Nothing more satishfying than a machine you build yourself 👍
I've made a 250466 SixtyClone too. Although I got absolutely no commore chips in it at all. Processor a 6502 with add on logic. 6526 is J-CIA. Neat PLA, cbmRetro 8701 replacement. Ram is the Saruman. I've thought of upgrading it with Arm2SID (currently got the mono version which can be repurposed to Reloaded MK2 - a machine I'm not that thrilled about.)
But I wonder about stereo. How easy it is to make a switch between the two most common used addresses. Because that's an annoyance of stereo SIDs - different addresses. I have to read the user manual to see how many point to switch. Can be I'll order the one with a dummy chip - that way it is easier to reuse should I want to move it to a board where there's two sockets (Reloaded MK2 etc.). A connector with wires can always be found at the local store. I also equipped mine with a PWM regulator for the 12v. Took a few tries to get one that's not noisy - the EVO pwm regulator which probably is the best is outrageous expensive - then add shipping, VAT and fees. The one I found only uses ceramic capacitors - no electrolytics or tantalum which is good for longivity - bought on AliExpress. The brand name PWM regulators I got from local stores were too noisy.

The arm2sid really is nice and very easy to choose suitable addressing , the problem with multiple sids and addresses is that most common addresses are de00 df00 and d4xx , prob best to stay away from the first 2 as they enter cartridge space and the sid is generally cloned every 20h from d400 so that tends to work well, remember you can choose 2 sids and fm with the arm2sid too

@@CaptainCommodore Thanks! Can it be d420 and d440 I' thinking of? If I remember correctly that requires different pins on motherboard to be soldered - if possible with a switch that would be nice - there's a few unused holes intended for the modulator where a switch could be mounted (have thought of making one an NTCS switch for kawari). On the Reloaded MK2 it's configured in a telnet prompt (it has USB). Not at all elegant. I have suggested several improvements to the author but nothing has happened for years. The switch between mono/stereo is also not optimal. A lot of simple improvements could be done that requires no further firmware space. There's a few hot key combos. But the most obvious switching you can't configure. If I remember correctly something with mono/stereo that doesn't play as nice as wanted although you could come a long way with just an external physical switch. My SixtyClone is the one that by far gets the most use anyway. Should I need to investigate something then I'll take out a 250425 machine I brought back from the dead (bad ram) but other than one ram and a few sockets it's otherwise totally stock.
I doubt I'll use the FM option on arm2sid. But stereo would be so nice. As said I got the regular armsid in it right now and it's very nice.

@HifiCentret not sure about the 440, but there are accepted addressvthat various programs use, I'd you was to use a non standard address you may struggle to play back to it

@@CaptainCommodore Have been looking a bit on armsid's and reloaded's user manual. Seems like D420 and D500 should cover most stereo sid tunes - unsure if I've seen other in HVSC. Although the Reloaded MK2 can be configured to DE00 as well. I can't remember if I've seen some sids using that address. Seems like armsid is the way to go. It even automatically switches to mono when no sound on 2nd sid for 15 seconds. So perhaps even no need for a physical switch in the cabling to allow for quick mono/stereo switching. If only they had an option with both an extra socket and long wires (don't cost much). Sure it starts out in my clone but there's also SidKick64 and uSID64 - should they turn out supperior the armsid can go into Reloaded - with a 3.3kOhm (for a start, experiment to see if higher values deliver results as well) between I think it's pin 25 and 26 on SID so Reloaded think there's a real SID in there to avoid its annoying warning - don't want to buy the version with resistor in place as I want to keep things generic and easily revertable.

@HifiCentret I did a video on sidkick, it's nice, but more expensive , sound wise, the armsids are close enough that you would need a test to determine any difference, certainly my ears cant

Interesting build love it. That armsid sounds cool 😊

The armsid and arm2sid are superb sid replacements, easily up there as one of if not the best sid replacements

The arms sid my my option is 99% to the real sid .. and I'm sid fussy lol 😆
