😅):
- Inklings are from Splatoon, basically Nintendo’s FPS without an actual guns or murder.
Everyone expected him as an echo.😅
-Incineroar is one of the starters from Gen 7 of Pokémon I think.
Not much to explain, they’re a tag team duo, Banjos the dumb nice bear, Kazooies the sassy aggressive bird.🙂
-Luckily you guy reacted to KOF 15, you guys know Terry.
It was that surprising!😅
- Sephiroth is just iconic in general so he needs no introduction.
Beat me to it
Thanks for taking the time to write the is out for us. So THAT was animal crossing. Okay. Another popular game we know nothing about 😂
Don't worry. They recognized Sora.
Is Rex like a descendent of Shulk or is he his own character?
The persona series is definitely a must watch for its openings and songs also great reaction I loved it and thanks to you guys I had a wave of nostalgia since I remember all my reactions for all the reveals especially the last one even tho sephiroth’s is my favorite. To give a little exposition sora being the last is widely considered a gift from sakurai the creator of smash and also from iwata since it was near impossible to bring in a Disney character in smash. This game is definitely an important part of history and pop culture and I’m glad you got to see parts of what made it so great
Honestly Persona would be amazing to see them react to.
Persona reactions would be amazing

Glad we could give you that nostalgia hit ☺️ And Persona is a series we for sure need to check out at some point 😀
usually when a new character gets added to smash, that includes a new stage as well as new music and sometimes new Mii Fighter costumes and other goodies. my favorite reveal was Sephiroth. easily one of my top favorite FF villains and RPG characters.
Funfact: Sephiroth is the only character in all of Final Fantasy who has his name chanted during his boss music. the music is called One Winged Angel. for example, these are the first set of lyrics in his music:
Estuans interius
Ira vehementi
Estuans interius
Ira vehementi
Sephiroth
Sephiroth
there is a meme that basically plays on the idea of, when the music starts singing in latin, you know the boss is about to get super serious
Ah...He/She beat me to it lol
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Not to mention that he is not completely human....he was the perfect specimen to be infused with Jenova cells, ( Jenova is a 2,000 year old extraterrestrial, shape-shifting being who may be rumored to be older than the planet Gaia itself that came in invasion means to wipe out the Cetra who is in turn humanity's ancestors ) hence why any creature infused with these cells will most likely bear a wing appendage.
And the one reason why he always comes back is because of his undying hatred of Cloud and his indomitable will....which prevents the Lifestream from absorbing him
---------------------------------------------------------------------
But like the previous comment...no more spoiling lol, unless I want to get the duct tape.....so I encourage you two lovebirds to check out the FFVII lore regarding Sephiroth, Jenova, Lifestream and Meteor.
This is Ero Solaria.....stay safe and take care
Sephiroth is crazy impressive. 🤩 thanks for giving us some more fun facts about him 😀
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames of course! You guys should do a reaction to two animated music videos by a group called Big Bad Bosses.
One is called Angel a song involving sephiroth himself
The other, imagine if 4 of gaming's most iconic villains made a boyband. That's where I'm the Boss, comes in lol
They are very well animated and sung by some fairly well known TH-camrs like The Completionist
Well… there was one other person who wielded it with some pretty decent results.
It is actually refreshing seeing a quiet reaction video. I remember when these came out everyone was screaming at each little clue on whos the next character is.
Just some fun facts to hammer in how massive this game is:
89 playable characters
450 iconic games featured
1100+ songs included
2200+ guest characters
This truly deserves the title fans gave it "videogames: The game"
Indeed.
these reveals were some of the best days of my life. Min Min’s reveal still gives me goosebumps to this day.
i love her sm
😎🤟☺️
you guys should've watched the "Everyone Is Here" trailer to have a dimension of the magnitude of this game. it's not just a party fighter, it's a celebration of video games as a whole.
But still... no Waluigi.
It’s a nice cherry on top of the impressing Smash Bros sundae 🤩
The number 2 was actually Banjo. Bayonetta was just the most realizable character who was voted for.
@@DZlegend No, it wasn't. Bayonetta was the #2 most requested worldwide. The number 1 is Europe and top 5 in the US (dunno about Japan).
@@thenonexistinghero nope, you’re wrong. Sakurai stated after Sora’s reveal that it was Sora then Banjo
Sora’s reveal itself almost feels like “this is it” for Smash. Like this is the end.
