Making video games can be really tough. But thanks to cool game engines like Scratch, it's incredibly simple. It uses a high-level, visual scripting language to help teach kids and adults how to program. And honestly, it's perfect for people who are asking the question "How to learn how to program?" or "How to make video games". And after my last programming video using C++, let's see just how easy Scratch MIT is to use.
Today I'll be making a game like Pokémon, Digimon, or even Tamagotchi. A little creature raising game in Scratch. I've been a huge fan of the creature taming/digital pet genre for awhile now. Can I do it?

He uses AFFINITY DESIGNER for his ART.
Affinity Designer is such a great program
Which is a great program btw I recommend it to everyone
@@SkidesGames oh hey Skides 👋
Of course we subscribed
Goodgis is a Godot bro but not an Adobe homie
YES! I’m so glad people are giving more recognition to scratch- it’s not just a kids toy!
It's a lot of fun to use!
i really like it even though i'm also learning python/gdscript, it's just satisfying to get a complete(ish) game thats fairly polished without the errors and intimidating code
Its an amazing way to learn the basics of coding. Even if u wanna start out coding in other languages, scratch is so easy for beginners to understand how code functions.
@@sentientsodacan same, well expect the python part
I use it to make raytracers and other simulations
the art is super cute! but in scratch sometimes characters get cropped off slightly, so I would recommend an invisible square going around the characters :)
Thanks for the recommendation!
I just LOVE your art style! It's so round and soft, and gives me such a good vibe
I seriously appreciate it.
Right?? Like I know many have said this, but the quirky, nintendo dsi warioware vibes are real and immaculate
seriously, it looks so good!
Same ive tried to copy it but its so hard to make.
more scratch!! the water effect is so clean, and the art is amazing
Aww, thanks! :D
Got some ideas for this :)
- Clicking on the "monsters" will make them play a small animation. The animation will vary depending on the type
- Different monster, other than the regular chick that would do different stuff
- Maybe add a house item that lets you store some of your monsters, to decrease clutter. Every house will differ depend in how many monsters you can store
- Save and load system
You should make it so there are island upgrades, where it gets bigger, and so it doesnt get crowded every island upgrade your island can hold more little chickens. Also, the game looks very nice and cute. I love the art style
This is amazing! Something about your art style is just so entrancing.
Aww, thanks so much! :D
I love the cozy calm cute art style to this game! You have an amazing talent when it comes to artwork (and development)
Thank you so much for uploading content! I've been struggling to believe that making my own game would happen. Then you and your channel have me hope!! I really cant express how awesome it is. Thank you!! Please keep posting!!
That is adorable, I love that you took it up a notch and the game looks lovely!
Also I am glad you are not working only on dewdrop because burn out exist, its great having smaller projects
I try to take a week every month or so, to just work on a small project for YT. It really helps give me a mental break and come back fresh.
Yeah figured so, glad you do that man 😄
I love watching youtubers make games in scratch, the limitations of it make it look like such a fun challenge
PS - goodgis is confirmed bird person, 2 games with birb like beings in a row
Super pretty art style in your recent games. I’m enjoying the new style of videos a lot! Great video and game! :)
Aww, thanks dude!
I am so glad that you gave scratch another shot because last time you said it was very limiting, which it is but using turbowarp can make things so much better with a camera addon and stuff like that :D
This is so cute-looking. And again I love the art style! I love using something similar myself too
Aww, thanks!
I played all of you games in scratch 4 months ago, and it was fun especially Lil' Oasis
i agree - monster tamimng games are very fun and relaxing - keep up the good work
Wow. Awesome video. I loved the cozy monster game!!
It's crazy how clean art makes the game so fun and appealing!
Holy cow I just played this yesterday it’s very fun. Good job!
Keep making them, like a series!
Thanks so much!

Yay, I had just found this channel yesterday, binged hours and now a new video!!
Welcome! :D
@@Goodgis haha thanks man :D I’m looking forward to seeing how this game progresses
Love the cute island! For some reason it reminds me of an old game the BBC made called microlife.
