Amy, you are a very clever young lady and this old codger (85) will try his best to follow your very clear instructions. I have tried to follow others but I find that you are by far the better of them all. Thank you young lady for I feel that this old man can still learn from the young.

Amy...."You're the Bomb"!! I'm addicted to your video's and am just starting to paint. What a wonderful teacher you are. I enjoy learning from you. A young grandma (I am) who's retired now and searching for my glitch to fill my days. I've always loved crafts, painting, writing, calligraphy, etc. and I think I've found you for a reason. Keep doing the great work you do Amy and I will continue to watch your incredible talents!

Amy, just finished watching your Birch tree video and am ready (I hope) to get started! This is my 3rd attempt at leaving a comment, not knowing I needed a you tube channel of my own! So I hope this isn't duplicated somewhere. Anyway, I am a nurse by trade but so, so want to be an artist! Formal training is not an option for me, but with videos like yours I don't think all is lost. I've spent the last 3 months buying artist supplies and 'getting ready' I hope you keep making videos!

amy I love your work..... you helped my techniques to improve my paintings. I paint... don't know much about the technical theories and why I do things I do..... I don't worry much and love to paint,,,, however, I think it behooves me at this point to learn correct techniques or have an understanding..... even wondering why choose colors..... besides what looks good (although that works!!!) ...... at any rate.... I enjoy your works and thank you !!!!
funny, I have a background ready for birch trees... and cannot find sponge ..... I guess I will use brush or knife for leaves...... your trunks are gorgeous! thanks.

The sponge there is kinda expensive, but worth it. I use it as a proffesional painter too.
But you can try with some different brushes. And use it to try stopple the similar effect. I think if you try something a non-syntethic brush, and something that has a bit "volume" between the hairs.

ivory black and zinc white, cadmium yellow, then... it's a bit a matter of choice, but there are some colours you can't mix by adding others, a pale lemony yellow is one, and others you can, like yellow ochre. For me, madder, indian red, scarlet, alizarin crimson, prussian blue, cobalt or azure like cerulean blue, ultramarine - that's what i used to buy decades ago. But you wouldn't need all that. Madder's rare, if unmixable. Scarlet, lemon, ultramarine, azure, maybe crimson, is surely enough.
