    Thanks so much for the great tutorial! I watched it one time and then went and cleaned my brand new Ruger ec9s. This one is the easiest one I have ever cleaned! Trying to break in the slide a little bit before I take it to the range for the first time. Be careful folks because whenever you slide it forward it may slip out of your fingers.

    As an FYI! I save used toothbrushes and run them through the dishwasher. Great on all firearms. I especially like children's toothbrushes as they are softer. Also, a spray cleaner like CLP or Hotshot do great in the slide rails.

    Nice clear instructions. I usually don't pull out the Hoppes jar for every cleaning. CLP for the other parts every cleaning though. Ballistol would be fine as well.
    .
    Comparatively, Ruger semi-autos aren't the most reliable when dry. I put a few drops of synthetic motor oil on the barrel and the slide rails just to keep it lubed. I hope I never have to rely on a Ruger semi-auto to protect my life. However, if that day comes, I hope that I added those few extra drops of oil when last cleaning my Ruger.

    I cleaned and oils my firearm along with the tutorial, but I feel there's not enough oil. But I don't want to over oil. How can I tell if there's enough oil? Note: this is my first time cleaning my firearm. Please don't judge.

    • @TheGunLove
      @TheGunLove  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Hi Anissa! Thank you for watching. This is a great question. A good rule of thumb that I was taught was that you should put enough oil to where you can see it (the oil) and feel a slight sheen to it, but it shouldn’t respond to gravity (drip off). Sometimes I find that I under oil or over oil and when I catch myself doing it, I just correct it. You just never want so much oil that it’s dripping and too much oil will cause the firearm to collect more carbon and dirt.
      I’m so super proud of you that you are taking the initiative to caring for your own guns! We are all on a journey to be responsible firearms owners and I could never judge! I’m still learning too! Allow yourself some grace. As long as safety is our top priority, you won’t go wrong. I have a lot to learn too and I’m hopeful that me sharing what I learn will help others.

      Also a good practice to get in is all the times you saw her using her brush, you should dip your brush into your cleaner (I use CLP all in one) get solvent on brush and scrub well a dry brush isn't getting the solvent on all the places and isn't breaking a lot of that carbon free. Grab a old white cotton tee and wipe down. Then lube however you feel comfortable

    Caution. Never allow, with the pin removed, the slide to move backward. That will cause the slide to Lock up. So all ways only move the slide forward when the pin is out.
