This places the MH Team on a much higher pedestal than most game developers. (only those behind Monster Hunter, tho, not the entirety of Capcom, which most of the time sucks).

Yeah, its improved *a lot*. However there's still one mayor flaw: picking up shienies for the GL materials. It's an absolutely horrendous design flaw, because it distracts you from the fight, makes you completely vulnerable, and makes you waste time juggling between pod ammo and shinies, and they are sometimes missed and forgoten. I cannot tell you how much this ends up frustrating me, for the reasons above. Solution? Auto Pickup or Endscreen rewards.

Its still incredibly grindy to level up areas, even if youre just going after elder dragons. Going from lv5 to 7 gets tedious and stale after youve hunted dozens of tempered elder dragons only to have your progress bar go up about 1/14 of the way each time. I wish they would just completely re-adjust the progress acquisition to be much more lenient. Or be able to allocate progress from other areas to ones we need.
it took me 1 hour to go from 5 to 7. Maybe you are hunting non area specific monsters? I just gather tracks until 5.5 or 6 then hunt 2 tempered or so and it's level 7 at that point

There’s a large variety but I do understand if it’s not your cup of tea!
As a solo player, the only fun I remember having in the Grinding Lands was Zinogre being invisible in his introduction cutscene. I just hope one day they let you increase the level of the region if you previously lowered it already. Though that's probably a change that'll only ever happen when the game is at the end of its lifespan, same with event quests not being time-gated.
This explains a lot, I heard horror stories about the Guiding Lands back in the day, yet I never had much of an issue with it now that I've started mucking around with it recently. It's really zen, just mucking about and snapping up crystals and bones (assumed I can SEE them) and slapping monsters around.
That would be absolutely amazing. Basically a game mode that plays like Monster Hunter but with light dungeon crawl/exploration mechanics? Opening up loot chests after tackling a massive beast with a rag tag group of hunters?! Great idea!!
@@anubrakahn2970 yeah, same -_- maybe go back to school then. I was suggesting playing monster hunter stories, that has a dungeon crawler mechanic somewhere in the story.

Most of the people I've seen skipping the guiding lands did so because there's just so little new content, and it gated the few new hunts behind so many levels worth of grinding content you've already done. I went through the grind - but most of those people I saw who bailed after shara did so at the moment they learned they had to fight old monsters a whole bunch of times to access each step of the new content. I can see good things coming out of this if they wanted to throw MMO/open world style ideas at the wall to see what sticks, but as far as this game goes, the guiding lands still aren't good, to my mind: They're a workable system, just one that lacks content.
I played 3U and 4U a ton before my 3DS broke. Loved World for the main and Iceborne quests, but then I reached Guiding Lands... I'm more of a casual player with a lot of time on my hands, so each hunt is mentally draining. But the quest/investigation type hunts mitigates that immensely. GL is just constant hunts, which drains me quickly. And because of that, I don't have endgame stuff like augs and final weapon upgrades.
You hit the nail on the head. This is the exact reason why I quit after Shara, and still find no reason to come back despite the improvements. My problem is with the Guiding Lands as a whole. I would have much preferred to just get a new quest list and fight exactly what I wanted when I wanted, not have to go through all these hoops. So I went back to MHGU and am having the time of my life
Bey I stopped going there because of all the hassles but now you make me want to go back there and enjoy it! I learnt so much in this one video things I didn't even know existed! I must watch it again!
Their needs to be an inclusion of the Frostfang Barioth into the tundra region of the Guiding Lands. Also, there needs to be a vast new section added to the Guiding Lands added where I can fight huge monsters like Shara Ishvalda and Xenojiva. That way I can farm parts from them without worrying about carting.
Man I can’t believe I haven’t subscribed to you earlier. Your videos are so informative that I can listen to you like a podcast or something while working from home.
If you're solo hunting in the guiding land, take your palico and give them the bug trapper gadget. Everytime they trap a monster it helps level up your region
I love the guiding lands. I hope they expand on it more. Just so much fun wandering around monster infested lands with friends. It feels like I'm actually hunting as opposed to doing missions.
I like the fact that now with the increased shiny drops, it's somewhat more realistic in the fact that you don't have to kill multiple monsters of the same species to get a full set of gear. Like in the manga
You just convinced me into returning to the Guiding Lands with this video. I don't have much time for playing and I was stuck with the early game's guiding lands concept.
Gaijin, this is really cool. I am so glad to see they fixed the end game. That was what got me to stop playing Iceborne. However, I've already moved on from World/Iceborne. I just want another handheld MH. Still, I applaud their dedication.
I was with you, on launch, trying to get a region to 7 was such a grindfest. That first tweak was such a major one, and the subsequent ones have been nice quality of life changes that I hadn't even thought of. Hats off to Capcom.
Welcome back Gaijin! I missed your content. The old monster hunter music is so you, hearing it reminds me of watching your videos on guard pointing in MH4U.
I tried to fight him with Sticky HBG. With the slow sheathing speed I am a dead hunter to that angry boi 😂 Due to no health regen I can't heal without sheathing my weapon. Maybe I should stop to cheese the game and use GS instead. 😁
The thing I always wanted from the Guiding Lands that I never got before running out of content and moving on to other games after several hundred hours and its still not in the game today is that if I lower a Region's level, I want to be able to add that level to another Region, even if the option is only available after maxing out all of them at least once with regular hunts. Eliminating the overall Region cap would also do wonders to make it even better.
The only thing I like about Guiding Lands is the Molies, because their stories is really interesting. For example, regular Moly ecologic story said that they shape *the* Guiding Lands with team work.
Bro... I didn’t know the Moly even existed. I saw a bristly crake for the first time fishing in the rotten vale the other day, it amazes me that after two years I’m still discovering new endemic life. As an avid critter/bug fan, I love exploring and capturing rare endemic life while I gather mandragoras and whatnot. It’s such a relaxing and peaceful change of pace from the usual “Dear god there’s a Savage Deviljho hot on my trail”!
"for materials to custom buff your weapons and gear" oooor you get materials for all the layered armor in the game. Fashion Hunter endgame is best endgame! Still waiting for the MR layered, no idea why it comes so late, but at least I can already grind the materials beforehand.
I think the reason about the layered being late is pretty obvious is a easy way to release "content" and keep people coming back They know we value the visuals of our characters I feel like MR Kulve Taroth is the sole reason they released unique design for layered weapons people would complain alot cause Kjarr weapons is just iron weapons with a coat of gold and monster parts attached
I know you can't do this for every video but I like this format of the video. So informative and fun to watch for some reasons. I didn't know you can craft the banishing ball. Every time I try to hunt for something Banbaro just rekt up my hunt.

