Fantastic interview and insight! I learned a lot as a teacher and as a student. I'd love to see more interviews!

Jim, when I was in Berklee in the late 90s, I remember going into a class with you for the first time and I remember being petrified. I wasn't a jazz player and I was pretty sure that I wouldn't be able to fake it. I don't know what you saw in me (and honestly, I'm pretty sure that you probably don't remember me as there were tons of students that you'd taught), but while it wasn't easy it was one of the most useful musical training that I'd ever had. It's because of the way that you'd taught that I later ended up being able to play, and learn to love jazz bass. It wasn't who I was, and at the time it was tougher than I'd imagine. But, in the end with your help and advice (which wasn't always easy to take), I managed to gain some skill.
Moving ahead years later, I've done studio sessions, gigged, put out some records and achieved some success. I credit so much of that to what I learned from getting to study with you. Thank you and I hope that you have a great holiday.

I don't have much time to get down and read music. So I basically just watch and learn by ear. I found I've seen able to thread allot of Jim's lines into my playing....he brought me into the world of jazz refined my playing... thanks Jim.

I agree with Trevor, Great interview, I found it inspiring to keep practicing. I’ve been working out of your jazz bass walking book and have been hung up with adding the fifth cord . 👍

Keep repeating, one exercise at a time. Go back and solidify the previous examples.