Indeed, I say to myself that it is necessary for all, personally the arrival of Sora did not please me more than that because I never played Kindome Heart on the other hand there were other announcements where I farted my skull, that of Sephiroth is the best example, I did not believe that my favorite villain is one day in smash
And unfortunately despite ALL OF THIS, there are still people complaining and will never be happy about anything.
Almost 4 years later and I'm still in shock from Simon's announcement. I'm a die-hard fan of both Castlevania and Smash and never did I think the two franchise would cross-over. Honestly, I was hoping for Alucard but a Belmont is just a great as The Alucard
☺️😊 always like hearing which reveal hit the hardest for people 🙂
To be fair, Simon was always gonna be the first in line when it comes to repping Castlevania.
@@anthonydeadman fair enough, I'd rather have Alucard kick my ass over having no Alucard at all
(Also, I think so to!)
fun fact since it was mentioned in the Sephiroth reveal about how long his hair ism it canonically takes one bottle of shampoo to wash his hair. every. time.
😂 love that’s part of the cannon
What makes KOF being in Smash so cool is the fact that the latter is actually inspired from it. From the mechanics to some modes to even the whole All Stars concept, not to mention the director is also a huge fanboy of the series. So seeing KOF, the reason why smash even exist finally join after all these years is such a treat.
It all comes full circle ☺️
The moment I saw keyblade and Mickey emblems, it literally had me in tears.
Sora and Kingdom Hearts series is the video game that got me to love the word, Crossover.
I cries in tears of joy as I see one of my childhood most favorite character return to life, but in Smash, wish do come true after all.
Say, I saw you guys reacted to both Smite and League of legends trailer, why not DOTA 2 as well? It's also one of the top MOBA game out there. There are fews officials cinematic trailers of them though.
The Dark Souls bait was cruel though
When I saw that bonfire, I thought it was Dark Souls time and I don't even like those games and then Sora popped out and I drank a bunch of tears because an FE fan, I had all the characters I wanted once Byleth was in.
🥲
Fun fact: the creator of Jojo's Bizarre Adventures and the creator of the Persona series are influenced by one another! JJBA part 4 directly influenced the creation of Persona 4, and the JJBA anime was stylistically influenced by the Persona series. While it's hard to say whether the Stands/Personas are a direct copy of one over the other, it's pretty obvious there's a reference happening. Both of them are super fun and I really recommend the Persona series if you ever want to get into another game franchise :D
Persona is on our list to check out at some point. And that’s cool that the two sort of play off one another. A mutual respect of each other 😊
The most brilliant thing about Smash (Especially in recent years) is that it so easily introduces people to new game series.
Marth was introduced in Melee, the GameCube one. But yes, I agree.
@@xXBlazingDragonXx1 thank you for the clarification I'm a newbie to Smash but I find the history of the series fascinating.
@@RomnilWater For reference's sake, Marth and Roy were introduced in Melee, and Path of Radiance!Ike in Brawl. ( Radiant Dawn!Ike was the model used in 4, and Ultimate uses both models.)
Marth WAS intended for the first game, to provide a contrast to Link, but time constraints forced him onto the cutting board.
So much to explore still 😀
Nobody would have known about Xenoblade we're it not for Shulks inclusion
(Before anyone tries to say it, "Luminary" and "Erdrick" are titles, not names.)
- *Banjo & Kazooie:* "Raring To Go" is of course their connection to the Donkey Kong Country characters (Rareware/Rare).
(With Byleth carrying a lance, axe, and bow, the Fire Emblem roster in Smash now officially represent the most recurring weapons in their series.)
- *Min Min:* This was the first time Sakurai called in Ryo Horikawa, the voice of Captain Falcon, to record lines - and all for slurping ramen.
This look got so popular that Xenoblade 2 got a free update with a special Aux Core that grants Mythra this look.)
- *Kazuya:* Yeah, tossing opponents over a cliff is kind of a tradition he picked up from his father Heihachi (when he tossed the young Kazuya over a cliff).
☺️🤩
Thanks for giving us the fun facts 😀
😎🤟🥳
@@anthonydeadman Shame on me? For what? For speaking the truth? It is just the same track only with more drums added in. And i don't have problems with my hearing. But again, i never said that it is a bad thing that they used the same track. It is a good thing. Because, that version of the track that they re used is one of the best out there. So yeah, shame on me? Nah, shame on YOU for twisting the meaning of what i said in to your own direction, to prove youself as the smartest guy in the room, trying to make everyone else look like a fool. Now excuse me, but i have a war in my country to worry about.
