FYI, Mark said that this was a boring episode because they were talking about socks and underwear. Not true! I was super invested. And was laughing the whole way through. I prefer the small talk over the "game" of the episode
I hope that you are safe and well Mark with the fires that are happening in LA. I don’t know where the fire is and I’m hoping that your home is not close to it. I hope you and Amy and the dogs are safe and well sending my thoughts and prayers to you in case you are affected to the wild barhopping in Los Angeles right now, and including everyone else that are been affected with this fire. ❤
Omg its such a joy to get Distract again on YT. Please keep loading it as I am toasted by id thefts w Spotify the 1st account heisted to point where its impossible to get in there for me.
definitely a devestating set of layoffs, but they didnt affect the GTA Franchise or Rockstar Games at all, just corporate positions and i believe most or all of Private Division, their indie game label.
@ yea like when Hideo Kojima defected from Konami who made Kojima Productions a AAA company but is now an Indie company because Konami likes to shut out their most important peeps
Also I have to point out the biggest gut punch is Rocksteady who gave us the greatest Batman franchise ever and the main ones literally defected as soon as they saw what the game was REAAALLLLYYY gonna be about
I still remember Wades "Broken Down Jurassic Park Theme" from the Raft playthrough and this made me remember that. Thank you Wade. That was happy memory and I'm glad that idea is continuing.
i love distractible best podcast bob wade and mark are fantastic edit: mark is right too much trendy gaming money getting dumped into projects that maybe arent perfeectly finished and so the cycle repeats.
Probably not still hunting socks, but hank green has a charity store where all proceeds are donated and they make socks he designed in chemotherapy. Might be fun to try at least.
plus a lot of recent video games find it hard to like tell a story in a cinematic, like for example some shooting games will give you a very short backstory and then bam your right in the shooting. like some of the modern cods have that quality and it just kils the atmosphere of how gamers perceive a game, some gaming studios use cinematics so well that its almost a requirement for games that give off a lot of suspense or emotion, just like how music can be used in hinting the player when there in danger or in the midst of a calm spell (no dangerous activity), but now a days cinematics atleast to me seem to have a more shorter back story to give the player a reasoning to why it is there fighting, why it is there building stuff, why it is that they have to survive. i think the medias that enshroud the gaming industry now have either become a big part of it or can really damper the mood for another new game, you could even argue that games that show cinematic trailers but never show gameplay is in an effect a negative response for the gamer as we want to see gameplay, none of us could care less about what game engine its running on or what specs its running, as long as the games simple, captures its audience in a packful suspense all the while showing the overall meat and potatos at the end, like the casisto protacol that had a good trailer cinematics or any game that has that view of showing the player the world there going to be playing in before jumping straight into the gameplay, i think that with some up beat music helps draw people in, but a brillant use of a cinematic trailer would be the gears of war 2 trailers where they won't show you your foes but use silhouttes of them and sad music to make the game really seem like war is hell type of vibes, you just don't see that use of cinematics anymore.
26:00 To Bob's point: yes, people like it, but that's a temporary situation that will crumble very quickly in a short span of time. Live service games are like building houses on sand: weak foundations will always break. Remember how hype overwatch was? Now, both 1 & 2 are dead, along with the company. Modern entertainment (or at least these less passion driven ventures) lives in dog-years and thus grows older and fades into obscurity far faster. Love you guys.
Mark is 100% right about the problem with video games becoming more like movies and the people making them wanting movies rather than games. But there is also another problem going on with many games out there in which gamers are getting ripped off or are forced to wait until there's a day 1 patch, dlc, or free updates to make the experience actually playable. In stark contrast to games back in the day where, you only had 1 version, unless it is something that got updated in another region meaning they couldn't afford mistakes outside of fixing some of them in re-releases. But ultimately it feels way less fulfilling as it was back in the day and I don't think I'm alone with this.
I mean as many people have said.. this is mostly and issue with triple A games theres still plenty of innovative and fun indie games coming out (with s o m e triple A's aswell). the fulfilment part I think is either just burn out or growing up though i'ma be honest.
