Excellent video. You're making good progress with it.
Incidentally, whilst you're looking at the tantalum capacitors on the servo circuit, change the light blue sanyo electrolytic capacitors too, they almost always go bad. In the manual it says that the caps are tantalums, but on the AS-3(?) board they're clearly electrolytic capacitors. I changed three of them for the same value tantalum caps and I had a stable picture back with lovely colour. I've just got to sort a sound wobble problem with it now, so I'll investigate more on the audio circuit when I have some free time. Good luck James!

Thanks for watching 🙂, hopefully we are making progress. I rather like the C7, despite it not being the best or most reliable deck ever produced, it does possess a certain charm.

Hi and thank you for your video, I need all the help I can get? Ive just replaced the belts on my machine and all seemed to be working mechanically expert the rewind which dosnt function. Now this maybe because the tyres are worn, i dont know without seeing new (and where you can get them). my question is, I cannot see which make contact and which dont as I cannot (like you) get the machine to load as you do without a tape inserted .you appear to push something down and the load mechanism goes in and out (your video 6.3- mind), for me I cannot get this to happen? I recognise what your pushing down but it dosnt happen for me (I guess simulating the tape insertion). I'm not a pro at this job by any means but as an engineer if I can see how something works I can generally get to the bottom of it.could you tell me what im not doing to make the loading work with out the tape inserted. Many thanks, gettingfrustrated now.

I have a c7 e like yours. It powers up and can eject the cassette deck. Nothing happens when the cassette is lowered into the deck. The play ff and rew isn't doing anything neither. Nothing is seized. Any suggestions?

I disagree about these machines being over engineered. If it weren't designed like they, where they wouldn't be restorable. You can restore those "made in China" later model VCRs that were made later. All the circuits are integrated in a single IC that isn't replicable.

Something being over-engineered is not a bad thing, it's a very positive attribute rarely found in mass market products. I probably didn't come across right.
