I remember working on a court scene at two oclock in the morning, on a sound stage in Toronto. It was pitch black outside, but the funny part, with the set design and lighting, in the soundstage, it was morning. However, it did not feel like morning, and everyone was exhausted after 13 hours of shooting. Just listening to Aaron speaking about the long hours on set brings back many memories.
they did 7-8 takes and he went all out in every single one. Also, when shooting the reactions Jack had wrapped already so Rob Reiner let Kevin Pollack do Jacks part and crushed it so hard that Reiner forgot it was Pollack in the daily’s 😂
Never seen one written, including every episode, that didn’t bring a tear. This dude is a human treasure.

Sorkin would write "The American President" for Rob Reiner in 1995, that was basically the genesis for "The West Wing". Buy my favorite Sorkin series is not "The West Wing", btw, but the great "Spots Night", that unfortunately few people watched.
According to Wikipedia it was William Goldman who did an uncredited rewrite of Sorkin's play. Having read the play and seen the movie, the biggest change in the movie is that Caffey goes into the final scene against Jessup with no evidence and has "get the truth out of him somehow." In the play Markinson did not kill himself and was set to testify and Caffey also had the second tower log as evidence which in the movie they said Jessup was able to make disappear. Most of the dialogue and such was intact, that was likely seen as Sorkin's strongest contribution.
@@FanboyFilms In everything I've read by William Goldman about the making of movies he has nothing but praise for Rob Reiner's work in every aspect of production from instinct for script ideas to individual camera angles.
This dude is one of my favorite writers ever. A Few Good Men is a great film and a great cast. Tom Cruise, Jack Nicholson, Demi Moore, Keifer Sutherland. Amazing
“Who the fuck is William T Santiago”. “This kid broke the chain of Command and ratted in a member of his unit to say nothing of the fact that he is a US marine and it would appear he cannot run from here to there without collapsing from heat exhaustion. What the fuck is going on in bravo company?”
Cruise in Rainman AND Born on the Fourth of July. I think Cruise got snubbed at the Oscars for BOTFOJ because America didn't want to hear or wasn't ready to hear Ron Kovic's message. Cruise's performance in that film was uncanny. Grossly underrated.
I wish Rose had followed up with Sorkin to ask, "what _specifically_ was the improvement in the screenplay's showdown? You said the movie showdown was 'real' - how? You said the play's showdown was mere 'pyrotechnics' and 'faking it' -- how?" He really was not a very good interviewer.
I think literal pyrotechnics to compensate for the acting, like a thundering devil, red lights, fire, etc, “you can’t handle the truth..” As opposed to relying on strong acting.
Its a good movie but you have to suffer through 2 hours of Tom Cruise being a weasley know it all to get to the Jack Nicholson who’s dialogue makes the movie. imo

OMG I never saw Sorkin this young
And yet he still looks middle aged lol
Easily one of the best court room dramas ever filmed.

I had heard that Jack Nicholson had the same intensity as the movie even at the table reading.
you mean even in toilet or at the bar
Yes! That's true.
they did 7-8 takes and he went all out in every single one. Also, when shooting the reactions Jack had wrapped already so Rob Reiner let Kevin Pollack do Jacks part and crushed it so hard that Reiner forgot it was Pollack in the daily’s 😂
Intelligent, driven and humble
100%
I never knew he was so young when he wrote AFGM
He was in the movie as well .
@@manjumanl222 Yeah he has a brief speaking part in the bar the scene after Tom Cruise has his "I know the law!" spiel to Demi Moore
how young?
Very modest and professional take on transitioning from theatre to film.

I really like Sports Night too, but West Wing absolutely blows it away, imo
"Spot's Night" is my favorite "dog coming of age" comedy
I really liked Sports Night. Sad the rest of America wanted more watered down sitcoms and average dialogue.
he looked handsome as a young man
Like a Jewish Val Kilmer.
Rob Reiner was Aaron Sorkin's Max Perkins. A masterclass in rewrite. Fortuitous for everyone, but mostly for Aaron Sorkin.

thanks... I wonder why over the years he acquired such a stutter... he stutters a LOT now
because his brain works so fast.
He abused drugs for many years
Cocaine does that to you...
heard it from some talk shows, he made fun of it tho.
I thought it was an affectation
I LOVE THE WEST WING. &THE NEWSROOM!
"Rob I just love to act."
3:22 Charlie asks his question
I fully expected Sorkin to say:
“Screw me with my pants on”
This dude is one of my favorite writers ever. A Few Good Men is a great film and a great cast. Tom Cruise, Jack Nicholson, Demi Moore, Keifer Sutherland. Amazing
the questions were SO awful, yet the answers were SO great
Was it a hard sell to get him to do it? Well, we hired him for 10 days at $500,000 a day, so NO.
Worth every penny man
Did Charlie Rose get caught off guard in the beginning lol?

Abhigel will do the editing. I trust her judgement on these things. If more needs to be done, It should.
How did he know how to write the military language at 26?
His sister was in the Navy JAG Corps, working on the real case that Sorkin used as a basis for his play. Where he got the story and the lingo.

@@codacreator6162 yeah you're exaggerating out of your ass, he was good, nothing more than that
His sister was a JAG attorney
❤️❤️
I know that Charlie Rose has embarrassed himself and is no longer relevant. That being said this is an excellent interview. The questions are great.
I don't like how this interviewer is so close to his subject.
Just wish Charlie Rose would let the guy ANSWER. the question before interrupting .....man, that is so f'n irritating.....sheesh.....
THANK you. Geez-what an obnoxious interrupter!
I’ve always felt from listening to Aaron Sorkin is that he is his own worst critic.
is that a joke?
fun fact: you didn’t search this up
I did actually, need to research writers when they're young, no joke.
Lol I did
I need that rug.
Morrison Dali It Can Really Tie The Room Together
Fvckin A.
And this guy peed on it.
Donny, please.
You want that rug on your floor. You NEED that rug on your floor.

matt damon in disguise.
Sorkin sounds effete.
He used to have lips?!
Nicholson made $5 million for 10 days of work
Worth. Every. Penny.
Great interview!
Line readings sucks tough...
1. why does charlie rose look so flustered?
2. aaron sorkin was HOT
he looked better older
Better? Not a grad student you mean? lol
Swore up and down he'd never direct.
I miss Charlie Rose
Crazy … sounds different Even
I can tell drugs messed up his voice.
his voice messed up the drugs
Cope.
Thought he was a weed guy.
Not that weed shouldn't be illegal obviously
Nice rug