I can explain this one:
The twin characters Pyra/Mythra is from Xenoblade Chronicles 2.
Thanks for helping us out with understanding those two franchises a little better 😀
Damn, even after so many months Sora's trailer is still incredibly strong. What a perfect way to cap it off.
Yup 🥲
Sora’s reveal was just euphoria. I’m so glad y’all could delve into some of these characters, Smash is awesome :)
😎🤟🥳
I can still remember when they announced Joker as the first DLC character during the 2018 Game Awards. That is the only game trailer other than the Metroid Prime 4 announcement that has brought me to tears. I vividly remember jumping out of my chair and screaming the second I saw the Smash logo on the envelope.
Persona 5 is one of my favorite games, but Smash is probably the most legendary franchise to exist. Seeing the two together was magical for me.
🥲☺️😎🤟 Nice! Wish we were more involved in Nintendo over the years so we could’ve had similar experiences with this game 🙂
That’s how I felt with Banjo-Kazooie
48:05 Oh my god! Super impressed that Ken made that connection!
Joker is a character from the Persona games, which is part of a series called "Shin Megami Tensei", which take light inspiration by the Jojo's Bizarre Adventures manga between their use of Tarot cards to form the identity of those "astral projections" you saw, and the concept of them in the first place.
See. We do learn and pay attention 😀 only way to make that connection is the education from the community 🤗
I remembered when joker got announced for smash everyone was off the wall excited for him lol
😎🤟
so. im sure SOMEONE said it down the line. but JUST in case >.<
the first trailer. the Smash reveal trailer...it was kind of a "rug pull"
those 2 chars are inkling. from Nintendo's ever cute "splatoon" shooter game. so at first glance it was assumed either a splatoon update reveal or the reveal of splatoon 3 (cant remember if smash was before or after the "final update")
but when she turned around and saw the flaming smash logo it was,in reality, a "smash is coming out and the Inklings are the first official "new characters"" reveal...which kinda makes the, albeit simple, first teaser REALLY more of a surprise for us...cuz of the initial assumptions of a different game entirely.
(same with issebelle. was SURE that was gonna be animal cross reveal which we had rumors off too, lol)
We had heard that. Very clever marketing on their part for a fun reveal 😀
Sora being the final character being added into smash was really unexpected and made alot of people scream with joy lmao
😎🤟🥳🤩
Ill never forget how the minecraft announcement caused so much internet traffic that parts of the internet stopped working
Fun fact about Sephiroth: he has to use an entire bottle of shampoo and an entire bottle of conditioner whenever he bathes.
😂 love that that is cannon
I love how Cloud didn't even need to see Sephiroth to know it was him. The fact that a God of Light was cut in half was all he needed to figure out that his BFF was following him
Also it's canon that every time Sephiroth bathes, he has to use an entire bottle of shampoo and conditioner for his hair
🤣😂 absolutely love that fun fact about Sephiroth
There will probably never ever be another fighting game like smash ultimate. The likelihood of being able to get together all of the characters that this game did in order to have them fight one another again is so small that you might as well not even think about it. Watching all these characters get revealed and added to the already expansive smash cast was probably the most hype gaming event in ages, and I am so glad that I was around to witness it.
☺️😎🤟
May the best person win the invite 😛
These trailers got so many people freaking out, because so many of these characters had been highly requested for years. Ridley, Banjo-Kazooie, and Sora in particular had people (myself included admittedly) crying tears of joy because they had been requested for so long.
Also, Sephiroth is just my personal favorite character in all of fiction, so you can only imagine how hard I was freaking out when he was revealed. If you want to get more into his story, I would recommend checking out Final Fantasy VII, both the original and the remake.
steve broke twitter
Leaving out K. Rool, huh
Definitely want more Sephiroth so we will have to check out final fantasy 7 at some point 😀
I still tear up every time I see banjo and kazooie
The thing I enjoy most about the Smash reveals is that nobody knows it's coming, since they're all announced through Nintendo Direct livestreams
Nice. 😎🤟
Unless they're leaked
Ah, the good ol days when Piranha Plant was announced for Smash and the internet completely lost it's shit

Fun Fact: Joker actually had a reveal trailer before the one in the video, which was shown at the Game Awards.