Hey, I want to add a little information here. Bob mentioned erythritol, which Mark commented on asking, "Is that the one dogs can't have?" To answer, dogs actually can have erythritol. However, they can't have xylitol, a similar sugar alcohol. Xylitol is usually used as a sugar-free sweetener for gum, which is actually beneficial for a reason I'll get to later. Both make your platelets more sensitive to blood clotting signals, which could result in a higher risk of a stroke and heart attack. I'd also like to point out that this doesn't mean you shouldn't use products such as these. Xylitol is very healthy for your oral health, and it's not actually a bad idea to choose mouthwash or toothpaste with it. Xylitol reduces acid-producing bacteria by up to 90%, which helps against enamel erosion, plaque, and cavities. Not only are xylitol and erythritol found in fruits and vegetables, but our own bodies also produce them. So, it's still okay to chew gum, eat a mint, or use mouthwash/toothpaste with these in them, so long as you don't consume too much. But a beverage with these sweeteners would probably lead to overconsumption of these sugar replacements.
I have wide feet so finding socks for my work boots suck they would always rip or was just damp or rub. Then I found the brand Loose Fit Stays Up They are some of the best socks I have ever used but they are not cheap but feet are Important. Also got 2 pairs of Darn Tough they are good as well.
😂 I'm with wade on this one I can't wear briefs or regular underwear cause they're too tight too constraining so I wear boxers and they're great 😂 4:21.
Problem with video games is that most of the new AAA developers either only heard about videogames or only understand it on the level of players. They want it to be good, but don't know what makes it fun for them, so they just trying to make same game, but from their head with more movie-like stuff.
I stopped playing CoD games after the second game. Back when it was WW2 and didnt focus on multi-player like it does now. The first two games were amazing and really fun. Then they switched gears and slowly changed all the wrong things
i refuse to change from low show socks because the more sock that is on my foot and up my ankle, the more i hate living in my skin. tho i have had to get some higher socks for some shoes just because of chaffing/i don't want them falling down cuz that also makes me hate living in my skin XD
Man boxer briefs 100%, have to have that leg coverage. Tried them for the first time recently and could never go back. But it HAS to be the athletic/skin tight/stretchy material, anything else is just bunchy and irritating. The leg inseam needs to be 6"+ as well, if you're wearing the 3" ones that's contributing to the bunching up.
i have tired them all just normal Hanes boxer briefs work great for me I tired boxers in high school it was too loose for me i like my stuff staying still and you dont feel your sac sticking to your leg as much if i am being honest esp if you get sweaty
plus in this day in age the more the gaming industry evolves the more it costs to produce games because they are then forced into a bottleneck where they have to keep up with the updates from computer hardware and software in order to be viable to run on latest consoles or the latest graphics card, you could even argue that vidoes games are becoming so complex now that they are also losing there charm of being simple, easy to play and general all round fun, in these times its always about finding the best meta or strategy to even get a slither of fun from games now, only a few like space marine 2 and helldivers 2 seem to be the only games (atleast for me) that are trying to retian the fun side of gaming, you look at gears of war now and you'd think where the hell did those bitter parts of gears go? why is it so happy go lucky now?
Phasmophobia hit 20mil sales recently and usually has 60k players. Also its early access with a plan for full release and roadmap. God. I love phasmo so much. Learning it an all that.
They dont love it there is no passion its become a corporate shell of its former years quantity over quality profits over anything else its sad that i can find a cheep 30 dollar game thats far better than any 60 dollar game anymore.
How do 3 youtubers/streamers know so little about games. All they seem to know is online or live service, how about picking up one of the many single player games.

The Core Prob: AAA devs getting laid off, the most devastating one IMO was probably Take Two, who are responsible for the GTA franchise
definitely a devestating set of layoffs, but they didnt affect the GTA Franchise or Rockstar Games at all, just corporate positions and i believe most or all of Private Division, their indie game label.
