    Shakedown Hawaii is about being a cynical, awful person who doesn't respect the law and actively hurts people to make money. Basically, it's about a CEO.
    The latest from the Retro City Rampage studio, this Grand Theft Auto style take on capitalistic business models is worth a scope.

      @FuzzLord that too, but the basic 60 bucks package is a sad one most of the time and quality + content went down. Ofc the true base game is either 80 or 100+. lol

    • @GGamersUnited
      @GGamersUnited 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @FuzzLord yeah, I dunno how that would feel. As an european I would love to pay 60 dollars and not 60+ euros for the base game because it's not set in stone here like with the 59,99 in America. It's always like 65 euros sometimes or even 70. I know shiping and taxes, but considering how AAA get away with taxes in Holland, people around the world should not pay that much more like in your cases..for the same product! In general though it is much sadder how ppl became OK or even defend this BS going on in AAA games that got us here. They were pushing and taking an inch here and there while we did nothing. Battlefront 2 was a game changer in that regard, so finally more and more are pushing back. We also really need to stop buying lackluster games on launch day and indeed start voting with our wallets more.

      It could be because indies that don't have millions of dollars and cannot always eat the cost of launching on a platform that their product could get buried in because no one even knows it exists deciding to change their mind isn't the point of why he choose to chastise the Epic Store exclusivity. Also... did EGS pay them to make it exclusive or did they simply choose to change?
      And I am not trying to defend an inconsistency, but it does seem like there's a bigger reason why the Epic thing is an issue when it comes to far more prominent and money backed titles.

    • @greenhowie
      @greenhowie 5 ปีที่แล้ว +22

      @@Kilmoran It's more that they didn't let anyone know they were switching until the game was nearly out. Some could say that was deliberate to drum up hype for the game, as some people who would normally wait another 6 months might want to play it so much they'll buy it through Epic.
      I'm fine with indie devs launching however they want - so long as they let consumers know well in advance.

    • @ManoredRed
      @ManoredRed 5 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      @@Kilmoran What costs? Launching on Steam costs practically nothing upfront. You pretty much only pay their cut of the sales, which should only be a factor if you expect to sell millions of copies. If you don't, you would want to launch on as many platforms as you can get your hands on for maximum exposure.
      In any event, I can confirm this is a purchased Epic exclusive... so yeah, I'm gonna have to say that's ironic.

      @@Terf1988 I'm not sure what exactly you mean by 'massive government control', or why my favoured political system appears to matter in some small way to you, but I'll give it a try. I believe that capitalism as an economic system has been wonderful -- it managed to overthrow the power of monarchs and sovereigns and established a broader governing class (now including the merchants, etc.) The hyper-productivity of capitalism led to great innovation and economic growth. The issue is, capitalism has many internal contradictions (how does one achieve perpetual economic growth, how does one manage the tensions between classes opposed to one another ie landlord and tenant, how does one address the fact that capitalism invariably leads to wealth being concentrated in the hands of an exceedingly small group of individuals...something likely to be exacerbated by new technology)
      One rather convincing solution to me -- or well, the only solution I can find -- is the transition to a socialist economy. I'm sorry to break it to you, but socialism doesn't necessarily mean a big government regulating every tiny facet of our existing. Rather, the socialism I'm in support of is a democratic one, one empowering the workers in their workplaces, and so on. One important distinction between this socialist economy and the current capitalist economy is that we will move away from *exchange values* (ie producing products for the sole purpose of selling them) to *use values* (ie producing products because they contain within them some sort of social good, for the greater society). I could go on, in a lot more depth, but to summarise my personal ideology: give power to the powerless, ensure those with power are accountable

    Bought it on Switch, and I love it. The bite-sized mission length makes it ideal for a portable game, and the whole thing just feels like a lovely little blend between GTA Chinatown Wars and an old Amiga game in the vein of Sensible Software's Cannon Fodder (down to the sense of humour; the whole piss-take on gentrification feels very Sensi Soft). That said, 20 quid is a bit much if you're money-conscious.

    The gunplay requires two control schemes from what I've found.
    Some weapons lock onto a person or object and you can strafe around them while you're locked on. You press Y on the Switch controller to shoot and you'll lock. This includes machine guns, pistols, grenades, that kind of thing.
    But more "vague" weapons like shotguns and scattershots and such don't really lock on at all. With those you can use the right stick and play as if it's a twin stick shooter. Makes it much easier to aim around while moving.
    It's a bit fiddly, but with some practise you get used to it.

    If you wanna get crazy... The Retro City Rampage protagonist very loosely resembles Claude from GTA3 with the leather coat, black hair & jeans while fucking shit up in an urban city (then again, that game was going to be a demake of GTA3 on NES).
    Shakedown Hawaii's protagonist on the flipside also very loosely resembles an older version of Tommy from GTA Vice City (from the suit, slick hair, and Hawaiian t-shirts). Like VC: You build an empire by buying property, and the setting takes place in a more tropical city but with more jungles.