The blank stares during Steve's announcement were so fitting.
I remember playing Smash Bros Melee back in the day and has evolved into Ultimate, absolutely amazing. Sora in smash was an awesome addition
😎🤟
The funniest thing about all of these reveals, Steve's reveal literally broke twitter for a good while, and he was the only one to do so.
That’s pretty insane. Testament to the power of both games 😀
People in NA were dumb about it, but Hero's reveal was a HUGE deal in japan. It's basically every main character from Dragon Warrior, which is just as big if not bigger in Japan then Final Fantasy is here. It was a long time coming :P
i still find it interesting how obscure dragon quest is overseas compared to japan. my reaction to the reveal was just "who?"
@@Underworlder5 The composer of Dragon Quest, who recently passed, was very anti-american and would sabotage the game's release in America just for spite
My favourite part about all of these is that they don't even try to make it seem innocent or anything, they straight up murdered Luigi

my favorite is kazuya's, seeing how he throws characters from other games off the cliff is very funny and maintains the essence of tekken
We are posting Tekken reactions next week and wish we would’ve seen it first because once we learned more we got the volcano bit and we already enjoyed it without the context. Having the context just makes it that much more perfect 😂
Yeah, it's like the Mishima family's favorite pastime is throwing each other off cliffs or into volcanoes.
Such family fun.

the form that Sephiroth took at the end of his trailer was his god form, in Final Fantasy 7 he absorbs a ton of energy from the Lifestream to come back from death as well as become even more powerful than he was in life, as Cloud defeated him in the past.
God form indeed 😯🤩
As a xenoblade fan i will always remember pyra and mythra's announcement , they really choosed the best soundtracks for it and the cgi parts are amazing , i love the fact that they made an entire cutscene almost canon to Xenoblade 2 with Rex who's looking after her and travelling all over the world to find her
☺️😎🤟
1:15 all hell broke loose on the internet at that moment. What a day to be in the smash community haha.
3:06 it's funny you mention Alien, because Metroid (The game Ridley and Samus are from) was inspired by those films with Ridley's design being based upon a Xenomorph
Keep forgetting how old the first alien movie is. Because it seems like Metroid has been around for forever as well
One of my favorite parts of the Tekken reveal is that the day before the trailer dropped someone tweeted out "I'm gonna be honest I don't think F-Zero fans are getting anything out of this direct, Nintendo is more likely to execute Captain Falcon on screen than to make another game" AND THEN IT HAPPENED, KAZUYA JUST EXECUTES HIM ON SCREEN
I remember that tweet but it wasn't about the likelihood of another F-Zero game. It was about how likely Nintendo was to "win E3", saying that they could execute Captain Falcon live on stage and still win.
I won't lie.
I actually cried when Sora was announced.

Also funny Sora was added to Smash because people have being wanting him for at least 10+ years to be in the games, lots of people were betting on Sora, Goku or Dante to be potential characters.
@@phillipjarvis5754 the ballot in general was for ultimate not 4
Really surprised Dante isn’t in this 🤔
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames Mii Fighter costume.
@@KorporalKReephdmkiytrecv69 it was for 4, not Ultimate. But because they were already developing Ultimate, Nintendo kept the negotiations going with Disney for Sora and had to keep it under wraps.

"too cute to smash"
Hoo boy do I have bad news for you...
She is the devil isn’t she? 😂😈🤗
22:23 "Your brother's gonna come in too?"
Well, Andy is in the background of the KOF stage, along with Joe who failed to catch the letter in the reveal trailer.
😎👍😀
But not Mai
I legit cried and screamed to the banjo reveal. Some reveal reaction compilations is the best reaction videos I've seen on youtube.
The amazing thing is that Japan originally wasnt going to release smash bros to the west in 1999. Now ultimate is the best selling fighting game just beating sf II. Incredible move
Damn didn’t realize that 😯
for me the absolute best reveal hands down was joker's...
having it happen live at the game awards was so cool
As someone who has been playing Smash since Melee on the GameCube, the series changed my life. Introducing me to so many characters, franchises, and genres. I would not be the person or gamer I am now.