I've loved the Guiding Lands since the start, though I certainly have appreciated the changes as well. One final change I'd like to see is the ability to raise your region levels to anything you had previously unlocked. I would even have been OK with them not buffing region XP gains if they had done that. Of course, I loved expeditions in base game when they were mostly a waste of time.
All they have to do is remove the level caps on how many I can have maxed and I'm in. It'll be bonus points if they do that AND allow us to tweak them at will so long as we've achieved that level in a specific region prior.
you can, it has been there from the start... but it's a big grind to do: kill 7k tier 3 tempered monsters in the guiding lands, and your level cap will be high enough to max out all lands.
@@alyserse2876You're misunderstanding. I want to have ALL regions level 7 AT THE SAME TIME with no arbitrary cap. As it is, the cap is just there to stifle players from progressing "too fast" - that or just bad design in general.

it's the best end game i've ever played. i normally ignore end games because they're painfully boring and they feel pointless (hello MHW), but i can just roll around in the Guiding Lands because of the number of different resources and mechanics involved
I used to hate grinding land because certain monster only approach on certain lvl cap. Basicly another game as Dlc where you take your save with you. I've put in way too much time into Iceborne. (maybe like 700h over my ps4 and pc) So id say yes.
Its a huge chank of content (think its comparable to main game in size . maybe 20% less) . Also , a lot of ways to get rare HR decos(so no much point to gring HR tempered instead) . If you finished base game its worth it
Oh, it's well worth it, in my opinion. If you want to double your playtime with a greater variety of monsters, it's a must-buy. If you want a challenge, the latest monsters also ask a lot from the player(s). Layered weapons and armor make it awesome for fashion hunting as well.
Thanks for the video and I also took a long break after reaching grinding lands after release. Having so much fun now and soon I'm MR 100 and the real endgame begins:)
The worst aspect of the GL is that you have no way to access your harvest box while you are in there. So you can come back to town and find all the fertilizers to be empty. Why not have an NPC in the GL camp?
@@themightypicklerex7688 you cant buy the plants or bugs. Who goes out of their way in a hunt to pick up items? The farm gives you so much. Play how you want
As far as i know you can have three bioms at lv7. So there is a fixed amount of "Points" you can earn for the bioms in total. So i think with Velkana you would not hit lv7 with all bioms, maybe lv5 all bioms in total. But i aint gonna try it out xD.
Zerx It was found a while back that hunting tempered mons in the Guiding Lands gives you a very small amount of extra points you can use to upgrade regions, so with enough tempered hunts (T3s and elders are most efficient) you could get all region levels maxed out legitimately, if you killed literally thousands of them

