I am from Tegucigalpa! This approach is scary, everytime we would land I never really felt safe, I really always prepared a go around or runway excursion. Now that I have logged almost 300 hours in the sim I have a new found respect for the pilots. Much love from Honduras! And actually, pilots would aim for the threshold, not the regular landing spot
Hi! Actually Jets are Still landing in Toncontin (National and International Flights), There is a 737-200 ADV, a CRJ-200 and Many Private Jets like Gulfstreams, Falcons, Globals and Learjet that Frecuently Land Here, the Regulation says "No Aircraft above 19 seats is allow to land in Toncontin" But we don't apply this and we have still Land Big Jets here :)
Whoever stated that rule was a dumb, what measurement or criteria used for saying that only 19 seater can operate there lol, anyway estos gobierno compiten por ser mas burros
My family is from here and I flew in here at least 8 times in my lifetime. Because of the terrain nearby the airport, it sets the runway down on somewhat of a "bowl" shape, if you will. Add consistantly windy conditions going from south to north, the RNAV02 approach was routine in order to land into the headwinds. The approach however does include a pretty sharp left turn to a short final, which is what you are flying in this video. When the wind did shift, pilots approached from the other side of the runway, making for a more traditional "straight-in" approach. It was always fun to land here - I always picked seats on the left side for my family and I. Its a great airport to really counter the idea that most people have of airplanes flying themselves with auto-pilot and auto-lands. Its awesome you made a video on this aiport, Swiss! I have been a big fan of your content since your early days of "subtitle and music" type videos. It's cool to watch your channel grow and change. As always, great video bro.
i once landed an A320 there just before October, the approach was shocking so i hand flew it in from 10 000ft, i can definitely see why Jets aren't allowed here, from my personal experience.
Finally. Another Toncontin International Airport video. Thank you Swiss. At the time, everyone was scared about that airport because of the approach, close proximity to terrain and how short it was the runway is. For most of you don't know, Toncontin is actually the 2nd most extreme airport just after Lukla by History Channel and that's because i use to watch Most Extreme Airports documentary long ago. The approach to Tegucigalpa is considered to be one of the most difficult in the world to all aircraft, especially in inclement weather conditions.
While watching this video, I broke my headphones… I can only hear through the left ear headphone and the right ear headphone is rattling… so rip to my headphones! And great video!
Maybe if the AN225 didnt have 50% fuel load...also can never tell if Swiss uses a joystick or keyboard and mouse to fly...the control inputs give me too much anxiety.
what do you have msfs installed on? (like steam or xbox app or something else bc my msfs on xbox app gets stuck on syncing data on the splash screen and the dotted circle just goes around forever)
You should go to (in flight sim) Archerfield, Brisbane Australia. It’s my local airport and it’s beautiful. It’s south of YBBN, it’s ICAO is YBAF, and it’s like your local airport. I recommend checking it out.
Swiss001: *Hears about an airport that has banned jets* Also Swiss001: "I Wonder what happens if we land the AN225 there..." Me: *watch the entire video and realize he didn't do it*
Swiss should try Eglin AFB, it’s near 2 cities, o e of them is small, the other one has a few skyscrapers, it’s used for military and comercial. It pretty much has every fighter jet in the USAF inventory, although the F-22s are leaving. You should try it. Also private jets are forced to land at the nearby Destin airport
Actually, they didn’t ban jets, they banned international airline flights. Jets on national flights such as the Aviatsa 737-200 still fly to toncontin almost daily.
For me personally making that airport exclusive to propeller aircraft was a smart decision. Or maybe that. Airport and the city could have just worked around that problem instead of banning jet aircraft.

i once landed an A320 there just before October, the approach was shocking so i hand flew it in from 10 000ft, i can definitely see why Jets aren't allowed here, from my personal experience.
You're a lucky man. Take that experience with you for the rest of your life. Some of us never had the opportunity to try it. Just like Hong Kong.