I'd say that my favorite reveal was Sephiroth, because after I saw that trailer, I knew I had to play Final Fantasy VII Remake. Each new character that came into Smash, practically made me want to play their game. Joker with Persona 5, Hero with Dragon Quest XI, etc. Games and series I probably would not have played otherwise.
It does do a good job of getting you interested in games you might not have otherwise checked out 🙂
What I really love about the smash reveals is all the little details that you can easily miss unless you're very familiar with either the characters in question or Smash itself.
Few off the top of my head:
Well said ☺️
Idk why and/or how but when he said sonic at the beginning I just pictured him as a Sonic voice actor
One thing I love about Smash trailers is that they always try to make things secret even with the subtle hints. Even if some results are mixed there is always some level of hype while other games just shadowdrop their trailers or reveals on social media, losing the surprise. (Multiversus)
I think KOFXV showed a silhouette of the character a day before the reveal but has the name of the character in the title.
Here’s a couple other things:
-The flaming circle with the asymmetrical bisectors seen in the announcement and Sora’s reveal is the symbol of the series.
-The smash invitation is based on the one from KOF.
That’s a cool fact about the kof and smash invitation 😀
42:14 The Smash logo represents the crossing of characters and the 4 sections represent the usual 4-player aspect of the games.
Ah okay. Thanks for helping point that out 😀
Sephiroth's reveal trailer is still my favorite SMash reveal with just how hype the trailer goes and even uses his own theme "One-Winged Angel" my favorite theme from FF7 and that was just one of the many variations of the theme
It was a pretty impressive reveal 🤩
I came to see your reaction to the "death" of Mario😂
*That was priceless!*
The first trailer was the reveal trailer of the gtame, which made it even better
😯😀
Steve and Sepiroth's reveals we're my favorite. I liked Steve because he was in NY childhood a lot and I wanted to see him in smash. I remember being in a stream chat and everyone was joking about Steve being in smash. When it happened seconds later I got so excited but I was in online class at the time so I had to hold it.
I was excited for Sepiroth because I wanted to show my older brother. I knew he was gonna get hyped at seeing Sepiroth lol
😎🤟
omg idk how i missed this video! I love this game and i’ve been trying to get it, hopefully i’ll get it soon lmao. im glad you guys decided to make this video!
Highly recommend playing Final Fantasy VII Remake, it's a blend of real-time hack & slash with tactical response and the story and music for that game is just so well done
Hmm. Sounds like a game that could be up our alley 🙂
It’s really easy to pick up on and is just a solid beautiful game
It takes me back watching these trailers again. I remember watching them back when they first released. It was a special time in gaming.
☺️😊
When I Saw this in my Notifications I needed to watch this quickly and Nice video
😁🥳🤗☺️😀
Not only Brazilians but Latinamerica as well, hell even Spain as KoF was a huge deal with the arcades in said regions
Ridley is the most popular villain in Metroid. That's why you see him saving Samus for last seeing her scared and going Zero Suit mode at the end to fight him. He was highly requested to be a playable character in Smash Bros since Gamecube.
😎👍😀
Having just finished Dragon Quest XI a few weeks ago I'm happy to see it represented in Smash. I absolutely loved the game!!
As far as Smash goes, I haven't played a Smash game since Brawl but I played it a crap ton back then.
Just played the first smash on 64. Was never huge into Nintendo outside of that system 🤗 looks like missed out as this game seems fun 🥳
Joker is the Protagonist of Persona 5
Persona is basically Gaurdians
Joker has an ability called the Wild Card (the power to have a "deck" of personas to have in use) they choose Arsene specifically cause that's Jokers "awakened" persona
3:34 The Castlevania games and show are pretty good. I highly recommend reacting to it.
We heard the Netflix show is quite good 🙂
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames
Actually fantastic. Watched it 3 times so far, I’m positive you’ll love it. It was shockingly well-made.
Sephiroth is one of my favorites, I am a K. Roll main and for Banjo and Kazooie, when I saw them I said "welcome home."
☺️
It would be fun to see you guys also react to the previous games character reveal
We do plan to check those out at some point as well 🙂
It just instantly put a smile on my face how you two reacted so happy and instantly knew what was going on, when Sora's Keyblade was revealed from the flames.
Love you two, seriously, lmao.
It was on of the trailers where we actually knew the character and had fallen in love with the franchise as well ☺️😊
