Αt 5:08 . Is for 800 runners. After first 100 meters all athlets are at the same poind and from that poind they can grandually concur to the first line.
I am pretty sure you are wrong about the zone marking for relays. In lane one - no zone In lane two - tiny zone Also I have seen races for a mile start not from a “curve” but start like a 400 meter. Example LeoDashabach 3:59 mile in may 2020
Yeah, I agree. I think the other markings he points to are for the 800M: the runner has to stay in his lane through the end of the first curve only, then can break to the inside lane.
I have the exact same question. I believe it is correct. Basically starting at the "'3pm'/300m/1500m start" equivalent and finishing at the "'6pm/start/finish line" equivalent (if that makes any sense!).
neither the 300 or the 1500 start on that straight line. the 1500 is from a curved line and break into lane one from start. The 300 is ran in lanes so each lane has its own staggered start line.
Can someone tell me where to finish a 1 mile run if I start and stay in one of the outside lanes? I get how you do it in lane 1 but not for any of the other lanes. I feel like it is a stupid question but I honestly can't figure it out!
You would normally break straight from start, into the inside lane. But to answer your question, best way to work it out without measuring it exact, 4 laps in lane 8 would be 1800m (1 mile = 1,609m) So go to the 200m start line in lane 8 and go back 9.000m. that would be your start point for 1 mile in lane 8
your 200, 600, 1000, 5000 is incorrect.. The 200 is ran completely in lanes and has staggered lines for each lane to compensate for the bend. The others all break from start into lane one, unless there are more than 8 runners in which case they should go for a staggered curve with a break after 100m
I know this is a really ignorant question, but am I understanding correctly that each of the four "segments" of the track (two curves and two straights) is 100m?
I've been looking for an explanation like this! Good job, thank you!
You're welcome. Glad you liked it.

Good refresher for training sessions.

He is, as others have said, those are the start positions for an 800m race with a break after first bend.
Relay zones are marked with a coloured tick
So if I’m prepping for a 300m run, should I start on the staggered lines or start on the horizontal line where you have it marked 300m?

Exactly! :)
