    I know I am a bit strange, friends say I am special (or annoying) the most interesting bit (besides ALL of it) was the little bits swimming round in the IPA when you found the fault, but then carried on looking for something else as the un populated pad you saw distracted you. Anyway, well done for another interesting interlude 🙂

    Well, that was a surprise. Looking closely at about 22:00 something seemed to come off of the board. Maybe that was the remains of the resistor. Thanks, Mick. That was quite a suspenseful bit of detective work. I enjoyed it very much. Have a good Sunday.

    • @BuyitFixit
      @BuyitFixit  หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      Thanks👍 yes I think that must have been a piece of the original resistor. I thought it looked a bit odd, but wasn't sure if there had been a resistor there or not (with it being a black board and black resistors).

      @@BuyitFixitI work QC in manufacturing and this is why we have a strict "any dropped part is scrap" policy. 90% chance IMO that the resistor had poor connection but was there at one point. Someone dropped that board, and instead of scrapping it they continued the assembly because "we drop things all the time and it's fine" well this is why it sometimes isn't fine to do that.

      Thanks Paul 👍Yes busted my knuckle a bit, I've been also rebuilding the hydraulic transmission on our RTV900 utility vehicle. It was in 100 bits all over the shed floor with the rear axle off. I've nearly got it all back together now.. I'll probably do a video on the rebuild as I had a few people asking about could I do some more mechanical repairs, and I don't think you can get more mechanical than that! 😂😂😂 I've also been replacing the rear tipping bed as it was all rotten, so got some steel plate and removed the old one, welded a new one in place. Replaced a drive shaft, wheel bearings, and sorted out the brakes too 👍 Hence having a pretty busy week, then trying to fix something for a video, and 4 other items I started recording all needed parts ordered!

      This is a common mistake with devices that use a USB-C connection for charging. Either device could send power to the other, so you need a way to indicate that the device wants to receive 5V power.
      This is done by trying reach of the two CC pins to ground using a 5.1K ohm resistor. No resistor means no power gets sent.
      I have several devices (including an Anbernic RG350M) that I want to open up and see if I can retrofit these resistors, so that I can charge them with any USB-C charger.

    . . .Did the maker purposely fit unmarked resistors to that unit precisely to discourage anyone from repairing a fault like this?
    . . .I've just drawn out part of an ABB board with a lot of "0603" size resistors on it and all the resistors on the board I had had clearly visible, altho' tiny, numbers on them indicating their value!

    • @BuyitFixit
      @BuyitFixit  หลายเดือนก่อน

      I've came across a few boards like this now, where all of the resistors are just black little squares. I think it's pretty standard on phones. I thought it was because the resistors are too small to have values on them.

    Really common with these that people plug in high power fast chargers and kill them dead. I own three Anbernic devices and I'm a member of the owners forum over on facebook, it's a topic that's comes up an awful lot.

      Having issues commenting on videos Mick. I wondered if that resistor was missing or had exploded, the pads did look somewhat strange to me as well. Yeah, no capacitor this time, weird. Great fix and I'll have to watch this one again. I may have missed some of the diagnosis. Thanks for the video, well done.

    • @BuyitFixit
      @BuyitFixit  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Cheers mate, yes I noticed that the solder on the pads looked slightly discoloured so I think a high power charger got plugged into it and heated up the resistor and it might have fallen off in the process. That's my theory anyway.

The two little Valais girls last year under the tree were around two weeks premature. Unfortunately we lost one of them a few weeks ago "litte legs" we called her. She was tiny still 😥 very cute and followed you around like a puppy. My wife found her dead in the field.. We were both pretty much heartbroken.
      We've bred them later this time, so they'll be due around March / April time (next year).

    Being a watchmaker I am used to small things but one of my ecigs a Voopoo Drag X Plus Pro, tested my resolve somewhat with very tiny screws and the thinnest of wires, hampered by an OLED screen in the way of many things in the end I snipped the loose wire and soldered it in place then soldered a bridge piece with heatshrinks then I had to carefully delete the vacuum differential sender from the top deck to the main board and by this time I took no prisoners and simple flush cuttered the wiring then a dab of liquid insulation tape over the motherboard end and then hour battle to get it all back into place and job was thankfully done... Device was brand new but Voopoo were saying send it to us and we will send you a new one so six weeks on the slow boat to China then six weeks back on the slow boat to China so it was a make it or break it decision lol Lucky too this issue is well documented so one of my mates pointed out that the replacement would very likely in its first week start to brew itself up because the vacuum sender jams itself into the "on" position and the thing goes haywire in your pocket... not good.