The endless, frustrating and inefficient grinding left me with intense MH burnout. I guess I'll install the game again and give 'em a look - thanks for the heads up!
Even though I'm a huge fan of monster hunter, I find that burning yourself out is the biggest thing that can making a negative experience to monster hunter. If you're having difficulty with a monster or just been playing for say 50+ hours a week, take a break, I can't stress that enough, even with another game for a week or just not touching the game for a few days. It really helps with not being mad/annoyed with the game
I got a huge burnout about 2 months ago, not because of GL, but because I went Gold Crown Hunting... Even going on the crown events, it was so grindy I just felt tired and took a break to play other games. With the Alatreon update though, I came back and I gotta say, I feel eager again to play MHW! Sometimes a break can help you realize why you actually enjoyed something in the first place.
Im in the same boat as you chief, I’m just glad I found out about this cause I’m trying to level up Tundra region but keep getting forest region monsters
Now remove the mining and bone gathering requirements for augments and custom augments and it would be near perfect. I play 11 weapons and augmenting is soooo Grindy it's unreal. I mean running around for 5 hours and collecting guiding crystals and bones is tedious and stupid
@@moldyshishkabob Yeah, I've started to do that but it's annoying to keep track of what I augmented and upgraded and I'll sometimes go in a fight with a pre loadout and realize I've removed the augments mid fight 😑
In all honesty I would just use a save editor to get all the materials you need to upgrade and augment. Will vets be disappointed you didn't work for the upgrade? Sure but let them, this grind is absolute sadistic nonsense akin to some of the worst grinds in video games. It is 100% a bs experience. Just use a save editor and the wiki to give yourself all the guiding lands materials, I respect the people who did grind for their weapons but I feel like I am playing into a devs fetish when I do it and bottom line is it's not fun. However I would still grind to level 7 in each land.
As someone who never even bought iceborne because I was hearing such mixed things about it, this gives me a lot more confidence that it will be worth picking up even if it costs me more than the base game did
The ultimate improvement was the community's effort to figure out exactly how the leveling system works and how to most efficiently level your regions. Ever since I learned how it works, I feel a lot better about going to the Guiding Lands.
I'll admit I've avoided the guiding lands for all the BS it started out with, but I'm glad I saw your video because you make the guiding lands sound fun again
Me too, for me is a "Hunter Dream", you can hunt monster after monster test build after builds get rewards like decorarions, materials, rank, minerals etc... it' s a true playground and perfect end game the only limitation is my fatigued fings and fisiologic needs.
I'll be honest. I've been playing Iceborne on and off since it dropped on PC, but I've been avoiding the guiding lands since then. I had a really hard time with the levels system in the beginning (completely my fault, I'm kind of stupid) and it stressed me out to the point where I stopped trying to bother with it and just went back to normal hunting. I haven't tried going back yet with the new changes, but honestly this video reminded me that I need to, so I'll def another chance soon. Especially since it looks so easy to level the areas now, i like that
I'm really glad to see I'm not the only one that disliked the Guiding Lands at first, and even more glad that I am not the only who came back to the game and is having tons of fun with it!

Solution? Auto Pickup or Endscreen rewards.
and that's the essence... manage your timing well and you will be rewarded..
Or have the option to set our Palico to a "gather" mode instead of combat assistant.

Lmao this sounds like an ad for the guiding lands 😂
As a solo player, the only fun I remember having in the Grinding Lands was Zinogre being invisible in his introduction cutscene.
I just hope one day they let you increase the level of the region if you previously lowered it already. Though that's probably a change that'll only ever happen when the game is at the end of its lifespan, same with event quests not being time-gated.
I wish they would've made it so that your level 7 regions dont get touched when you are leveling a 3rd region to 7.
You are right, it is a nuisance
This explains a lot, I heard horror stories about the Guiding Lands back in the day, yet I never had much of an issue with it now that I've started mucking around with it recently. It's really zen, just mucking about and snapping up crystals and bones (assumed I can SEE them) and slapping monsters around.
My highest hope for MH6 still have guiding lands, and ACTUALLY add the Tower integrated in like a dungeon. I want to explore the lost civilization
That would be absolutely amazing. Basically a game mode that plays like Monster Hunter but with light dungeon crawl/exploration mechanics? Opening up loot chests after tackling a massive beast with a rag tag group of hunters?! Great idea!!

I can see good things coming out of this if they wanted to throw MMO/open world style ideas at the wall to see what sticks, but as far as this game goes, the guiding lands still aren't good, to my mind:
They're a workable system, just one that lacks content.
So I went back to MHGU and am having the time of my life
Valid
Agree, this game really has a content drought problem. That's why I keep going back to MHGU, so much to do.
from my point of view, Guiding lands are basically a more modern and improved version of expeditions in 4U and i like that
Bey I stopped going there because of all the hassles but now you make me want to go back there and enjoy it!
That way I can farm parts from them without worrying about carting.
it they added Frostfang during the Tundra update, I guarantee that they would have done that but by then they decided it was too late to add him

I’ve been away for a while myself & now I have the urge to hoont again. These changes are very much welcomed 🙌

If a couple regions didnt go down as one goes up then I'd have all em at 7
Zerx It was found a while back that hunting tempered mons in the Guiding Lands gives you a very small amount of extra points you can use to upgrade regions, so with enough tempered hunts (T3s and elders are most efficient) you could get all region levels maxed out legitimately, if you killed literally thousands of them
And now we're gonna get master rank layered armour which is gonna add even more use to the guiding lands