We didn’t even watch the video yet
XD
I haven't seen it yet you're right
Liar
I think having challenges or minigames every now and again would be cool! Nintendogs had agility courses. It'd be cute and funny to see pojos trying to make it through an obstacle course with their lil legs 😁You could have races... maybe a mini version of soccer or volleyball!
Cute and Cool Game! Its a LOT Cozier then I Anticipated. Hope it gets updated! (But btw dont stress urself)
This is so inspiring! Great job Goodgis looking forward to more videos 💖
Hey Goodgis. Your art is always so appealing to look at! Would you be able to share some of your color palettes you use regularly?
I was browsing goodgis vids when this pops into my screen and gives me a heartattack
It’s more about the previous game but for displaying text like a score. I would use a text engine like Rex’s ppe+. It saves lots of time!
I really liked how you used Unity's particle system to make the final boss
This game is so cool! also your art is really good.
Thanks so much!

Good video btw
@Goodgis a cool mechanic for the game is you can buy more land similar to forager in which different islands have different biomes with types of creatures
Very impressive! Did know it was possible to achieve this much using Scratch
NO WAY I PLAY UR MOBILE GAME!
Would be cool if you could do some videos on how you create your art style it seems really simple as it's generally just basic shapes combined
It'd be interesting to see your methodology behind it all
I find making art assets one of the harder and time consuming parts of game dev
Cool that you're using affinity designer. Would love to see a video of how you approach game art in affinity designer.
hi I LOVE HOW YOU DESIGN YOUR CHARACTORS I ONLY FOUND YOUR CHANNEL FEW MINUTES AGO BUT I ALREADY LIKE YOUR CHANNEL its impressive how you make videos you should make more kinds of games in scratch I really like your game I was thinking what kind of project should I make it a computer science fair and I had no idea what to do your vids gave me ideas and I subscribed to your channel you take so much time making these videos I appreciate it and give me good luck on my computer science fair thanks to you I am less strewed and I am positive that I will make a everyone shocked with my skills (hope so ) well byee love your videos 👋
This game looks even better than the last one you made! I'll have to check out your account sometime :o
TIP: You should make the egg hatching to take longer, and you see a timer or smthn above the egg, so u know when its done.
When you click the egg its gonna hatch faster. Also you should make the coins spawn with a sound, and do the little guys on the top layer, and the coins at the back layer. So that when a little guy walks over an egg, the egg isn't on top of that little guy.
Also, you should make the hitboxes a llittle bit better and a bigger hitbox for the coins, so u dont have to exactly click on it.
Youre Art is so good! Its perfekt for Scratch!
Thanks! :D
When I saw this video and when you said you published it, I instantly played it. Very nice:)
This just inspired me to make a monster raiser myself!
This is such a good idea! Keep developing!
Will do!
I use scratch so often it's crazy snd I love watching other people make games
:D
Pojos are adorable, also the robot is
In the shore sprite, how about changing the "set y to" block to a "set y to (-100 + (10 * (sin of (timer * 200))))". This allows for it to be in the exact same place, even if turbo mode is turned on (shift-click green flag).
Yo Goodgis your art always looks so good
I also love YOUR videos nextProgram :)
Thats wild, the stock drone footage of the coastal cliff is of Lennox Head, NSW Australia. I spent years living there, talk about a location with a cozy vibe.
How did you know that?
@@Goodgis I have spent a bit of time flying a drone in that exact spot myself. 😎
Suggestions/improvements
1. make it so the shop is a button or show all items because I dunno how much money is which item until I save up for it
2. more animals/monsters
3. hatching animation and click to hatch
thats it for now :)
Its a great day when goodgis uploads 😊
This is one of the best games I've ever seen
Thank you Goodgis for inspiring me to start working with pixel art and godot!
That's awesome! Thanks for watching!
Super! I always use Scratch to draw, because I don't care too much abt it. Btw your art is amazing!
I was looking for the scratchrunning podcast but this is cool too
I didn't even watch this video yet but I already know it's gonna be awesome :D
Edit: Guess I was right! haha
Aww, thanks so much!
You have to show me how to make this! This is the best scratch game ever!!
You should add a feeding mechanic, to help your pojos grow faster, you should also add breeding, and be able to use gems to skip breeding time.
Oh wow!, another scratch game for us, thank you for making another one for us 😊
Now that you are getting interested in scratch, i now have an opportunity to link you my game, but then I heard you pronounce Pollo (Po-yo) as Pojo, maybe this isn't my chance...
Well, thanks for the support! :D
@@GoodgisI know it's too late, but I just realized that the pojohs are actually pronounced like that, sorry
I love your art! ❤
You Basically Made Raise A Floppa In Scratch And Thats Cool
I don't know what that is but it sound amazing!
Duckys cozy kitchen was good but this is GREAT
I've always been so awed by the effect you show in the beginning! How do you do a 3d screen record?
I'm recreating this in scratch with more features like buying another island or expanding it, trading resources for rare eggs, etc.
FINALLY, A BRILLIANT SCRATCHER!!!!!!
This is a pretty small change, but you should add a settings menu with an option that adds small shapes to things that are differentiated by color, for anyone who can't see color as well
Alternatively you could also just change the shape a bit for rarer pojo's but eh
0:12 He Realised That Flies Are Not Cozy Very Quickly
I love all three of your games I'm following you on scratch
plz add more to this game!!!!
More scratch, love monster raiser type games.
:D
@@Goodgis :>
the art style is 👌👌👌 really nice
I LOVE THIS YOU SHOULD MAKEE MORE SCRATCH STUFF!!
Maybe I will. ;)
I played the ducky game! It was actually really cute and surprisingly fun! This one is also super cute! Love it, they’re both super fun! Love it.
Maybe you could have different islands with special pogos?
Like a swimming pogo or a lavaproof pogo? And maybe different grades of pogos? Maybe if you leveled up a normal pogo you could fly them two the said special islands?
The artwork is soooo gooood 🥲
Thanks so much! It's taken me a couple of years to figure out my style.
@@Goodgis Yeeeah, I've been trying to learn pixel art for ~7 years and I'm still so bad :`)
I want to make a game like undertale. You know, I dont know anything about coding, and the only things I know about undertale is that Sans is in it and Papyrus is in it. Yup, that's all i have to say, and I've wanted to say it for a long time. Love your content btw love your work, and I'll probably start looking through many different tutorials and try looking into the sponsor ;) so i can start learning coding and game development.
Idea: try adding and island expansion which means to add rebirth bc when u rebirth the island expands
2:35 wtf goodgis hablando español con la mejor serie desde 1800 xd
Si, gracias
@@Goodgis ok, that was surprising, also pollo
Cool video and project
You should do upgrades for the actual island like to make it bigger or if you want to take it farther you can make it where you can buy islands an different lands and if you make it where you can make the island bigger you can buy houses or different buildings to put on your island
I'll try to make a remix with better ai, predators that may come to your island, and most importantly a naming system and the ability to give the different clones their own stats. I may not have artistic talent like you, but at least i've spent way too much time in scratch and teach it. I can only dream of people remixing the projects I've wanted people to remix.
You should make it so you can upgrade the island so it can get bigger as well
My favourite game dev youtuber.
Scratch is pretty great! Awesome video as always, Goodgis!
You should have used perlin noise for the puju movement because they feel like robot.
Oh a trackball owner. Ok now I know you are the real deal. Anyone grinding game dev so hard that they get RSI and carpal is my soul animal. Keep informing people about the clearly superior rodent technology.
:)
We need a part 2
Bro's amazing at drawing!!! ❤❤
BRO UR SO GOOD AT SCRATCH
Don't mind if my spelling is wrong**
Add an cozy underwater area with aquatic pojos!
ive never even heard of scratch until this video.
A cool idea would be to give them walk cycles, it would be so cool for them to turn and walk.
I knew my following you om scratch would pay off :)
Take that back! Flies aren't disgusting!
Reccomendation: Add Monsters You Can Fight In Turn-Based Battle
Ima make a game like this bro its so cool
congrats on trending also do u use bitmap or vector
Looks like vector
I love how you can just put the pogos in your pockets and get money.
#2 on trending xD btw, the arts so cute!
I am making a scratch game right now where you fight other cubes
